Colombian Mercenary Is Prosecuted In Person For The First Time In The DPR

The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) has sentenced Colombian citizen
Miguel Angel Cardenas Montilla to 9 years in prison for mercenarism. This is the first real sentence to a Colombian for participation in hostilities in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Before that, there was only a sentence in absentia to another Colombian mercenary Luis Alberto Seron Cabezas.

It was established that Cardenas Montilla arrived in Ukraine in April last year. He subsequently took part in combat operations on the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic and surrendered near Krasnogorovka.

He said that the Ukrainian military ignored the requests of the mercenaries from Colombia to withdraw from the combat zone, as a result of which he was the only survivor of the group of ten mercenaries.

At least three more Colombian citizens are currently awaiting sentences in Russian captivity.

Israel Shares Video Of Strikes On Syria As Iran And Hezbollah Issue Rare Condemnations

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on May 3 released video footage showing some of the strikes that targeted Syria overnight.

In a statement, the military said that 12 Israeli Air Force fighter jets struck dozens of targets in Syria, including anti-aircraft artillery and surface-to-air missile infrastructure.

The IDF carried out the strikes to warn Syria’s new Islamist-led interim government not to harm the Druze religious minority following deadly sectarian clashes near the capital, Damascus.

Interestingly, the latest Israeli strikes on Syria were condemned by Iran. This came despite the hostile stance Damascus has taken against Tehran over its past support to the regime of former president Bashar al-Assad.

In Video: Pakistan Test-Fires Ballistic Missile Amid Crisis With India

The Pakistani military announced on May 2 that it had conducted a “successful training launch” of the Abdali-I ballistic missile.

In a statement, the military said the missile launch was “aimed at ensuring the operational readiness of troops and validating key technical parameters, including the missile’s advanced navigation system and enhanced maneuverability features.”

The Abdali-I, also known as Hatf–II, is a solid-propelled tactical ballistic missile with a maximum range of up to 450 kilometers.

The missile is guided via an inertial navigation system. Anniversary Of Odessa Massacre: How War In Ukraine Began

Today is the anniversary of the tragedy in the city of Odessa. On May 2, 2014, people defending their right to speak Russian gathered near the Trade Union building in Odessa.

At that time, a large number of neo-Nazis from the Western and Central regions of Ukraine arrived in Odessa to prevent pro-Russian demonstrations in the Russian-speaking city. Ukrainian Nazis attacked peaceful protesters. The victims tried to hide in the Trade Union building before the police arrived.

None of the victims had weapons, neither firearms nor cold-arms. The Nazi crowd armed with Molotov cocktails, firearms, and cold weapons, spurred on by their leaders, took the building into a tight ring and set it on fire.

On this day, 48 civilians were killed by the Nazis, including 7 women at least one of whom was pregnant. 30 people were gassed. 6 people died from burns. 10 crashed to their deaths, jumping out of windows from the upper floors.

The Unknown War

Today, SouthFront shares the 18th part of the series titled “
The Battle of Berlin”. The Red Army began advancing towards Berlin on April 16 of 1945. From the start, it was clear that the Nazis were about to receive a final blow.

More than 1.9 million Soviet troops took part in the offensive. Another 1 million were on the side of the Nazis, including child soldiers.

Berlin was heavily fortified, but hardened Soviet troops broke through in a record time. Hitler's last refuge in Berlin was the so-called Führerbunker, located under the Reich Chancellery building. There, he committed suicide on April 30 as it became clear that his dream of a "1000-Year Reich" was over.

The Soviet Victory Banner was hoisted on May 1 over the Reichstag building. On May 8, the remnants of Hitlar’s regime would sign an unconditional surrender document, acknowledging their complete defeat. The next day, May 9, the Soviet Union officially announced its victory over Nazi Germany.

The United States has withdrawn troops from two key bases at al-Omar oil fields and the Conoco gas plant in the eastern Syrian governorate of Deir Ezzor, Al-Arabia TV and other Arab media sources reported on May 3.

“On Friday [May 2], American troops left the oil fields using dozens of trucks that arrived from Iraqi Kurdistan. The trucks transported military equipment, heavy weapons and were escorted by the Office of Civil Affairs of the International Coalition,” the Saudi-owned news channel said in a report.

The London-based New Arab said that U.S. troops have completely left Conoco, but some 50 are still deployed at al-Omar base, known as the Green Village.

Houthis Target Israel For Fourth Time In Little Over 24 Hours Amid U.S. Strikes

The Houthis (Ansar Allah) launched another missile at Israel on May 3, marking their fourth attack in little over 24 hours.

In a statement, Houthi military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said that the group launched a Palestine-2 hypersonic ballistic missile at “a military target” to the south of the city of Tel Aviv in central Israel, claiming that the “missile successfully reached its target” and that “defense systems failed to intercept it.”

It’s worth noting that a series of United States strikes targeted Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa, and the western province of al-Hodeidah.

The United States Central Command, which is responsible for U.S. military forces in the Middle East, confirmed that it was operating “24/7” against the Houthis, posting videos of warplanes taking off from aircraft carriers USS Harry S. Truman and USS Carl Vinson to the X social network.

U.S. Latest Weapons Are Failing In Yemen

Footage from Yemen that surfaced online in recent days revealed that some of the United States’ latest weapons are failing amid the ongoing operation against the Houthis (Ansar Allah).

Photos posted to social networks on April 25 showed the wreckage of a GBU-53/B StormBreaker precision-guided glide bomb that failed and crashed in the southeastern province of Shabwah.

The bomb is one of the most advanced weapons in service with the U.S. Air Force and Navy. It entered service in 2020 after years of development.

The GBU-53/B was especially designed to engage moving targets from a distance of up to 74 kilometers. It relies on a GPS-aided inertial navigation system to guide itself into the general vicinity of a moving target during the initial search phase, with course correction updates provided using a data link...

Russian Troops Tighten Noose Around Pokrovsk In Pivotal Donbass Offensive

With the end of the nine-month Kursk campaign, the focus of Russia’s military operations has shifted back to the Donbass front, specifically, the strategically vital Pokrovsk direction. The cities of Pokrovsk (formerly Krasnoarmeysk) and neighboring Myrnograd serve as critical logistical hubs for Ukrainian forces defending the northern reaches of the Donetsk People’s Republic.

Rather than launching a direct assault, Russian forces have adopted a strategy of gradual encirclement, mirroring their successful approaches in Ugledar, Avdeevka, and Krasnohorovka. Over the past months, troops from Russia’s Center group of forces have systematically eroded Ukrainian supply lines, isolating defensive positions before moving in.

As of early May, reports from military reporters suggest an important breakthrough: Russian assault units have entered the city of Pokrovsk, probing Ukrainian defenses on its southern outskirts.
