What does "Bitcoin dominance" mean?

The BTC dominance index is an indicator that shows the share of Bitcoin in the total capitalization of cryptos. BTC's market influence is growing along with its dominance.

According to CoinMarketCap, the value of all cryptocurrencies in the world is approximately equal to $1.16 trillion, of which $536 billion (46.23%) is the value of Bitcoin. It's "BTC dominance."

The BTC dominance index shows investor interest in the oldest cryptocurrency. Increasing dominance means traders sell altcoins to buy more Bitcoin. A decrease in Bitcoin dominance means investors prefer altcoins to the first cryptocurrency.

This dominance index is an auxiliary tool for forming an investment portfolio. It helps to analyze the market behavior and decide whether it is necessary to redirect your funds to Bitcoin, altcoins, or stablecoins.

Important information ⚡️

The deposits and withdrawals of ETH and other ERC20 tokens will be closed on the 6th of April at 9 a.m. (UTC) preparing for the Shanghai update, which will be expected on the 12th of April, 2023.

The Shanghai update is a hard fork and a major update of the Ethereum network that could affect the market value of the ETH cryptocurrency, as stakers and validators can now withdraw ETH from the Beacon Chain deposit contract. This change makes the network complete in terms of PoS consensus, allowing users to not only stake coins but also liquidate them if necessary. Deposits and withdrawals will also be closed during the hard fork itself.
