🔴The Great Bath is a remarkable example of the Harappans' advanced urban planning and engineering skills. It likely served ritualistic or communal purposes.

❇️India has released its first official estimate of Gangetic dolphins, recording 6,327 individuals in the Ganga and its tributaries.
❇️The study, conducted using acoustic hydrophones and triangulation techniques, was officially made public on World Wildlife Day by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
❇️The survey provides a baseline for conservation efforts, but experts note that previous population estimates used different methods, making historical comparisons difficult.

🔥Total recorded dolphins: 6,327, including 6,324 Gangetic dolphins and 3 Indus river dolphins.
⭕️Regional distribution:
👉Ganga main stem – 3,275 dolphins
👉Ganga tributaries – 2,414 dolphins
👉Brahmaputra main stem – 584 dolphins
👉Brahmaputra tributaries – 412 dolphins

🔴Unlike land animals like tigers or elephants, dolphins are difficult to count due to their underwater habitat and sporadic surfacing.

👉Researchers used boats traveling at a constant speed to detect dolphin movements.
👉Acoustic hydrophones (underwater microphones) picked up sounds emitted by dolphins.
👉Triangulation methods ensured accurate counting and avoided double-counting.

👉Earlier surveys used different methodologies, making it difficult to determine if the dolphin population has increased or declined over time.

👉Major threats to Gangetic dolphins:
