Fired employee accessed company’s computer 'test system' and deleted servers, causing it to lose S$918,000
Kandula Nagaraju, 39, was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months for unauthorized access to NCS's "test system". Kandula’s former team managed this system which was used to test new software before launch.
After being fired in November 2022, Kandula, feeling "confused and upset", used administrator credentials to access NCS's test system from India and Singapore, deleting 180 virtual servers between January and March 2023.
Kandula wrote and executed scripts to delete the servers despite being unauthorised. His laptop, containing the scripts, was seized by the police. He had searched on Google for scripts to delete virtual servers.
His actions caused NCS a loss of S$918,000.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is coming
Qualcomm has revealed that it will hold the next Snapdragon Summit 2024 event from October 21-23, 2024, in Maui, Hawaii
Now, the Snapdragon 8 gen 4 will be the first Qualcomm SoC to be based on a custom ARM instruction set with Nuvia core instead of ARM's cortex cores
Part Number: SM-8750
GPU: Adreno 8xx @ 1.15GHz
CPU:
2× Phoenix large @ 4.2GHz
6× Phoenix Medium @ 3.0GHz
Manufactured by TSMC on its 3nm process (N3B)
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 GPU upgrades would be MASSIVE!
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will utilize an upgraded GPU architecture with improved cache and memory compression technology.
The architecture is called “Slice GPU architecture” wherein the GPU is divided into multiple independent physical units called “slices.” Each slice has its own pipeline, cache, and memory.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 would also feature a new 'memory compression algorithm', for the first time since the release of Snapdragon 650 in 2016.
This new technology is called "dynamic wave pairing" & it was patented by Qualcomm in 2022.
Dynamic Wave Pairing will allow the GPU to distribute tasks more efficiently as it can assign workloads to different sections within itself, and then choose the most suitable one to handle that specific task.
Although the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 can reach 3100 in single-core on Geekbench, however, will power consumption will suck a lot & it might heat too.
Thus, many Chinese brands will incorporate 6,000mAh larger batteries in their smartphones to compensate for power consumption in the Qualcomm chip

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Spotted at GeekBench
Samsung Galaxy S24 Fan Edition will launch at the Samsung Unpacked event on 10th July which 'might' take place in Paris, France
Specifications:
• 6.1" AMOLED Display
• 8GB/12GB LPDDR5X RAM
• 256GB (UFS 4.0)/ 128GB (UFS 3.1) storage
• 4500mAh battery
Now, the S24 FE will be powered by the Samsung Exynos 2400 processor
In case you missed it, the Samsung Xclipse 940 is a "Hexa-core" GPU
But the clock speed of the Cortex-X4 prime core is a bit lower than expected in Exynos 2400 with the Galaxy S24 FE
Normally, the Exynos 2400 Cortex-X4 cores runs at 3.2GHz, here it is listed as 3.1GHz
So the S24FE is powered by flagship Exynos 2400 SOC, with big core clock speed slightly decreased, from 3.21 to 3.11 (GHz)

Apple IDs are becoming Apple Accounts
Apple is rebranding Apple accounts from Apple ID to Apple Account.
“With the releases of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11, Apple ID is renamed to Apple Account for a consistent sign-in experience across Apple services and devices, and relies on a user’s existing credentials,”
Apple Account" is certainly a more straightforward name, but "Apple ID" had been used for over two decades and had a lot of sentimental value.

A revolutionary update in macOS 15 - Window Tiling
Window Tiling is finally supported in macOS with the new update. This makes it easier to arrange windows automatically on your screen without manually dragging and resizing each one individually or switching into full-screen mode.
This is a revolutionary change in macOS. We do not know if it supports keyboard shortcuts, and if it doesn't, Rectangle would still be quite useful.

Apple Intelligence Supported Devices
With the iPhones, ONLY the iPhone 15 Pro models & above will support it
Google got a LOT of criticism for not supporting Gemini Nano on the Pixel 8 at launch. People were even using it as "evidence" that Google's 7 years of update pledge was already broken.
Though Google later backtracked, the reason they skipped Pixel 8 was due to its lower RAM & the UX degradation that might occur with keeping the AICore system service persistently in memory.
Now we have Apple skipping AI support on the non-Pro iPhone 15 models. Will there be as much outrage?
Will Apple Intelligence features continue to be segmented by Pro versus non-Pro models?
The regular iPhone 16 & iPhone 16 Plus might get as powerful chip as the A17 Pro, but will Apple include enough RAM to run their on-device models?
With the MacBooks, Intel Macs will NOT support Apple Intelligence as atleast an M1 chip or above is required.
The 50,000$ worth Intel Mac Pro won't be supported either

14 years later, iPads finally have a Calculator app
Apple announced a new Calculator app for iPads after 14 years of long wait for users with the iPadOS 18
This calculator app supports Apple Pencil and an interesting 'Math Notes' feature that allows users to type or write out mathematical expressions and see them instantly solved in their own handwriting. It's also possible to assign values to variables when learning new concepts in class, calculating a budget, and more.
With a new graphing feature, users can write or type an equation, insert a graph with just one tap, and add multiple equations on the same graph to see how they relate. Math Notes are also automatically accessible in the Notes app in a new Math Notes folder.
However, do NOT use the calculator app with two equations as it fails to solve them correctly as shown in the image above 🫠

A critical vulnerability (CVE-2024-33905) discovered in Telegram allowed attackers to hijack user accounts with a single click!
Here's how the exploit worked:
1. Malicious Mini-App: Attackers would create malicious Telegram mini-apps.
2. Deceptive Pop-up: When launched, the mini-app would display a seemingly harmless pop-up window asking the victim to click "OK."
3. Session Hijacked: Clicking "OK" unknowingly granted the attacker control over the victim's Telegram session, even bypassing two-factor authentication!
This vulnerability was particularly dangerous as it could be easily embedded in seemingly harmless clickbait, putting countless users at risk.
The good news:
* The vulnerability was reported to Telegram on March 9, 2024.
* While details about the fix are unavailable, users should be wary of suspicious mini-apps and avoid clicking on unverified pop-ups.
ARM demands destruction of all PCs with Snapdragon X
ARM and Qualcomm are clashing over licensing agreements. ARM claims Qualcomm broke the deal by buying Nuvia and using its cores in Snapdragon X chips, which isn't covered by their license. ARM, in their lawsuit, demands that Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Microsoft, Lenovo, Samsung and other smaller manufacturers should destroy all notebooks or mini PCs with Snapdragon X CPUs.
This might be why Microsoft prefers to work with Mediatek and Nvidia rather than Qualcomm.
Qualcomm fired back with a lawsuit, accusing ARM of not delivering promised items. ARM wants to push through a new licensing models to base license costs on the price of the device rather than the processor.
The first court hearing is in December 2024, so the fate of these devices is uncertain for now.

Apple Unveils Passwords app that syncs across iOS, iPad, Mac, and Windows
At WWDC 2024, Apple revealed a new standalone Passwords app to manage app and website passwords, verification codes, passkeys, and more & syncs your passwords across more devices including Macs, iPhones, iPads, and the Vision Pro headset. It also syncs with PCs via the iCloud for Windows app.
You can also view your Wi-Fi passwords in one place, and share passwords in groups with people you want to have them.
One big advantage could be that it will integrate even more deeply with your Apple logins and family-sharing setups than other options like 1Password or Bitwarden. MacOS will autofill to populate passwords in the Passwords app

The New Redesigned Photos App
The Photos app is completely redesigned in iOS 18.
The app has been unified into a single view, with a photo grid at the top that views the entire library and collections organized by theme below. Users can use Months and Years views at the bottom, and there's a filter button that allows you to hide screenshots and sort in other ways.
The space below the grid includes Collections with the ability to browse by topics like Time, People, Memories, Trips, and more.
Recent Days show photos from the past few days, with things like photos of receipts filtered out automatically. People and Pets now gather photos of groups of people and collections can be reordered or pinned.
Swipe right from the grid and you'll see a new carousel with Featured Photos and other favorite collections. It automatically refreshes to surface new images.

iOS 18 will let users lock and hide apps
iOS 18 will let users lock system Apple apps and 3rd-party apps. Authentication would be needed using FaceID or TouchID to access these apps even if the phone is unlocked
Android’s version locks the phone to the current running app, allowing the user to access only that app unless biometrics or a PIN is used to exit.
In contrast, Apple’s app lock secures specific apps that you have previously selected.
Additionally, users can hide apps they wish to keep discreet, which will not be visible in the app drawer and will only be accessible through authentication.
Furthermore, iOS 18 will ensure that while the app lock feature is active, information from within these locked apps does not appear in search results or notifications
This feature is somewhat similar to Android 15’s new Private Space and Samsung’s Secure Folder
