What moment/sound/song defines psx for you?
What moment just takes you back and makes you think hell yeah this is what psx is all about?
For me is the daunting intro theme of MGS as snake is swimming up.

Multitap weirdness
I wanted to break out the PS1 multitap to play some Rakugaki Showtime the other day. And unfortunately I had some strange trouble with it.
I have four consoles I tried it out with:
\- A region-free slim American PS2
\- A fat Japanese PS2
\- A PSOne
\- A fat American PS2
I wanted to use the region-free or Japanese PS2 since Rakugaki is a Japanese game. At first I was trying to use PS2 controllers with it, then I read online that you can't do that and I figured that was the issue. But then, it wouldn't work even with regular PS1 controllers.
It doesn't seem to quite insert all the way into the slim PS2, though I am able to get the "analog" light to go on which implies that it was connected. Regardless, I'm not too surprised this didn't work. But it didn't work on the fat Japanese PS2 either.
I then tried it with my PSOne. And hey, what do you know, it worked! I wondered if maybe it was a weird thing where it's just not working with PS2s for some reason.
But then, I broke out one of my fat American PS2s, and...it worked on that too! But then I tried the other consoles again and it didn't work on the two it wasn't working on before.
The weird part is that many years ago I definitely did play Rakugaki Showtime with the multitap and I'm positive that I used the very same fat Japanese PS2 back then. Both the console and the multitap are clearly still functional, so I have no clue what could have changed.
Does anyone have any idea or insight as to why my multitap is selective about individual consoles like this? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Trying to find an old RPG I rented as a kid
Hello, I'm searching for a game I played as a kid and can't remember the name of. It was a monster-raising focused game, I remember the MC was in a blue armor set and the monster was a pink bunny/hippo thing. I also seem to remember the game being fairly realistic and even kinda dark in tone at times, with the monsters being actually wounded/injured. If anyone can help me track this down, I'd appreciate it. It's also possible I've misremembered some details, so anything close would probably be more accurate than not.
Edit: Guardian's Crusade! Thanks guys!

Space Pirate Game
I need help figuring out a PS2 game I played when I was younger. I remember the play style being similar to Kingdom Hearts and you were able to synthesize/ combine weapons to make them stronger. I also remember having fight scenes in space as well.

Video issues with my psone scph-101
I bought a 1st party s-video cable for my ps1 (grey cable). Image has distorted colors and sometimes would show a still roll through the tv. After using the same cable on my ps2 slim, the image is perfect without issues. I thought the problem was my ps1 until I attached the lcd screen and the image was perfect. On top of that, I plugged the s-video to the lcd screen and then the image was perfect. So I'm completely lost as to why the cable won't work on the console alone. The power adapter is also 1st party.

Which games do you think handled tutorials the best this console gen?
With this being the transition from 2D to 3D period for consoles, and their more complex world interactions, more explanations of controls and mechanics were often needed. Some games handled this better than others.
Unrelated to this transition but relevant to tutorials this gen, there was also a slow transition from expecting players to read the manual, to having the info in-game. I remember FF8's text dumps explaining junctioning and other things as a bad example here (FF7 also did this for fort crondor IIRC).
Personally, I'm a fan of how for example Super Metroid (1994) teaches players by forcing them to use new tools as soon as they get them, without telling them with text or via a dialogue scene outside of gameplay (although there is some text when you pick up a new tool). I also like spoken tutorial messages while you're playing, or context sensitive tutorial pop-ups that don't pause gameplay - Tomb Raider 1-3 are good examples of the former, and Soul Reaver and FF7 do the latter. IIRC, Banjo-Kazooie also did the latter for the most part.
Finally, I like how Oddworld used tutorial videos showing how to deal with various situations in the options menu.
Please describe or link to where the game(s) you mention does its tutorializing, if you can.
