⚡✍️ The Tyranny of Distance, how remoteness affect warfare.

Geography cannot be changed. No matter the level of training or defense spending, the distance will remain the same.
The further the theatre of operation is, the more ressources it will take to deploy and maintain the same level of combat power.
"The state’s military and political power diminishes as we move a unit distance away from its home base"

One could argue that aviation has mitigated the tyranny of distance but the pace of warfare has also accelerated. Furthermore, the final rate of transport (what actually matters) of an aircraft will be impacted by the distance. If we consider the Pacific theatre, an airlifter is unlikely to cross the ocean more than once a day. However this could be done by an airlifter between mainland China and Taiwan. The same aircraft would have twice as much operational impact.

The tyranny of distance also strikes air power. A fighter jet will be able to conduct CAP (Combat Air Patrol) for a longer time if its base is nearby. To say it in another way: less aircraft located nearby are needed to complete the same mission (air patrols) than aircrafts based further.

Another impact of the tyranny of distance is the warning time, whether it is for missiles, aircrafts or an amphibious landing force, as the distance between their launch point and target increases, the lilelihood of detection and engagement only increases.

⚡️🇮🇱🇵🇸 Axios: Israel will allow the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) to resume aid deliveries to Gaza after a two-month freeze. GHF plans to distribute over 300 million meals in 90 days through new Secure Distribution Sites, with transitional aid using existing channels.

The group has asked Israel to help identify aid centre locations in northern Gaza within 30 days.

This comes as Israel plans a major military operation relocating 2 million Palestinians to a “humanitarian area” in southern Gaza. The UN has criticised the GHF plan as serving Israel’s military agenda.

⚡🇺🇸 The US Defense Intelligence Agency released an assessment of the threat facing the American soil which the "Golden Dome" is planned to counter.
They include: intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), submarine launched ballistic missiles (SLBM), hypersonic missiles, cruise missiles and fractional orbital bombardment system (FOBS) (basically an ICBM in low-orbit allowing infinite ranges)

The pertinence of the "Golden Dome" project has reason to be questioned.
The United States already relies on nuclear deterrence to protect itself against ICBMs and SLBMs as only nuclear ballistic missiles can reach the continental United States.
Hypersonic weapons and regular cruise missiles do not have the range necessary, they could be launched by bombers or naval assets but today the competitors powerful enough to project such power reliably and without unacceptable risk do not exist.
FOBS is not a technology operational in any country yet.

But threats are evolving and the balance of power may change in the coming decades. The best defences to the United States will remain a nuclear forces and its unmatched strategic depth.

⚡️🇷🇺🇺🇦🇹🇷 Talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations are expected to take place just after lunch time in Istanbul.

Russian President Putin approved Russia’s delegation for talks with Ukraine, led by Vladimir Medinsky. Members include Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, military intelligence chief Igor Kostyukov, and Deputy Defence Minister Alexander Fomin.

Ukrainian officials told the Wall Street Journal that the meeting will only address a proposed 30-day ceasefire.

A Ukrainian official told AFP that President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to meet President Erdoğan in Ankara before deciding on the “next steps” in negotiations with Russia.

British security advisor, Jonathan Powell, will also be in Türkiye to advise President Zelensky.

⚡️🇮🇱🇵🇸 Israeli forces stormed the West Bank town of Tamoun, and engaged in armed clashes with Palestinian militants from the Tamoun company of the Tubas Battalion (Saraya al-Quds Brigades) at two points. At least three Palestinian militants were killed, and one reportedly arrested during the clashes. The Saraya al-Quds brigades released a statement, claiming that multiple Israeli soldiers were wounded.

During the clashes, multiple "Energa" shoulder-launched projectiles were fired at a house in which militants had barricaded themselves in. Additionally, Israeli forces rigged a coffee shop with explosives and detonated it. Israeli media claims that this shop had been transformed into an IED production and storage facility.
