Security bug allows anyone to spoof Microsoft employee emails
Vsevolod Kokorin, also known as Slonser, discovered a bug that allows spoofing of Microsoft corporate email accounts, making phishing attempts appear legitimate. The bug affects emails sent to Outlook accounts only, which is a pool of at least 400 million users.
After Microsoft initially dismissed his report, Kokorin shared his findings on X/Twitter, leading to widespread support and prompting Microsoft to acknowledge the issue and revisit some of his older email-related reports. This incident shows how Microsoft does not even care about security reports.

Telecom operators in India started limited trials of Caller ID service to curb spam calls
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in November 2022 proposed a Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) to allow users to identify incoming callers by displaying their number and their name as well.
This initiative is similar to Truecaller & seeks to reduce spam & fraud calls.
Now, some telecom operators in Mumbai and Haryana have begun trials for caller ID services in response to Govt. & TRAI pressure
However, telecom operators have expressed concerns about the mandatory implementation of CNAP.
Jio cautioned against mandatory adoption, citing potential technical challenges such as increased load on signaling & possible impacts on latency & interconnection-related issues.
Airtel highlighted “techno-commercial challenges” & the need for CNAP to comply with privacy laws.
Meanwhile, Vodafone-Idea suggested that CNAP should be offered as an optional service rather than a mandatory one.

Google is testing a 1-click solution to run Chrome OS in a virtual machine on Pixel devices.
They're making a new app called "Ferrochrome launcher" that automatically downloads, configures, and launches an ARM64 build of Chromium OS using the VM launcher app.
Currently, you have to manually compile and configure everything yourself. Plus, currently doing this requires rooting your device, but that might not be fully necessary soon (will need to test this though).
(Ferrochrome is the code-name for the project to run Chrome OS in a VM on Android)
Finally Something New in Android ROM Development, Introducing Project Lindroid
Android, Linux, and GSI tools developer Erfan Abdi has introduced Project Lindroid for using Linux on your Android smartphones
Although it might seem like a reverse waydroid, but you can have full hardware-accelerated Linux on your Android as an app. GPU acceleration works as well
Linux is running inside the container and can access the real native hardware.
Lindroid default and recommended compositor is KWin but it also supports x11 display, although it's an experimental feature.
Lindroid can run known Linux mobiles such as Ubuntu Touch (lomiri), Droidian(phosh), and even Plasma Mobile on your Android smartphone
Lindroid also supports multi-display and multi-input. It's even compatible with Android desktop mode
Root is required along with some small patches on AOSP. There are also plans to make a Magisk Module.
Lindroid is fully open-source & it will be available in LibreMobileOS under project ulomo.

EU might Fine Apple 50$ Million per day under DMA
Apple has allowed a 3rd-party app store on iPhones instead of sideloading to comply with EU DMA laws
However, Apple is asking developers a 'core technology fees' of €0.50 (55c) per app install annual fee of 3rd-party app stores if their app crosses 1 Million downloads
This means that for 8M app installs, developers need to pay $310k monthly OR $3.7 MILLION per year as a FEE to Apple
There's also an additional 3% that goes to Apple if a developer uses its payment processor.
Thus, imposing such fees onto developers might be found in breach of the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA)
Acc to a report, EU is expected to charges on Apple in the coming weeks. Apple might face a fine of up to 5% of its global daily turnover per day for non-compliance i.e $50 million per day.
However, the EU's findings are preliminary, so Apple still have time to make any necessary changes
Reuters reported that Meta/Facebook could be charged as well after Apple

Google is Cancelling Subscription for those who used VPN Workarounds for cheaper YouTube Premium
YouTube Premium Subscription is priced at different rates in different countries, possibly to better accommodate the purchasing power of the local currency and align with local consumer expectations.
For example, in the US it costs 14$ per month while in India its 1.5$ per month
Thus, some users have used VPNs to buy YouTube Premium at cheaper rates, but it appears that Google is cracking down on such subscriptions and canceling them.
Several YouTube Premium subscribers have had their Premium membership randomly canceled.
However, the common thread between these cancelations is that the users used a VPN workaround to subscribe to Premium at a cheaper rate than what is available for their home market.
Redditors who have contacted customer service mention that their cancelation is because the user “moved” to a different location than the one they signed up from.

Qualcomm agrees to pay $75 Million for settlement over sales and licensing practices
Qualcomm has agreed to pay $75 million to resolve a lawsuit in which shareholders accused Qualcomm of artificially inflating its share price between February 2012 and January 2017 by refusing to license standard essential patents to certain competitors and in some cases, it made buying its chips a requirement to get a deal.
In January 2017, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Apple also sued Qualcomm separately in connection with its alleged efforts to monopolize the market for baseband processors
Apple said Qualcomm used its monopoly position to overcharge for chips and seek onerous and costly terms for technology licenses.
Qualcomm largely won those battles, with the Apple lawsuits ending in settlements and regulators’ actions largely being overturned as Qualcomm’s stock price rose as a result.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Series to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 instead of Samsung Exynos 2500
Acc. to Analyst and famous Apple Leaker Ming-Chi Kuo, Qualcomm will likely be the sole SoC supplier for the Samsung Galaxy S25 series coming in 2025.
With the Galaxy S24 series, Snapdragon chips were used in 40% of the model wherein the Galaxy S24 Ultra was equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 irrespective of the region
Samsung Exynos 2500 or the Dream Chip may not be able to ship in the Galaxy S25 series due to low yield issues and very little time left now, approx just 6 months, to make the yields better
Thus to prevent a disaster like Exynos 2200, Samsung might delay the Dream chip release manufactured on its 3nm GAA architecture
Note: Take this news with a grain of salt because there are still very less chances that the yield might increase in this less time and Exynos 2500 would debut with the Galaxy S25 series only

US government sues Adobe for ‘deceiving’ subscriptions that are too hard to cancel
The lawsuit alleges Adobe hides the terms of its annual, paid monthly plan in the “fine print and behind optional textboxes and hyperlinks,” because of which they do not properly disclose the early termination fee incurred upon cancellation “that can amount to hundreds of dollars.”
Customers who try to cancel experience difficulties such as navigating through multiple webpages and pop-ups, and dropped calls or disconnected chats. The lawsuit also targets two Adobe executives, Maninder Sawhney (sales), as well as David Wadhwani (digital media).
Adobe trapped customers into year-long subscriptions through hidden early termination fees and numerous cancellation hurdles. Americans are tired of companies hiding the ball during subscription signup and then putting up roadblocks when they try to cancel.

New Linux malware is controlled through emojis sent from Discord
A new Linux malware named 'DISGOMOJI' has been discovered, targeting Indian government agencies. Linked to a Pakistan-based threat actor 'UTA0137', it uses Discord and emojis for command and control (C2). The malware targets the custom Linux distribution BOSS, used by Indian government agencies.
It was found in a UPX-packed ELF executable within a ZIP archive, likely distributed via phishing emails. Upon execution, it displays a PDF lure, a beneficiary form from India's Defence Service Officer Provident Fund and downloads additional payloads including DISGOMOJI and 'uevent_seqnum.sh' to steal data. Using the open-source project discord-c2, it connects to a Discord server, awaiting emoji commands to exfiltrate data and steal credentials.
DISGOMOJI listens for new messages in the command channel on the Discord server. C2 communication takes place using an emoji-based protocol where the attacker sends commands to the malware by sending emojis to the command channel, with additional parameters following the emoji where applicable. While DISGOMOJI is processing a command, it reacts with a “Clock” emoji in the command message to let the attacker know the command is being processed. Once the command is fully processed, the “Clock” emoji reaction is removed and DISGOMOJI adds a “Check Mark Button” emoji as a reaction to the command message to confirm the command was
executed.
Man Sues Apple after Wife Finds 'Deleted' iMessages and Divorces Him
If you're cheating on your wife with prostitutes and she finds out, it's probably best to apologize and see if there's a way to save your marriage. Or you could sue Apple.
A man in England has sued Apple for £5 million because his wife found out about his philandering via the family iMac.
The man was soliciting sex workers over iMessage. He then deleted the texts from his iPhone to hide his tracks.
But the man's messages didn't disappear from the iMac, and his wife found them.
She filed for divorce, which ultimately cost the man more than £5 million. And he now wants Apple to pick up the tab.
His lawsuit claims that iMessage doesn't make it clear that deleting a message on the iPhone doesn't delete the message everywhere else.
The man wants to establish a class-action lawsuit for other men who don't know how to work their phones and lack introspection. He should have used WhatsApp instead

Qualcomm Acknowledges Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 is Snapdragon 695 in disguise
Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 recently but it was just an improved or a rebranded Snapdragon 695.
Even the part number of both the SoCs is same i.e SM-6375
Now, Qualcomm has confirmed that Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 isn’t a new design. "Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 is an enhanced version of Snapdragon 695 delivering improved CPU, GPU, and AI performances"
Aside from just a 100Mhz or 0.1Ghz bump in clock speed for the CPU, Qualcomm has also improved the GPU and AI stuff in ways it has chosen, NOT to detail the changes any further.
But relaunching a 3-year-old chipset under a different name is a great way to confuse people even more than the convoluted naming scheme has already made them.
Motorola G85 will be the first device to be powered by Snapdragon 6s Gen 3.
Previous Motorola smartphones like the Moto G84, G82, G71s, G71, G62, G Stylus, and Edge 30 Neo already uses Snapdragon 695 too
