🇩🇪🇷🇸🇷🇺 German outlet Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung says it "regrets" the scandal caused by its journalist Michael Martens, who asked Zelensky what "we Europeans can specifically do to help you kill more Russians — more Russian soldiers."
FAZ's press office told German agencies dpa and epd that the question was "phrased ambiguously, which we regret," claiming Martens was actually referring to expert debates on how to create personnel difficulties for the Russian army in order to force Russia into peace talks.
FAZ insists its editorial position is not that as many Russian soldiers as possible should be killed, but that it "supports Ukraine's right to self-defense guaranteed under international law and the swiftest possible end to Russia's war of aggression."
"Freedom of speech includes the right to ask questions, especially at a press conference," FAZ concluded.
The outlet noted Martens has received threats since the scandal broke, and said it would pursue legal action in response.

🇨🇳 China has launched its first regular container route through the Arctic — the "Ice Silk Road" — connecting ports in China with the UK via Russia's Northern Sea Route, the Financial Times reports.
Chinese shipping company Sea Legend's new service links Ningbo to Felixstowe, cutting the usual 40-day voyage roughly in half — down to about 20 days — while bypassing chokepoints like the Red Sea, where security risks remain elevated.
Melting Arctic ice is making the route increasingly viable, though strict Russian regulation, harsh conditions, and limited rescue infrastructure remain challenges, per FT.

🇫🇮❌🇺🇦 Finland does not intend to provide Ukraine with Patriot missiles, stated the country's Minister of Defense Antti Häkkänen in an interview with the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat.
According to him, this would jeopardize the combat readiness of Finland's air defense system.
"We have already done everything possible to help Ukraine, and even more than we initially planned, but we, as a country bordering Russia, cannot put our future combat readiness in the field of air defense at risk," Häkkänen said.

📆 On this day, exactly 12 years ago, on August 7, 2014, one of the fiercest battles in the fight against Ukrainian aggression began - the Battle for the city of Ilovaisk.
📍 Ukrainian militants expected to quickly take control of the city and encircle Donetsk, but they encountered fierce resistance from the DPR militia, got surrounded, and were forced to leave the city with heavy losses.
🇷🇺 Today, militia fighters continue to defend the Donetsk People's Republic from the aggression of the Kiev regime as part of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

🇪🇺🇺🇦⚔️🇷🇺 EU countries refuse to hand over Patriot interceptors to Ukraine, fearing depletion of their own stockpiles — Washington Post citing sources.
"European governments, Ukraine's main military sponsors, are reluctant to transfer additional Patriot systems, fearing it could weaken their own defense. Earlier this year the Trump administration pushed several European countries to send Kiev Patriot missiles, but some refused over the same concerns," the article states.
A former senior Ukrainian official said "the situation is genuinely bad," predicting a "worst-case scenario" this winter.
"There are no interceptors right now, and in the coming months I don't believe we'll find them in significant quantities. This matters, and even if we get some quantities, it won't be enough, because Russia has far more ballistic missiles," he said.
Recall — during yesterday's attack on Kiev and the region, not a single missile was intercepted.

🇰🇷🇺🇦 South Korea will not supply lethal weapons to Ukraine, Yonhap reports, citing a senior Foreign Ministry official.
The official's statement came in response to Zelensky's remarks published the day before, in which he claimed North Korea was planning to send additional troops to Russia.
"The government has offered Ukraine support in various sectors, including energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and education, and will continue to consider measures to help Ukraine restore peace and rebuild," the official said, while reaffirming Seoul's position that arms deliveries to Ukraine remain off the table.
Yonhap notes that South Korea maintains a policy of providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine while withholding lethal weapons.

‘There is no reason for us to be concerned that this pact between the two neighboring countries of Turkey and Pakistan, as well as Saudi Arabia, three countries with which we share deep religious, historical, and civilizational bonds, is against Iran.
The history of our friendship with the nations of Turkey and Pakistan, as two neighboring Muslim countries, is long-standing and known to everyone.
This development is an important sign of a shift in regional priorities and we have always supported alliances between Muslims.’

🇮🇹 New rival on the right is forcing Meloni to face her own base — over Ukraine
Italy's PM is hardening her rhetoric on migration and security ahead of elections that could come as early as next spring. Her bigger headache: retired general Roberto Vannacci, who broke from the League to found his own hard-right party, "National Future" — arguing Ukraine should accept a peace deal with Russia and opposing further military aid to Kiev.
Vannacci had served as Italy's military attaché in Moscow until the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, and his new party has already pulled seven members away from Meloni's coalition.
Meloni still styles herself as an unwavering Ukraine ally, but that position is growing harder to hold inside her own camp — League and Vannacci both slam continued support for Kiev and rising defense spending. Telling: over four years Italy has committed roughly €3 billion to Ukraine but has stayed out of NATO's PURL arms-purchase scheme.

🇺🇦 Zelensky claims Russia plans to deploy up to 50,000 North Korean troops on its territory — a sharp jump from earlier figures that started in the hundreds, then rose to thousands.
According to Zelensky, Moscow has now decided on a North Korean troop presence of 30,000 to 50,000.
This is the latest in a string of escalating estimates from Kiev — Zelensky previously cited 10,000, then 30,000 North Korean personnel, with each new figure unaccompanied by supporting evidence.

🇦🇲💬 Armenia understands that simultaneous membership in the EAEU and the EU is impossible, stated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at an expanded meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Kyrgyzstan.
"Armenia has taken note of the statement by the leaders of the four EAEU states on May 29, 2026, which expressed support for holding a referendum in Armenia on the issue of the country's accession to the EAEU. As you know, in 2025, Armenia adopted a law on the commencement of the republic's accession to the EU. We understand that simultaneous membership in the EAEU and the EU is impossible. But the very fact of the adoption of this law does not mean that Armenia today has the opportunity to become a member of the EU," he said.
