The idea that skinny people have fast metabolisms is a myth. Metabolism depends largely on muscle mass—more muscle means higher energy use. Skinny people usually have less muscle, so their metabolism is often slower. Weight and appearance don’t reliably show metabolism speed.

The internet is estimated to weigh about 50 grams, equivalent to a strawberry, based on the weight of the electrons used in electricity for data transfer. This does not account for the much larger physical weight of servers, cables, and data centers that support its infrastructure.

“Knock on wood” is a saying people use to avoid bad luck. It may come from old beliefs that trees have spirits or from the Christian cross made of wood. Different countries have their own ways to “knock on wood” to stay lucky. For example, in Italy, people “touch iron,” and in Turkey, they knock twice and pull their earlobe. 🌳🙏🍀

“If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”
But life did not simply give us lemons. The modern lemon arose through hybridization between citrus fruits, and humans later cultivated and spread it.
Before life could give us lemons, humans first had to create the lemon.
Less catchy, but true.

Octo means "eight". Thats why we say Octopus 🐙 for example, it has eight arms.
Yet the month of October is the tenth in our calendar.
This is because there used to be a different Roman calendar with only ten months.
Later it all changed and months were moved up, but we kept names like September (7), October (8), November (9) and December (10).

When Breaking Bad premiered on 20 January 2008, it was watched by fewer than 1.5 million viewers in the United States. As the series became available on Netflix between seasons, its audience grew dramatically through word of mouth. By the time the final episode aired on 29 September 2013, it attracted over 10 million U.S. viewers, making it one of television's most successful examples of a show that found a much larger audience through streaming.

Corn flakes were created as an easy-to-digest, pre-prepared and healthy breakfast food, especially for patients at the Kellogg Sanitarium in Michigan.
J.H. Kellogg promoted a plain, bland diet to discourage masturbation, but corn flakes were never advertised as an “anti-masturbatory morning meal.”

Project SUNSHINE studied radioactive fallout from nuclear weapons testing.
Over 1,500 human "samples" were stolen from grieving families worldwide but only 500 were analyzed.
Many were babies and young children.
Bodies and body parts were stolen from hospitals and shipped to the United States without their parents’ knowledge or consent.
Stillborn babies were among the human remains stolen for research.
Dr. Willard Libby who ordered the bodies to be snatched was later given a Nobel prize.

If you’re choking and alone, you can perform the Heimlich maneuver on yourself by making a fist, placing it above your belly button, and quickly pushing inward and upward. You can also press your abdomen forcefully against a hard surface like the back of a chair or countertop to help dislodge the object blocking your airway. Call emergency services if you can’t clear the blockage quickly. 🚨🤚

Toxoplasmosis is caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii.
People can become infected by eating undercooked meat containing the parasite or by accidentally swallowing the parasite from contaminated food, water, soil, or surfaces.
Cats are part of the parasite’s life cycle, but not all cats have it.
An infected cat can shed the parasite in its feces, which can contaminate the environment.
Simply owning or touching a cat does not cause toxoplasmosis.
Most healthy people have no symptoms, but infection can be serious during pregnancy or with weakened immunity.

A study with 32 cat owners in Japan showed that spending 10 minutes with their cats lowered their feelings of excitement and a part of their nervous system activity but made their heart beat faster.
The faster heart rate was linked to higher stress and bonding hormones.
Petting cats more often changed their nervous system activity less.

Old English fox "a fox," from Proto-Germanic fuhsaz "fox" (cognates Old Saxon vohs, Middle Dutch and Dutch vos, Old High German fuhs, German Fuchs, Old Norse foa, Gothic fauho), from Proto-Germanic fuh-, from PIE puk- "tail" (source also of Sanskrit puccha- "tail").

A study of 1,160 men found that nose size can predict penis size. Larger noses were linked to longer penises. Penis length was also related to lower BMI. Penis circumference was linked to body weight and testicle size. Height, weight, foot size, and testosterone were measured, but nose size and BMI were key for length.
This study supports the old myth about nose and penis size.

There’s a bird that smells like manure. The hoatzin, a bird found in the Amazon rainforest, has earned the nickname “the stinkbird.” Its digestive system ferments leaves the way cows digest grass, producing a strong manure-like smell. Because of this, predators often avoid it—not because it’s dangerous, but because it smells terrible.

The human clitoris has about 10,000 to 11,000 nerve fibers, much more than the old estimate of 8,000. This number was based on cow studies, not humans. The clitoris is very small but has many nerves, making it very sensitive. Scientists studied tissue from seven people to find this new number. This helps with surgeries for gender changes and injuries. 🔬✨👙
