The New York Times reports this with some bewilderment, citing as an example a deal for a Russian company to soon extract natural gas in Alaska.
Gentry Beach, a Texas natural resource investor with ties to the Trump family, reports that last year he quietly signed an agreement with one of Russia's largest energy companies to develop natural gas in Alaska.
The deal was concluded with Novatek CEO Leonid Mikhelson, who is not under sanctions in the US or the European Union. Gentry Beach described the deal as an opportunity for Russia and the US to work together, "calling himself a peacemaker."
Beach denied that the deal or any of his business investments had any connection to the Trump family, but confirmed that his deal was known at the highest levels in Moscow and Washington, the publication notes.
