Advancements in science and technology have revolutionised our lives and with time we are getting more adapted to it. Many people believe that scientific and technological progress has resulted in similar lifestyle all across the globe. This essay will analyse both views and will provide an opinion in the conclusion.
On the one hand, progress in technology has brought people closer in terms of their way of living. People living in different countries can now share same dressing, jewellery, food, housing and so on. For instance, e-shopping websites like e-bay have helped people to order dresses, jewellery, electronic items and so on with few clicks. Stuff that was only available to locals can now be ordered by anyone anywhere. Widespread usage of Internet services has also played a major role in acquiring similar lifestyles. For instance, Facebook, Viber, Skype and so on has changed the way we dress, eat, work and commute. Things that were ionized with local tradition and their possession were an essence of pride can be acquired easily courtesy online banking and efficient payment systems.
On the other hand, these developments have taken away the cultural norms and traditions of a society. People adapting to western or eastern lifestyle are slowing giving away their heritage. For instance, in Muslims, wearing shalwar kameez on festivals is replaced with western dressing. Our richness in culture, eating habits, dressing norms and way of living is slowly changing which is obfuscating our nationality and uniqueness of culture.
To conclude, the above provide plausible arguments over similarities in lifestyles due to progress in technology, however, not all the developments are positive, there are some negative traits associated with it. Adapting lifestyle is not inappropriate, but one should not forget their local culture and traditions.

🔸Some people think that the Olympic Games are an exciting event that brings other nations together. Others say the Olympics is an expensive waste of money that would be better spent on other things.
Discuss both these points of view and give your own opinion.

People have different views about the Olympics. While some considers it to be a cause for unity among various nations, I argue that it is an absolute waste of money which could be put into better use.
On the one hand, it is understandable why the Olympic Games is thought to be an occasion that brings countries together. Held once every four years, the Olympics is a world-famous multi-sport event which attracts visitors from all around the world. This event provides athletes with the chance to set aside all their differences and compete with one another under common rules and regulations. Similarly, spectators from across the globe come to the host nation to enjoy this exciting occasion and subsequently come into direct contact with people of other nationalities, cultures and backgrounds. Therefore, the Olympic Games could be argued to bring unity between nations.
Nonetheless, I strongly believe that hosting this event would be a total misuse of financial resources of the host nation which could rather be directed at more beneficial causes. This is because the country hosting the Olympic Games has to heavily invest in building the necessary infrastructure which usually leads to huge amounts of national debt. To accommodate an influx of tourists, for instance, the government must construct new hotels, restaurants and public roads among other structures. Unfortunately, after the event ends, a vast majority of these facilities would be out of use as there will be no demand for them. Instead, it would be better to allocate so much money towards vital areas of public life such as healthcare and education because they yield permanent benefits.
In conclusion, although the Olympics may act as a bridge between nations, in my view, it is a complete dissipation of national budget which could be better used elsewhere.
