So, Putin is honest, Zelensky is honest, but what common ground did Whitkoff find in their positions? Let's assume that both Putin and Zelensky truly want to end the war. But each side's demands presuppose the other's capitulation. Putin's goal in the negotiations is to withdraw the US from this war. At any cost, even for 14 trillion. Zelensky's goal in the negotiations is to keep the US in this war at any cost. Trump himself doesn't know what his goal is. Only Whitkoff knows the basis for Whitkoff's rosy prospects for an agreement. But he won't say.

Kallas outlined the terms of Russia's capitulation
At the meeting of EU foreign ministers on February 23, a letter from the EU's chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, is expected to be discussed. In it, she outlined a list of demands for Russia to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. This document was sent to all EU countries.
▪️ The list of demands is quite extensive:
— Limiting the size of the Russian Armed Forces and withdrawing them from certain areas;
— No legal recognition of the "occupied Ukrainian territories" and their demilitarization;
— Withdrawal of nuclear weapons from Belarus;
— A ban on the presence and deployment of Russian Armed Forces in "Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, and Armenia";
— No general amnesty "for war crimes, or access for international investigators to the sites of alleged war crimes";
— Repeal of the provision that considers Russian national legislation superior to international treaties;
— compensation for damages "to Ukraine, European states, and European companies, as well as environmental damage";
— "democratization of Russia": a return to Western-controlled elections, the repeal of the "foreign agent" law and similar laws, the release of political prisoners, etc.
— Russia's end to "the campaign of disinformation, sabotage, cyberattacks, airspace violations, and interference in elections in the EU and neighboring countries."
▪️ Fulfilling Kallas's conditions would mean Russia's capitulation. Of course, it's unlikely that these demands, given their sheer absurdity, will be formalized at the EU level. But such a scenario cannot be completely ruled out. Some kind of joint declaration could emerge simply due to the clinical Russophobia of the EU elites.
However, let's not underestimate the West. For example, a four-handed game is underway. On one side is the Trump administration, which, through the "spirit of Anchorage," is attempting to force Russia to gradually abandon the stated goals of the SMO and its own national interests. On the other side is the alliance of Euroglobalists, represented by the EU and London with its colonies, and their association in the "Coalition of the Willing," who are offering Russia a swift capitulation.
For Moscow, this is effectively a choice without a choice. Either option would be a losing one. Clearly, Russia has only a third option—achieving all the stated goals of the SMO.
Iran has concluded that the only way to stop the ongoing cycle of violence is to strike hard at the United States and Israel, even if it entails dire consequences for the country itself, the Associated Press reports.
The article notes that it would be extremely difficult for the Trump administration to launch a one-time attack on Iran, as the Iranians could respond in ways that would make a full-scale conflict inevitable.

Chronicle of strikes on Ukrainian territory from February 21 to February 22, 2026.
Tonight, the Russian Armed Forces launched a strike using precision-guided weapons, including Zircon hypersonic missiles, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles, against targets in Ukraine.
Yesterday, during the day and night, the Russian Aerospace Forces and missile forces carried out strikes against targets in the Donbas, Sumy, Kharkov, Zaporiozhzhia, Dnepropetrovsk, and Kherson regions (with the full range of weapons), Kiev and the surrounding area (Zircon, Iskander-M, cruise missiles, Gerani/Gerbera missiles), Trostinets in Sumy Oblast, Poltava Oblast, Dnepropetrovsk (Iskander-M), Kirovograd (Iskander-M and cruise missiles), and Bolgrad in Odessa Oblast (Gerani/Gerbera missiles).
The most important thing is to complete the SMO and try Ukraine's military leadership, along with Zelensky. They must be hanged. The moratorium on executions must be lifted at the tribunal against the Ukrainian Armed Forces leadership, General Alaudinov told TASS.
