⚡️ Larken Rose tests new AI Chatbot Waking People Up To Statism

Larken Rose released a new Chatbot, trained from his 'Candles In The Dark' video series. If you remember, those videos gave anarchists & voluntaryists conversational tools to approach new people with these ideas in a non-violent way.
Now this chatbot does the same thing, I had some fun chatting with it this morning and pretending to be a staunch statist. It was very patient with me and stuck to the line of questioning that would help someone realize that government is immoral.
Warning - it may use big tech models like ChatGPT under the hood, but still a damn good use of AI.

⚡️A Shortcut To Zero-EMF Household?

Recently, I spent a good amount of money and time wiring my home up for ethernet. Thanks to the @takebackourtech_chat - I became aware of something called Powerline Networking, which is using existing home wiring to transport ethernet. You can attach adapters to wall sockets which have ethernet ports.

The main pro is convienience, and surprisingly powerline network can work up to distances of 900ft - however there will be performance degradation.
Cons:
- You can get lots of interference depending on the wiring, you start notificing this at more than 50 feet
- All sockets have to belong to one continuous wiring set
- They need to plug directly into the wall
- Speeds are cut significantly
- Only half duplex speeds
Still - its an intriguing option for anyone who wants to get wired results without putting in a lot of investment.

Happy New Year's Eve & Happy New Year! This year has been filled with ups and downs and personal challenges for me. There were a number of things that I would have liked to do better like produce more content for #TBOT but looking back over the past year I'm still amazed at the things that transpired. I'm spending the last day of 2023 reflecting and thanking the Universe for the people & opportunities its brought into my life.

⚡️Who Invented Email?

I was recently introduced to the work of V.A Shiva Ayyadurai, systems scientist, outspoken activist and the inventor of email at 14 years old. He was the first to coin the term in 1978 and create an email system based it on the inter-organizational paper-based mail system that used pneumatic tubes. Its from this system where we adopted the email headers From/To/CC.
His copyright for email was recognized in 1982, which I was able to find on the US Copyright Office database.
In 1971 Raymond Tomlinson was working on the Department of Defense's ARPANET, later on he received credit for creating email.
From Dr. Shiva's site:
John Vittal, one of Tomlinson's contemporaries and another "internet pioneer," unequivocally described these early simple systems as rudimentary and incomplete:
“The very simple systems [including] SNDMSG... did not integrate the reading and creation functions, had different user interfaces, and did not provide sufficient functionality for simple message processing.” [John Vittal, 1981]
Tomlinson, by his own admission, said his modification was a "no brainer." Fourteen-year-old Shiva Ayyadurai, in contrast, wrote 50,000 lines of original software code that implemented numerous features and functions to replicate the entire interoffice mail system, with a very easy-to-use-interface enabling anyone to use the system. This is email --- the email we all know and experience today.
This is not to say that someone else would not have created email, given the march of technology history to integrate computing with office automation. However, the fact remains, Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai was the first to do it. The conflation of Tomlinson's modification to SNDMSG as "email," is a deliberate marketing campaign to enhance the brand value and reputation of Tomlinson's employer, Raytheon/BBN, in the lucrative cybersecurity market (see below).
What do y'all think? I'm quite a fan of him and how he fought for his creations and how outspoken he is on corruption. He was kicked out of India for exposing the main scientific body, and he has been calling out false prophets like Elon Musk, Tucker Carlson, Trump which is a move I applaud.

Dear Freedom Movement: Donald Trump is Not a Friend of Liberty
Trump supporters continue to believe the former President is the only defense against rising techno-tyranny even as he makes it abundantly clear he is not a champion of individual liberty.
Are we truly on the verge of a 2nd American Civil War, as the corporate media has claimed for the last several years? Or, are we being manipulated to believe in the potential for a Civil War via predictive programming and useful idiots disguised as news anchors?
Now, I am not one to shout about Civil War being on the horizon, and I have been critical of those who have done so in the past 8 years. However, the reality is that many Trump supporters are completely convinced Donald Trump is the only thing standing in the way of the implementation of a Fascist New World Order. Trump supporters see the ruling from the Colorado Supreme Court as simply the latest in a long line of attacks on the one person they believe has a chance at stopping the march towards tyranny.
Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. Anyone who has watched the last 8 years with an open mind and critical thinking knows that Trump has long been exposed as an enemy of liberty. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, many indy media outlets, content creators, and journalists have opted for turning a blind eye to Trump’s most egregious actions.

Human Rights Watch Says Israel Is Using Starvation as Weapon of War
HRW says the Israeli tactic is a war crime
Human Rights Watch released a report on Monday that said Israel is committing a war crime in Gaza by using starvation as a weapon of war against civilians.
HRW said Israeli forces are “deliberately blocking the delivery of water, food, and fuel, while willfully impeding humanitarian assistance, apparently razing agricultural areas, and depriving the civilian population of objects indispensable to their survival.”
The report pointed to comments from Israeli officials expressing their aim to deprive Palestinian civilians of food and other basic necessities. At the beginning of the onslaught, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced a “complete siege” on the already-blockaded Gaza Strip and said the Israeli military was fighting “human animals.”
Israel has since allowed limited aid deliveries through Gaza’s border crossing with Egypt, but HRW said the amount of aid is “at grossly insufficient levels.” UN officials have said the increased Israeli military operations in south Gaza have made relief efforts impossible.

⚡️The Difference Between Suspend & Hibernate

Have you ever used the suspend feature on your Linux laptop? You may have noticed the option to hibernate as well.
These power management processes are handled by ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface), a n open standard used for power management across Windows and Linux PCs.
There's a subtle difference between hibernate and suspend. During suspend the computer will save its memory to RAM while cutting off power to most of the machine. The computer will use a tiny amount of battery power.
In hibernate, the complete machine state is saved to the disk, typically in a swap file. This method fully powers off a computer. When you turn it back on the state is restored from a disk, and you go through the computer's bootloader. With hibernate you need to make sure you have a big enough swap file to handle the full potential size of the computer's state. Many people recommend 1.5x the size of RAM.
Waking up from a suspended state is going to be faster than hibernation, however the computer can stay in hibernate longer without battery.

In March 2014, Jeffrey Epstein took his private jet to Seattle to visit Bill Gates at his office. Epstein brought along a Polish model he had met a few months earlier. Dressed in a long gray coat, she posed for a photo with the Microsoft co-founder. Epstein took the picture.
Looking at the photograph now brings back difficult memories for the Polish model, who was then in her 20s. She notes how young she looks at the time. And how strange she must have appeared to Gates and other famous people that Epstein was escorting her to meet.

⚡️Mirotalk SFU - A High Quality FOSS Jitsi Competitor?

I recently came across MiroTalk SFU, a self-hosted video/audio conferencing software. Developed by Miroslav Pejic, Mirotalk SFU uses WebRTC for real-time a/v streaming and an SFU (Selective Forwarding Unit) architecture.
There are 2 version of the app. A P2P version of the app where browsers connect directly to each other, and the more standard SFU version where a media server is responsible for collecting and distributing a real time stream from each participant.
It already has features like:
- Resolution up to 4K, up to 60 fps speeds
- Echo cancellation / noise supression
- Screen sharing
- Built in chat and reactions
- Collaborative whiteboard
- File sharing
- Video / audio sharing
- Livestreaming in the browser
The public server also allows for 'anonymous' calls without any registration or sign in, something which Jitsi had recently removed due to abuse of the public service.
We've always ran a Jitsi server as part of our professionally hosted privacy services Above Suite (https://abovephone.com/suite), and Mirotalk could be a great addition to this.

⚡️Why I'm Changing My Name

TLDR; - I'm Ramiro no longer, my new name is Hakeem Anwar.
We come into this world with a few decisions already made for us. The newly birthed child knows nothing of the soil beneath their tiny feet, ignorant of their ancestors struggle to bring them into this world, nor a single word from their language, yet with grace they are chosen to receive their culture.
As I've learned more about my family, I know our past few generations migrated often and I was no exception. I immigrated to the United States as a young boy. Like many other immigrants my parents gave up their affluent lifestyle and accolades, starting over from almost nothing. They sacrificed so I would have a better life.
Raised Muslim with dark skin during 9/11 and the war on terror did not make it easier. Even though I lived in a progressive area with lots of diversity, it was impossible to avoid the hate. There were those few who tried to make me ashamed of who I was and where I came from.
At the same time, my moderate parents let me be free to immerse myself with friends in this new Western culture, something I am grateful for yet pushed even further past their boundaries as a contrarian with a rebellious streak. Caught between these two cultures, its no wonder it took me a long time to find my identity, something I am reshaping even today.
But I don't think I am alone in reshaping identity. We are collectively detaching from the culture that values deceit over truth, veneer over substance, war over peace, and fear over love. Instead are developing a shared culture that esteems the latter.
It matters less what country you're from or what language you speak. What's important is that you get to choose the person who you become. You get to choose your culture, perhaps honoring existing traditions or incorporating new philosophies that resonate with you.
When I started doing this work, I stepped out of my second Western culture and stepped into a new one. This included a name I picked in haste, maybe to protect me, or maybe to purposefully separate myself from roots I was unsure about.
That name has served me well - but I've grown out of it now. As I've discovered more about my roots and my family, finding love for my grandfather I never got to meet, and learning about ideas in my culture that resonate with me, I feel ready to step into a new chapter with a new name.
With this name comes a grander mission, a greater vision, and a commitment to live up to the name. From now on I'll go by Hakeem Anwar. I look forward to sharing with you what it means and who I'm modeling myself after. It'll take me some time to update it across all of our projects, and I appreciate you supporting this shift.
I know that we are all stepping into our higher purpose. Things are going to change. Your work, your skills, your mindset, you might even be crazy enough to change your name. Change what you need to change - everything is on the table.
Aspire to be the person you want to be. The world depends on it.

A phenomenon emerged in which disgruntled citizens started taking out their frustration on the ‘spying cameras’ – about a thousand cameras have been damaged or stolen over the last year alone.
That should give the authorities pause and make them rethink the strategy – but have they? NO.
It arises now that London Mayor Khan has hired a ‘goon squad of thugs – aggressive men dressed in black, with face tattoos and wearing skeleton balaclavas – to oppress the citizens in order to allegedly protect his hated ULEZ cameras while filming everything with body cameras.
The Transit for London agency (TfL) claims that the guards are held to ‘high standards of professionalism’ and that they were necessary to protect ULEZ cameras from the so-called ‘Blade Runners’.
Self-proclaimed ‘freedom fighters’, the ‘Blade Runners’ have channeled the widespread hatred for the expanded ULEZ, and have been successfully targeting the cameras, gaining something of a folk hero status by a sympathetic population.

💻 Next Edition of Above Book

We launched Above Book a few months ago to a select group of customers with the intention of using a highly advanced operating system Arch Linux. We really desired to make Arch accessible to people and made great use of Arch's package helpers like (yay), as well as integrations with GUI based software stores like Discover, and our simplification of maintenance tasks using scripts.
For some people this worked out - but there were also others who struggled to get used to Arch Linux and maintain their system without outside support. Hearing all the response and feedback from real world users has been invaluable and given me reason to pursue a slightly more plug-and-play option.
This new option will be based on Debian and offer close to the same features, look & feel, and curated software. Already working with it I see that there are many things that Arch simply does better thanks to its community based packaging, like the availability and accessibility of different software and being able to install it in a single command.
If I've learned anything from the years of using Linux systems is that there's always fun strengths and weaknesses inherent to every distribution. The important part is giving people the Freedom of Choice so they can pick what fits them.
When this new version is released and Above Book goes back on sale - you will have the option to pick the more advanced OS based on Arch Linux, or the simpler edition based on Debian. Additionally people who were having a difficult time should be able to migrate over to the simpler OS.
One thing is certain, people want to use friendly technology on their computers and we now have the chance to bring it to the masses.
