With the rise of AI-assisted development and 'vibe coding,' I’ve been reflecting on the shifting landscape of software engineering. It feels like purely writing code is becoming a smaller part of the value chain, while understanding system behavior is becoming more critical. I’m considering specializing in Monitoring & Observability as a primary niche, rather than sticking to the traditional Backend/Frontend/Fullstack paths.

My questions to the community are:
1. How do you see the market demand for dedicated Observability specialists in the next 3-5 years?
2. Is this niche too narrow (risky) or is it a strategic move to stand out in a saturated market?
3. For those in SRE or Platform Engineering roles, what’s the one thing a newcomer should focus on beyond just learning Prometheus/Grafana?
