🇭🇷 Wildfires are ripping through Croatia's Dalmatian coast, described as one of the worst outbreaks in the country's history.

A blaze near Lokva Rogoznica spread overnight toward the tourist town of Omis, driven by hurricane-force winds, forcing 1,000 to 2,000 residents and tourists to evacuate, many of them foreign nationals including around 300 Czech tourists. At least one person has died and one remains missing. Fourteen people were hospitalized, ten in intensive care.

Nearly 300 firefighters battled the blaze overnight, with reinforcements sent from Zagreb and other counties.

Homes, cafes, cars and boats were destroyed as flames reached the Borak area above the Omis town center. Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said the government is coordinating response in real time in a region hosting 12,000 tourists on top of its 15,000 residents.

The fire comes amid a broader wildfire wave hitting Croatia during a prolonged heatwave, with similar blazes forcing evacuations across Germany, France, the UK, and Greece.

🇨🇺 Cuba President Diaz-Canel, on Fidel Castro's 100th birthday:

"To be a Fidelista is not to profess blind faith; it is an honorable attitude toward life. To be a Fidelista means defining ourselves as permanent anti-imperialist fighters, against every injustice in the world. And celebrating the eternity of the Commander in Chief means, above all, defeating once again those who tried to assassinate him more than 600 times and only succeeded in magnifying his stature. The soldier of ideas is back in a way that must terrify his adversaries.

The resurgence of fascism across the world is imposing on the Global South an ideological war that, in its cultural and media dimensions, insists on shielding capitalism as our hegemonic destiny, subordinate to imperialist logic, seeking to erase historical memory, to recolonize us culturally and break our identities. At the same time, and toward those same ends, the media war unfolds, with its campaigns of disinformation and poison, directed against the most elementary human values as if they were obsolete, to justify wars and acts of aggression as incompatible with international law as the genocide in Gaza, the aggression against Iran, or the energy blockade on Cuba.

Fidel lives in every Cuban medical professional who saves a life, most of the time without even having the indispensable medicine. In the educators who abandon the classroom neither in the city nor in the mountains. When future historians look back through time searching for Fidel Castro Ruz, the Commander in Chief, they will no longer see just one man: they will see his people, and the millions who, inspired by his exemplary life, earned their place in history by standing up, unbowed, to the most powerful and criminal empire, and prevailing.

Iran is reshaping its military leadership, with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei appointing six senior military and security figures as Tehran shifts towards a more “offensive doctrine”. IRGC General Mohammad Reza Naqdi said the new approach would move Iran away from a primarily defensive posture towards faster decision-making, unified command and direct action against perceived enemies.

Among the key appointments, Ahmad Vahidi was named commander-in-chief of the IRGC and ordered to carry out “powerful offensive operations against the enemy”. Mohsen Rezaei, a former IRGC commander who supports Iran’s position over the Strait of Hormuz, was appointed head of the Supreme National Security Council, potentially strengthening the influence of hardliners who favour continuing confrontation with the US.

The reshuffle also strengthens Iran’s internal security apparatus, with Hossein Taeb returning as head of the Basij paramilitary force. The appointments come as Iran faces continued military pressure, economic difficulties and internal dissent, while the new leadership is described as taking a harder line on the war, the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear programme.

⚫️🇪🇸 ISIS intensifies Spanish-language jihadist propaganda and threats against Spain

ISIS increased its Spanish-language propaganda channels in 2025, with at least eight distinct channels used by the network's various franchises to spread threats of attacks against Spain, per the Terrorism Victims Memorial Center's 2025 report. Al-Qaeda, though weakened, still runs two propaganda channels targeting Spain as well.

A new production outlet, Ansar Al-Ándalus, emerged in 2025 and put out around 30 Spanish-language messages in its first six months before going quiet in June for unknown reasons. Longer-running channels — Mathani, La Voz de Al-Ándalus, Al Khayr Media, Halummu Media, Al Faruk, Al Fursan, and Tech Haven — continue to carry the bulk of the propaganda and threats, invoking the 2017 Barcelona/Cambrils attacks and demanding Spain withdraw from the anti-ISIS coalition. Recurring messaging frames "Al-Andalus" as historically Muslim land to be "recovered by force."

🐻 Isn't it interesting how rarely ISIS surfaces these days — and when it does, it's threatening Spain, one of the few European countries not falling in line on the Israeli genocide in Gaza and the war on Iran.

And yet... somehow, they never seem to threaten Israel. Weird right?
