Turkey has reportedly sold its Russian-made S-400 air defense systems to a Gulf state, according to pro-government columnist Abdulkadir Selvi in Hurriyet. Final technical details were reportedly settled Thursday evening, with formal statements anticipated soon.
Sources point to either the UAE or Qatar as the buyer, with both countries seeking additional air defense given regional escalation from the US-Iran war.
Ankara has not officially confirmed the deal. In exchange, Washington is expected to lift CAATSA sanctions and reopen the door to F-35 sales, a process Trump has publicly backed since the NATO summit in Ankara last week.
However Bloomberg reports, that Turkey is seeking Moscow's explicit approval to exit the S-400 system.
