"The economic and industrial advantages China enjoys over the US today did not exist 2–3 decades ago. A decade from now, however, China’s advantages over the US industrially and thus militarily will only have grown. The US seeks to exploit a closing window of opportunity to fight now before the odds tilt any further in China’s favor. But considering the realities of these recent announcements by the US and how little they actually change the odds in Washington’s favor, some may conclude that the window has already shut."
According to the Japanese news outlet Sankei Shimbun, an unknown number of troops from Taiwan participated in U.S. military training exercises in Michigan last month led by the National Guard.
The move comes after the U.S. approved of $85 million in weapons under the FMF program reserved for sovereign countries.
The U.S. 🇺🇸 denies these moves escalate tensions, while China 🇨🇳 has called them provocative and vowed to resolutely protect China’s sovereignty.

“The British parliament has for the first time referred to Taiwan as an ‘independent country’ in an official document, breaking a political taboo as Foreign Secretary James Cleverly visits China this week.”
👨🦲🇷🇺🤝🇨🇳 Putin agreed to visit China on first trip since arrest warrant - Bloomberg writes that the Russian President will visit Beijing in October for the Belt and Road Forum.
“Vladimir Putin accepted the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend this event."
Putin has not left Russia since the warrant was announced by a court in The Hague in March. China is one of the places where its security is guaranteed.
Putin last visited China in February 2022, when he attended the Beijing Winter Olympics and held talks with Xi Jinping, in which both sides declared partnership "without limits".

ERITREA: WEST PURSUES PERILOUS PATH
Western attempts to maintain a unipolar world have led to endless global conflicts. But there’s growing global resistance to what’s happening.
That was the message from Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki at the BRICS summit this week.
He warns the latest escalating conflict in Ukraine is “fraught with consequences to ghastly to contemplate”. And says opportunity for global progress for all is repeatedly thwarted by America’s hegemonic interests.
Mr Afwerki calls for a fairer world order and believes alliances like BRICS could help achieve it.
It’s a rousing speech.

🔹Brazil's 🇧🇷 Treasury Minister Fernando Haddad, confirmed that the Brazilian gov't wants to help Argentina 🇦🇷with exports using the Chinese 🇨🇳Yuan, instead of the dollar for payment. A guarantee, will be activated only if there is a default by the Argentines even in yuan.
🔹The guarantee to be given will be from $100 million to $140 million USD 💵 equivalent, with the conversion (yuan to Brazilian real) made by Banco do Brasil in London. After the exchange, Brazilian exporters will receive payments directly in real.
🔹The proposal is beneficial for Brazilian exporters 🚢, who face difficulties in closing deals with Argentines due to the lack of USD Forex reserves in Argentina which resulted in heavy devaluation of the Argentina Peso. Both countries have said they wanted to "advance discussions on a common South American currency" to be used for financial and trade flows.
🔹Bolivia 🇧🇴 recently started using the Chinese 🇨🇳 yuan to pay for imports and exports with China becoming the third country in South America (after Argentina 🇦🇷 and Brazil 🇧🇷), to do so. The IMF may have to accept the Chinese yuan as a currency for countries to settle their obligations with the IMF following Argentina’s recent debt repayment in yuan, since the yuan is part of the IMF's SDR basket of currencies.
🔹Discussion recently began on the revival of the regional bloc previously known as the Union of South American Nations, or UNASUR. The Southern Common Market (Mercosur), {a customs union comprising of 12 Latin American countries with a free intra-zone trade & a common trade policy} have aired concerns that the South American region is seriously affected by the restrictions and regulations imposed by the US financial system.

🇯🇵🇨🇳 Japan may take China to WTO over Fukushima-driven seafood import ban
Japan threatened to take China to the World Trade Organization (WTO) to seek a reversal of Beijing's ban on all of its seafood imports after the release of treated radioactive water.
Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi told reporters that Japan would take "necessary action (on China's aquatic product ban) under various routes including the WTO framework".
Filing a WTO complaint might become an option if protesting to China through diplomatic routes is ineffective, Economic Security Minister Sanae Takaichi said separately.

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) conducted military drills in the Taiwan Straits, encircling the island by air following the U.S.’s announcement of $500 million in infrared search and tracking systems for F16 fighter jets.
The People’s Republic of China 🇨🇳 has repeatedly called these arms sales a futile violation of China’s sovereignty. Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, a spokesperson at China's Ministry of National Defense, said on Friday that the PLA is always on high alert to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits.
