Why Is the Name Wrapper Important?

Before the creation of the Name Wrapper, registrants could create different sub-names under their registered domains. However, these sub-names had limited functionality and could not be widely used in the Web3 space given that they were not NFTs.

Following the introduction of the Name Wrapper, all sub-names are now NFTs and can be used on all NFT platforms. This new smart contract unlocks a new level of utility and functionality for .eth decentralized domain names. It is a significant step towards decentralization in the Web3 ecosystem: to have immutable domain names while allowing users to retain ownership over trustless sub-names.

Now that registered domains, sub-names and Domain Name System (DNS) names can become NFTs, this expands the possibilities of what one can do with .eth NFT domain names.

Extending the list of features, the Name Wrapper provides registrants greater control and personalization that simplifies the domain management process. The first step in utilizing the Name Wrapper is to wrap the sub-names to make them NFTs, giving the domain ownership to this contract as registrants gain control of their fuses. Alternatively, unwrapping a registered domain means burning the ERC-1155 token and regaining control over the original name.

The Benefits of the Name Wrapper for the Web3 Ecosystem

Decentralized identity is a growing area of Web3 and fundamental to the usability of the ecosystem. As such, being able to build and customize through enhanced smart contracts is necessary to make them as usable as possible. The Name Wrapper is the next step to bringing us closer to realizing a true Web3 digital identity. It can contribute to a seamless onboarding experience that helps to boost the mass adoption of Web3 technologies.

What Is Move (Programming Language)?

The Move programming language was initially used to build the Diem blockchain. It was created by the Diem Association, which was a tech consortium backed by Meta. Although the blockchain was eventually discarded, Move is still in use today.

The Move programming language is an executable bytecode language. It implements smart contracts and custom transactions. Move aims to remedy problems arising from other blockchain programming languages, like Solidity. However, the basic goals of achieving digital scarcity and control over digital assets remain the same. Particularly, it also aims to prevent double-spending and enables the holders of digital assets to maintain ownership information.

In doing so, Move maximizes safety while maintaining a streamlined design and significantly lower gas costs than blockchains not built on Move.

How Does the Move Programming Language Work?

Move uses linear logic, meaning resources can only be used once and never copied or implicitly discarded. This allows developers to encode custom resource types that cannot be erased or duplicated and are treated better than others.

Move's static type system is where variables must be defined as a type (a number/word). It protects prioritized resources. Still, they can be used like regular elements and stored in data structures or supplied as values in calculations. Resources are also transparent in modules and hidden from being called up by external sources.

Moreover, modules in Move are flexible and safe since the relationship among modules, resources and procedures is like the relationship among classes, objects and methods in object-oriented programming.

Move can also verify all safety traits on-chain and support off-chain static verification tools. This greatly reduces complexities around on-chain verification. Its design is based on three core decisions:

—> The lack of dynamic dispatch avoids call graph construction and enables static determination of the call site. This allows Move to identify the effects of a procedure call more easily and without additional complexities.

—> Thanks to its modularity, modules can be isolated for functional verification, and they help with abstracting data and localizing critical operations on resources. Safety is guaranteed by encapsulating the module alongside the language's type system, meaning the code outside of a module cannot violate its types. Additionally, by examining isolated modules, it will provide thorough functional verification for significant module invariants.

—> Finally, its limited mutability allows using reference types similar to C++. References are vital to mutate each Move value, and typically the temporary values are created and destroyed within a transcription script. Similar to Rust, Move's bytecode verifier "borrow checks" to confirm at least one mutable reference.

—> Finally, Move rejects programs not following type safety, memory safety and resource safety. Instead, a high-level programming language with a compiler, responsible for checking the properties, can be used. The alternative is a low-level untyped assembly with safety checks.

What Is Name Wrapper?

Name Wrapper is a smart contract that allows all registered ENS names to be converted into NFTs, expanding their customizability.
Creating sub-names has always been possible in ENS and the Name Wrapper builds on this. By allowing sub-names to be made trustless, the owner of the domain name cannot alter the subdomain once it’s been issued.

When an individual purchases a domain name, the owner becomes the registrant of that domain. This gives them the ability to alter the domain and create sub-names through the contract called the registry.

A sub-name is an additional name that can be created under a pre-owned registered domain. Names at any level can have sub-names created under them, and the Name Wrapper supports wrapping them and giving control over them to separate owners.

For instance, John Johnson owns a domain name, john.eth, and he wants to create sub-names for his partner Alice. John could create alice.johnson.eth — with its special permissions.

By wrapping all domains as ERC-1155 tokens, registrants can better customize their registered domains and sub-names to their needs by granting or revoking different permissions. These permissions are known as fuses.
All wrapped names come with standard and customizable built-in fuses, in which registrants have full access to all the registered domain and sub-name fuses. If registrants would like, they can burn these fuses thereby changing these permissions depending on their goals and needs for the domain name.

Name Wrapper and Expanded Use Case

The Name Wrapper takes .eth names from simple wallet name identities to tokens with varied purposes. These include building out such token-gated sub-names and renting sub-names for a fixed price. Sub-names can now be used by NFT artists as tokens issued to contributors, as well as by event organizers as tickets and proof of identity.

Similar is the use of wrapped names for airdrop distribution and community building. Projects can widely distribute multiple sub-names to community members while adjusting the permissions and ownership of the names as needed.

What Is a Mutual Credit Line?

Mutual credit functions as a decentralized exchange network where internally created money serves as a medium of exchange. It operates within a closed system where deposits balance total deficits, maintaining equilibrium and preserving the value of money. Each unit of currency in circulation is necessary to settle debts within the network, fostering mutual reliance and eliminating the stigma of debt.

Credit lines within mutual credit networks are allocated to members in the network's currency, enabling them to spend within predefined limits. These lines allow members to purchase goods or services from one another, creating negative balances in their accounts. Repayment occurs when members sell goods or services to others in the network, reducing their negative balance.

Why Are Mutual Credit Lines Needed?

Credit line issuance methods vary among networks, ranging from traditional credit assessments to alternative measures like trust-based evaluations. Mutual credit lines democratize access to credit, spreading the risk of default across the network. In case of default, the system deviates from equilibrium, which can be rectified by purchasing excess currency units or providing equivalent value.

The need for mutual credit lines arises from the difficulty faced by certain groups, such as freelancers and micro-entrepreneurs, in accessing credit through traditional channels. By decentralizing credit issuance, mutual credit empowers resource-rich but cash-poor communities, stimulating economic activity and fostering value growth. In contrast to centralized economies where credit issuance favors certain entities, mutual credit promotes equitable distribution of credit and currency issuance rewards.

In a market where potential gains remain largely untapped, it's crucial to assess how participants are reacting. To do this effectively, we can utilize various SOPR metrics, which gauge the average extent of realized profit or loss within different groups.

🟠 Market Average SOPR: 1.13 (indicating a profit increase of 13%)

🔵 Long-Term Holder-SOPR: 2.07 (showing a substantial profit surge of 107%)

🔴 Short-Term Holder-SOPR: 1.02 (reflecting a modest profit uptick of 2%)

Currently, all participant groups are capitalizing on significant realized profits, a trend commonly seen in a bullish market (highlighted in 🟧). Additionally, we've identified periods where all three SOPR variants surpass their previous values (marked in 🟥). These occurrences coincide with the peak euphoria stages of both the 2017 and 2021 bull markets, mirroring insights from MVRV analysis.
