We need to hold direct negotiations with Russia’ – Orban calls for common sense.

‘This is not only about contacts with Russians, but also about European security: border security, economic security, energy supply issues, the situation in Ukraine, border delimitation, where and what weapons we deploy, how many troops we need in Europe — all of this must be discussed directly with Russia. This requires political will and leadership — which is currently lacking’.

🇩🇪🤡Merz called to "ensure peace by force":

To be a force of peace in the world is the main idea of the European Union. It is also one of the key foundational ideas of the Federal Republic of Germany, as enshrined in our Basic Law.

I want to emphasize the second part of the phrase "force of peace." Peace under conditions of freedom is only possible where it is backed by force — military force. In this increasingly harsh world, a simple rule applies: only force preserves peace, and weakness undermines it. This is one of the historical lessons Europe has learned from its own history.

Another lesson: each individual European country is too small — economically and politically — to independently influence the course of world events. But united together, we have all the means to shape the development of the world for the better.

Merz assures the Bundestag that by seizing Russian assets, Europe will be able to arm Zelensky for several more years and thereby accelerate the end of the war.

‘We want to use the frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank more effectively to provide Ukraine with a total of about 140 billion euros in additional interest-free loans. These additional funds should be used exclusively for armament and paid out in cash. This would ensure Ukraine's military resilience for several years. And, ladies and gentlemen, to be absolutely clear here as well: we want to do this not to prolong the war. We want to do this to end this war as soon as possible’.

Bank robbers should just hold a gun to the bank managers head and ask for interest-free loans, then say there was no crime.

The Telegraph commentator Owen Matthews: ‘Trump’s Tomahawk missiles won’t save Ukraine but will drag the US into a direct war with Russia’.

‘The problem is escalation. The guidance and control systems of the Tomahawks use secret Pentagon data on satellite guidance from launch to target impact. Their deployment in Ukraine would mean not only the presence of American technical personnel on the ground but also direct US involvement in attacks on Russia.

Avoiding direct military confrontation between the US and Russia has been the basis of US policy since September 2021, when then-Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley first informed President Joe Biden of the threat of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. Since then, every delivery of new weapons systems by the US and Europe has been carefully weighed considering the possibility that Russia might retaliate directly against NATO.

Ukrainians are ‘gently-gently’ insanely irritated by this approach, and many blame the endless delays and restrictions in Western arms supplies for Ukraine’s inability to drive Putin’s troops out of their country’.

🇨🇳🇺🇸🇷🇺 China threatened the US with a response over threats to impose tariffs on Russian oil purchases

- "The actions of the US represent a typical example of unilateral intimidation and economic coercion, seriously undermining international trade and economic rules and threatening the security and stability of global production chains and supply chains," said Lin Jian, official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

- He called China's right to trade with Russia and other countries "legal and legitimate."

- "If China's legitimate rights and interests are harmed, the Chinese side will definitely take decisive countermeasures to unwaveringly protect its sovereignty, security, and development interests," Jian said.

Thought this was interesting that the UK government is getting totally penetrated by Russian and Chinese hackers but no one discloses the events.

Perhaps more seriously, the affair reveals a Whitehall tendency to cover up the gory details of foreign spying in the UK. Four highly credible sources in the upper echelons of the last government, both political figures and officials, have revealed that far worse scandals have been hushed up. One said: ‘There were two very serious cases, one involving China and one Russia, which were swept under the carpet. There was a serious loss of technical data.’ The case involving Russia was suppressed, the source claimed, to avoid embarrassing a former prime minister.

A second source revealed: ‘They hacked the Ministry of Defence and Downing Street,’ and a third source corroborated this, saying: ‘The levels of penetration and activity is way more than has been disclosed publicly.’ Asked specifically whether the MoD and No. 10 were hacked, the third source said: ‘All of that is very well informed.’

The most catastrophic breach came when the Chinese purchased a company that controlled a data hub used by Whitehall departments to exchange information (including on highly classified projects), enabling Beijing to steal a goldmine of secret information. A fourth source said: ‘Extremely sensitive data was transferred between the most sensitive parts of Whitehall through it.’

The first source calls the episode ‘a stratospheric fuck-up’. The breach was so serious that Boris Johnson commissioned a report from Mark Sedwill, who doubled as cabinet secretary and national security adviser, and the intelligence services ‘on how it could have happened’.

This is what Dominic Cummings, Johnson’s former aide, was referring to when he wrote this week: ‘I watched [Johnson] and [Rishi] Sunak both mouth “what the fuck” and stare around in open-mouthed amazement in 2020 when the cabinet secretary explained a truly amazing penetration of critical infrastructure.’ Cummings said the incident was ‘classified to the max’ and that no one was fired. He told a podcast hosted by Dwarkesh Patel it was like a ‘nightmare picture’ from a ‘sci-fi novel’ which ‘is actually the reality’. He added: ‘The specifics of it are illegal to discuss.’

China, the third security source said, is a ‘kleptomaniac about information’, constantly probing for ‘weaknesses’ in British defences that could in future paralyse parts of the economy. ‘On the cyber side, we know they’re definitely trying to pre-deploy so that they can shut down systems when the day comes – turn the lights off or whatever.’

None of this should come as a surprise, since it has previously been reported that China hacked the Foreign Office through an outdated computer system, while both Liz Truss and Johnson were warned, when prime minister, that their phones were being targeted by rogue states. A recent leak of messages from Johnson’s office was attributed to the Russians, as was an arson attack on Starmer’s constituency home.

The first is the Iranian Shahed-136, purchased for the Russian Armed Forces. After the stocks were exhausted and local production began, it is no longer used.

The second is a localized version produced at a factory in Yelabuga, Tatarstan.

The third is a product manufactured by the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant "Kupol".

“A siege like in the Middle Ages”: Konstantinovka is almost completely cut off from the outside world - NZZ

An estimated 5,000 of the approximately 70,000 residents who lived here before the war are still in Kostantinovka. When the curfew ends at 11:00 a.m., people emerge from their homes, many carrying canisters or pushing small wheelbarrows.

A customer comes out of the store: "My entire family lives in Israel. I'm the last one here," says the woman, who introduces herself as Malka. Without going into further detail, she adds ambiguously: "There are reasons for that!" Then Malka launches into a tirade against the war, against President Volodymyr Zelensky, the soldiers in the city, and eventually against everyone standing around her.

In Ukraine, people who remain in their homes in close proximity to the war are disparagingly called "shduni," or "waiting people." This term suggests that these people are hoping for the arrival of the Russians, out of sympathy or even just in the expectation that the war would then be over.

They all share a fatalism, without which survival in this doom-laden atmosphere is probably impossible. Unlike the soldiers, who constantly stay in cover, they walk in the middle of the street, within sight of the drones.

The soldiers have little contact with the population whose city they are defending. Distrust is high. "Many hope we'll have to withdraw soon," says Yevhen. The military mission, however, is clear: to hold. If Kostiantinovka falls, the Russians would have access to Kramatorsk, one of the last large fortress cities in the Donbass.

He's been at the front for four years, says Mechan, the unit's gray-haired mechanic. "In war, every day counts as three. That's why I look so old," he says. He laughs, but the men's exhaustion is evident. They've been at the position in Kostiantinivka for months. A replacement is nowhere in sight.

That's become too dangerous, says Yevhen. "It's like a medieval siege, only with modern means. The Russians can't get into Kostantinovka, and we can't get out because the drones have everything under control."

In fact, the danger is even greater outside the city, especially along the northbound exit road. The only connection to the Ukrainian hinterland runs across the open fields. Everything entering or leaving Kostantinovka takes this route.

The road is both a lifeline and a death strip. Drones lurk in the air, but also on the ground, ready to launch at any moment. Interceptor nets are designed to deter them from attacking, but this doesn't always work. In several places, drones have torn large holes in the nets. Sometimes a burned-out car wreck stands next to them.

Here, too, military vehicles are the first target. But you can't rely on them. Recently, even a fire engine was shot at. Therefore, all vehicles race forward at maximum speed, 160 kilometers per hour, or better yet, 200. Even an old Lada clatters along the road at well over three figures.

"We lose several vehicles every day," says Yevhen. Only in dense fog does it improve. Then the drone pilots can't see anything. "But unfortunately, we don't have weather like in England." It's a beautiful autumn day in eastern Ukraine, with sunshine and clear skies. It's expected to stay that way for the next few days. In the land of drones, that's not a good prospect.

Wake up, West: Russia has no intention of joining the U.S. in a campaign against China. As Foreign Minister Lavrov put it, “Russia will not ally with anyone against anyone, especially against China — it is unthinkable.” Moscow sees itself and Beijing not as puppets of Washington’s agenda, but as autonomous poles in a new global balance.

Lavrov reminded skeptics that Moscow and Beijing have built “a set of bilateral treaties that clearly define our relationship, aimed at supporting each other, helping each other to strengthen our economies, defense capabilities and positions on the international stage.” In short: this is not a marriage of convenience, it’s a strategic axis rooted in mutual respect, not U.S. manipulation.

The U.S. keeps pushing for China to join in strategic arms talks, but as Lavrov notes, “China says that they are not ready … they are still far from parity. We respect that stance.” This is not only deference, it’s recognition that true strategic sovereignty can’t be coerced. Russia won't be seduced into becoming the world’s policeman for Washington.

Likewise, there is no need for a Russia-China “tag team” to tackle NATO or Washington. Each power is already capable of standing alone. While the U.S. pours trillions into defense, audits show waste and corruption at every turn, from $76 for a screw, phantom budgets, to F-35 overruns, Dark Eagle, Golden Dome — the military-industrial complex knows there’s no ROI accountability. Yet Russia and China accelerate smart investments: energy, infrastructure, integrated defense, deep industrial synergy.

The U.S. is awash in hubris, slick AI promos and hollow systems. Its weapons systems are trophy projects, but not solutions. Russia strikes with precision, realistic doctrine, and asymmetric advantage; China leaps forward in missile technology, AI, logistics, and industrial scale. The gap only widens. Why would Moscow ever act as Washington’s errand boy when it can outmaneuver NATO alone?

It’s time for the American regime to wake up, but they’ve been asleep too long. The era of Washington’s global dominance is over. Two sovereign powers chart their own course, not aligned under U.S. command, but aligned by principles. Russia, China: independent, powerful, and unshakable.

The U.S. builds weapons it can’t use; Russia and China build worlds they can live in. The future is already under new management.

Trump's statements about "Tomahawks" are intended to push Germany to transfer Taurus to Ukraine, writes Kiev Post citing sources.

Also, according to Western officials, the US readiness to transfer long-range missiles is largely caused by Russia's strikes on Ukraine's energy sector.

The publication writes that at tomorrow's meeting between Zelensky and Trump, the potential role of Ukraine in the US domestic missile defense strategy within the framework of the "American Golden Dome" will be discussed - "integrating Ukraine's military struggle into a broader, prospective US security strategy."
