Which offers a better PS1 experience: MiSTer FPGA or PopStarter (via OPL on PS2)?
I recently bought a MiSTer FPGA, but before that, I only had a PS2 and used PopStarter through OPL to play PS1 games.
In your opinion, which setup provides the best overall experience—not just in terms of emulation accuracy, but also the feel of playing on a PlayStation hardware, with oficial controllers.
I'm curious how both compare when it comes to performance, compatibility, and that authentic "console" experience.

PlayStation Link Cable issue
Wondering if anyone has seen this before; I have 2 fat PS1s (SCPH-7502 + SCPH-1002) that I've linked together; same game and the cable I've run through with a multimeter and seems ok. What I've noticed is that the link options appear (for example on C&C RA) and you can do the initial setup stuff but once you play it says disconnected, similar issue on Wipeout. I'm wondering if its the timing issue between the console types?

What makes a good modern take on a PS1-era game? (Inspired by Vagrant Story)
Hey everyone,
I’ve been revisiting Vagrant Story lately and thinking a lot about what made PS1-era games so special — especially those with bold, experimental mechanics. The combat system in Vagrant Story, for example, was such a unique blend of real-time positioning, tactical targeting, and timing-based chaining. Flawed, maybe, but unforgettable.
I’m currently working on a game that takes inspiration from that era — not just in visuals, but in spirit. I don’t want to just mimic retro aesthetics for nostalgia’s sake, but to capture what made those games feel distinct: the ambition, the weirdness, the risks.
So I’d love to hear from you:
• What PS1-era mechanics or design ideas would you love to see reimagined today?
• What’s the difference between a game that feels like a PS1 classic and one that just looks like one?
• In the case of something like Vagrant Story, what would you keep, change, or modernize in a spiritual successor?

Has anyone who has played GTA London find that the police barely exist in the game?
I found across 25 missions so far, no matter what wanted level I got, police just didn't spawn. It made the game really easy since a lot of the missions, the challenge is that you get a wanted level, but nothing happens, and you just get to play out the mission with no consequence. Did anyone else find this to be the case? I wasn't sure if this was a problem with the PS1 port from the PC version or something. Even though the police in the original GTA base game was pretty good I thought.

Ps1 5501 being glitchy?
I have a PS1 that has been in the family since 1997, and was my first ever modchip installation. It works but it stutters more than usual for a PS1 and occasionally it will stop playing bg music. Also in Vib Ribbon, it will end songs 10-30 seconds before it should end. I have already installed a new disc drive which helped but didn’t fix my issue. What is the solution? I know it would be better to buy a new PS1 but this one is special to me so I want to make sure it is in the best condition it can be in.
