Why did Benjen Stark come to the Feast?

If the Night’s Watch denounce all titles and families, then why was Benjen allowed to go to the feast in Winterfell? Is any member of the nights watch just allowed to leave and visit their family? Is this a dumb question?

Rewatching season 5 episode 2, where Stannis offers to legitimize Jon.

If Ned had asked Robert years earlier, would Robert have done it? I know it would have created friction between Ned and Catelyn, but I can’t see Ned putting Jon before his children with Catelyn in the line of succession.

I loved the show BUT...

Just finished...
I loved the show, I could not predict it and although a lot of people I really liked died...
A lot survived and that made it really worth watching "Over everyone dying".
BUT
One thing is really annoying me.
I know its the most loved show ever so whatever I say will be defended and I will be attacked for a simple opinion and point I make BUUUUT....

The battle between the living and the dead finished.
AND THERE WASN'T A SINGLE WHITE WALKER FIGHT.
There was like 8 White Walkers there and NOT ONE of them actually went to battle.
I know they were defending the King but still it makes no sense how the show preps them for multiple seasons and then when it's actually time for the great battle, only the dead fight.
I know it seems like it's not a big deal but it kinda is, cause they kept giving us new ideas of how strong a White Walker is.
Just look at the fight between the White Walker VS John before the Walls fell.
Usual sword break when facing them, they have a surreal strenght and speed etc etc...
What's the point of telling us all of that if you ain't going to even have them go to war.
And even protecting the Night King they sucked ass and Arya killed him in front of all of them.
Just...Idk stupid..
Other than that man you can't even picture by the starting seasons how Jon would be so much more important to the story than Rob ever was....Incredible.
I really like Jon and the scene we see him as a baby then it cuts to his face (Revealing he is in fact the son of their father's sister "Aunt")
What an AWESOME SCENE.
Btw I found out it's Jon and not John how weird is that.. Anyways yeah 0 White Walkers into battle

Why did GRRM abandon his 5 year time skip plan?

I’ve read that George planned two trilogies with a 5 year time skip in between, which is why many of the characters were quite young in the first few books. Obviously, he didn’t follow through with this plan, but do we know why? What made him decide the characters ages were fine now?
