In the United States, the richest country in the world, hundreds of thousands of homeless people live in conditions of extreme marginalization. Without protection, often criminalized for the mere fact of existing, they are forced to survive on the streets while many states adopt punitive measures against them, banning essential activities such as sleeping or eating in public places. The reportage by Angelo Loy, Martino Mazzonis and Luigi Montebello crosses the south of the USA, from Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi to Louisiana, aboard buses, the only means of transport accessible to the poorest. A raw and necessary story, which gives voice to those who resist despite police violence, social hostility and the indifference of the institutions. To accompany these stories, an exceptional contribution: Tom Waits, who returns to play after years of absence from the stage. Exclusively for The Human Factor, the famous artist interprets some poems taken from "Seeds on Hard Ground", offering a poetic and intense counterpoint to an America that he would rather not look at.
