🏁🇺🇦 According to The Telegraph, discussions around deploying U.S. private military contractors in Ukraine also include the idea of imposing a no-fly zone after a potential ceasefire.
The paper reports that several European states are considering a phased plan: Western air defense systems and fighter jets would “protect” Ukrainian airspace to allow the resumption of civilian flights.
The first stage would involve Western jets and ground-based air defenses covering airports in Lvov and other cities in western Ukraine. If “trust” in the ceasefire grows, the mission could expand eastward toward Kiev and beyond.
Kiev has demanded a no-fly zone since the start of the conflict — effectively asking NATO to shoot down Russian aircraft and missiles. NATO repeatedly refused, knowing this would mean direct war with Russia.
The Telegraph’s plan, however, openly envisions Western air defense units on Ukrainian soil, something Moscow has consistently warned it will not tolerate.

This move would allow Trump to bypass his pledge not to send American troops to Ukraine. The idea is being discussed alongside vague “security guarantees” from a so-called coalition of the willing.
PMCs would be tasked with rebuilding Ukraine’s defensive lines, guarding U.S. businesses, and establishing new military bases.
The paper claims their presence would act as a “deterrent” against Russia breaking a ceasefire. In reality, the focus is on strengthening Ukraine’s military: keeping Ukrainian troops on the front line while rearming and retraining them under NATO standards. At the same time, Kiev would continue buying U.S. weapons and air defense systems.
Notably, the plan avoids any mention of regular foreign troops in Ukraine — something the Kremlin has made clear it will not tolerate.
The Telegraph reports these so-called guarantees could be announced as early as this weekend.
