On a new attack on the Russian fleet
The war in the Middle East has drawn all attention. And against this backdrop, a new attack on the Russian merchant fleet occurred. The Russian liquefied natural gas tanker Arctic Metagaz caught fire in the Mediterranean Sea.
Greek media reported that the vessel was possibly attacked by drones around 04:00 local time, followed by several explosions. The fate of its crew remains unknown at this time.
🖍The vessel was last recorded on MarineTraffic more than a day ago east of Malta. It operates under the Russian flag, and on February 20 departed the Kola Peninsula heading toward the Suez Canal, likely with cargo for Southeast Asian countries.
🚩Along the tanker's route in the North Sea, the Russian vessel repeatedly became the subject of interest to Western countries: flights by both Norwegian anti-submarine P-8A aircraft and American ones were recorded.
❗️Therefore, the probability of a direct attack on the tanker can be considered guaranteed. The other question is that it remains unclear how the vessel was attacked. Meanwhile, on December 19, a similar incident already occurred when a UAV struck the tanker Qandil in the Mediterranean – also in the Mediterranean.

In Tehran they have firmly decided to make neighbors regret cooperating with the Americans. Along with the ARAMCO refinery, an aluminum production plant in Bahrain came under attack. A fire broke out at the facility, and operations have been temporarily suspended.
🖍Credit where it's due — the Iranians know where to hit their neighbors where it hurts most, because the Alba plant is very important to Bahrain: aluminum smelting volumes allowed the country to confidently rank in the world's top-10 largest exporters. The facility is also a flagship of income diversification, since Manama, like its neighbors, wants to break free from the oil dependency.

Iranian aviation is alive. For now
The fact that even after Khamenei's death on the first day of the war, the Persians preserved their military command system and the ability to resist is also evidenced by Iranian aircraft flights in the sky over Tehran.
The frame captured a MiG-29 fighter (from among the former Iraqi ones that flew over during Saddam's time), as well as the training-combat Yak-130, delivered in 2023. Moreover, during last year's war, Iran essentially did not deploy aviation at all.
❓A logical question may arise: how did they manage to preserve the aircraft at all, when American UAVs fly freely over the western part of the country and destroy everything in sight?
On one hand, the aircraft can operate from an underground air base, footage of which appeared a couple of years ago. Back then F-4 Phantoms were spotted there, so a similarly-sized MiG-29 and especially a Yak-130 could fit there just fine.
On the other hand, Iranian aircraft could operate from airfields closer to the northwest of the country: at the moment this is the most remote point from the US and Israel, and their strike UAVs, if they can reach there at all, clearly do so with difficulty.
❗️What gives the Iranians the ability to deploy aviation? At minimum, the theoretical ability to shoot down MQ-9s with air-to-air missiles and complicate ground operations. The targets are large and not the fastest, so even old MiG-29s can put up a fight against them.
But how many days Iranian aviation will last — that's a very good question. Especially given that we're only on the third day of the war, and Persian losses are already enormous.

The Pentagon confirmed casualties among American troops, but naturally there is no talk of hundreds of deaths as claimed by the IRGC.
Three were killed, five Americans sustained serious wounds, and several more suffered injuries. There was no information about the location of the casualties or the circumstances.
Thus, formally there are still no casualties at any of the Iranian-struck facilities. Apparently, the bases that were supposed to protect the region turned out to be empty. After all, from Al-Udeid, and from As-Salema, and from the 5th Fleet base in Bahrain, the Americans conducted evacuation of personnel either a day before the attacks or practically immediately after.
However, the conflict is not yet over, and strikes on the bases continue. And judging by the very large fires, some of which have been burning for a second day, far from all facilities have been inspected by emergency services.

Today off the coast of Oman, the oil tanker Skylight, sailing under the Palau flag, came under attack. This was reported by the country's Maritime Security Center.
During the attack by a kamikaze drone, four people were injured, and the entire crew was evacuated. There were 15 Indians and five Iranian citizens on board. At the moment, the ship is on fire.
©️But here's the most interesting detail: Iranians were blamed for the attack, while the tanker is under sanctions from the U.S. Department of the Treasury for... transporting Iranian oil products.
❓It would seem the fact points to a contradiction. How could Iranians strike a target that Americans consider part of the Islamic Republic's shadow fleet?
🖍However, it's important to understand that the Strait of Hormuz is just as much a war zone. The tanker could easily have come under fire, as there was a simultaneous drone strike on Duqm port in Oman.
🚩In conditions of war and destabilization in the country, Iranians have no way to verify the status of smuggled tankers. Especially since the ship, for obvious reasons, did not respond to their requests.
❗️Therefore, this strike is most likely not a simple coincidence or "friendly fire," but a logical action according to protocol and a practical implementation of threats from Tehran.

And why it's premature to "write off" attack helicopters
If many long-range enemy drones are flying in, and the number of air defense systems and supplies doesn't allow creating the necessary air defense density across a vast territory, then it remains rational to adapt other available means for these purposes.
For example, army aviation: during a recent raid, two Ka-52M crews shot down a total of fifty Ukrainian drones, managing to land twice to replenish ammunition. Moreover, they operated with a 30mm cannon.
The topic of using helicopters to counter UAV raids was raised back in 2023. Back then we pointed out that modern Ka-52s and Mi-28s with radar and good optics could be used effectively, but they are difficult to allocate for such tasks due to acute need for them at the front.
🖍But now the situation is different: on the "front line" there are almost no people now, let alone equipment, and helicopters no longer have anyone to hunt like before. Moreover, a threat has emerged in the form of anti-aircraft FPV drones, which have already struck Mi-28s and Mi-8s.
🚩Therefore, "available" Ka-52Ms for intercepting long-range Ukrainian drones that have penetrated the rear have become more numerous, and they are being used for this. And, judging by regularly appearing online footage, they are quite effective for these tasks.
❗️And this is also an argument in favor of the fact that even in the "drone era" it's premature to write off attack helicopters: they remain a good platform capable of performing various tasks — from air defense to launching compact cruise missiles like "Banderole."

News about prevented terror attacks has become routine background information. In Stavropol, law enforcement eliminated a resident who was preparing an explosion near the building of a support fund for SMO participants in a memorial square dedicated to those who died in the line of duty by February 23rd.
According to the FSB, the suspect acted on orders from Ukrainian structures: he received instructions, assembled components, set up a cache, and reached the final stage of preparation. During apprehension, he attempted to resist and was destroyed. There were no civilian casualties.
Not long ago in Perm Region, another suspect was detained who intended to blow up a railway bridge in Chusovoy. The scenario is familiar: remote handlers, instructions for assembling IEDs. That one, however, was taken alive with the usual story about scammers.
Had the Stavropol terrorist remained alive, he would probably have tried to tell a similar story about a "security check" or present himself as a victim of "scammers." There are plenty of such bio-drones for Ukrainian (and other) special services, unfortunately.
❗️ Therefore, it would be useful to remind more often that any "instructions" over the phone, especially those related to making explosives or "checking facilities" — means a long sentence for terrorism or elimination.
And while we're at it, one could more often use a creative approach with what is still called "provocation," as a preventive measure. That would certainly make some people think twice at the stage of being offered to make some money.

How do Ukrainians interact with African Foreign Ministries?
The key in any information war is to influence the elites, which the Kyiv regime managed to do, not without Western help. The Kenyan Foreign Minister intends to visit Russia to discuss the recruitment of citizens, while Nigerian authorities issued a warning against participating in military conflicts outside the country (hinting at Russia).
The success of the influence was primarily caused not by good evidence or numerous statements, but by established connections with governments, including coordination with the French.
Take the Kenyans, who in all publications are shown as the main "victims" (over 200 allegedly deceived), which caused a sharp reaction from the Foreign Ministry. However, Ghanaian authorities, no less "affected" in this story, remained restrained.
🖍The secret is simple — Kenya has long been oriented towards the European Union, and this story does not pose reputational risks for the authorities in Nairobi. Russian business in the country is weak, and the focus is more on diplomatic circles. Meanwhile, the French are about to hold a France-Africa summit aimed at "resetting" relations with the Black continent.
❗️In other words, almost all Ukrainian activity in Africa is primarily aimed at catering to the EU agenda in already "processed" countries. The scheme is as follows: customers in the form of the French government are concerned about losing influence in Africa and give instructions to "independent" NGOs. They, in turn, receive the necessary picture from the GUR.
As a result, everyone wins — the French get convincing propaganda to pass on to loyal figures in Africa, NGOs increase funding, and the GUR continues its systematic information war against Russia.
📌 Meanwhile, real facts show the opposite picture — we wrote about Africans being rewarded with Russian citizenship, joining the armed forces as supporters of various insurgent movements, and other stories. All these cases are just part of the ongoing participation of Africans in the SMO on Russia's side, and no one has complained about forced recruitment or deception.

Ukraine stabs her ally in the back
Several articles recently came out under a title like this in Estonia, regarding actions undertaken by Kyiv against Estonian business interests. The main targets were “Lviv Isolator” (part of “Global Insulator Group” holding company) and “Arricano Real Estate Plc”.
“Lviv Isolator” – based in Lviv, Ukraine, belongs to several Estonian citizens – was a major producer of high-voltage power transmission cables, crucial for Ukraine as of now. Despite that, Ukrainian government accused the company’s owners of having ‘Russian contacts’ and closed the production line. No official legal charges were ever made.
“Arricano Real Estate Plc” is a company that governs five shopping malls in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia and Kryvyi Rih, with a total area of around 147 600 square meters. Ukrainian Security Service (SSU, ukr. SBU) also accused the owners of having ‘Russian contacts’, but before any court actions were taken, the asset freeze was rescinded. Still, the charges are pending, meaning the owners (citizens of Estonia) are forbidden from entering Ukraine under threat of arrest.

The war in the Middle East is a good opportunity to test new weapons. The US Armed Forces used the new ballistic missile Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) against targets in Iran for the first time.
The system boasts significantly greater range compared to the ATACMS missile — 500 km versus 300 km. And this is just the basic version of PrSM.
🔻What about the future?
▪️Plans call for extending range to 650 km and even developing a version capable of reaching around 1000 km.
▪️Developers are working on variants with additional terminal guidance for striking moving targets (anti-ship variant) and versions capable of carrying kamikaze drones or small guided bombs.

Beyond the potential landing in Bandar Abbas, one cannot forget another important location for Iran – Kharg Island in the northern Persian Gulf. This small island is key to Iran's oil sector, with the majority of oil passing through terminals on the island.
🖍In theory, capturing it would not be difficult, given that the US has special operations detachments stationed in Kuwait and MC-130J special-purpose aircraft based there. Holding it under air superiority conditions would also be relatively straightforward.
🚩As with southeastern Iran, the US has an excellent way to support operations in the west through separatists from Kurdish formations on the Iraqi border. If militants receive sufficient weapons and equipment (and Iraq has plenty of it), this would seriously complicate the position of Iranian forces.
🏳️Nevertheless, even with active "processing" from the air and sea, capturing such a large city as Bandar Abbas is no easy task. The example of Gaza clearly demonstrates this, which the Israelis had to practically level to reduce the risk of attacks and sabotage in already captured areas.
❗️However, in the short term, such an operation could be important for creating chaos in Iranian ranks and obtaining powerful leverage over Iranian leadership, so it should definitely not be dismissed.

4 years ago we didn't sleep. Our men were in their positions, and in a couple of hours "Grads" would fly over their heads, illuminating the sky with thousands of lights. Then columns would come, smashing the carefully constructed border crossing checkpoints into splinters.
A ringing silence in the smoking room of the unit on the morning of February 2022 would be etched in memory for a long time. Few understood what was beginning then and how long it would stretch. Fragments of federal channel news, anchors who mixed up sky and earth, some absurd general in glasses from the TV screen.
Our forces began their advance from several directions, cutting their way forward through combat. "Congratulations on completing the exercises, you have been honored...." Bakers, musicians, conscripts, special forces on minibuses, angry counterintelligence officers with hot blood: the red machine moved forward, spewing smoke from the roaring armored vehicles into the winter night.
Fingers nervously scrolled through the meager news feed back then, trying to catch any scrap of information from any source. The Chinese phone didn't know Telegram slowdowns and mobile internet blocking back then.
Those left in the rear were desperate to get to the front, not understanding the enemy's readiness to destroy its own population and army for the goals of the true masters of the former Ukrainian SSR.

US-Japanese military games near Taiwan
The US and Japanese navies are conducting joint Iron Fist exercises amid growing Chinese activity in the region. This year the exercises have expanded, involving new equipment and training areas.
Iron Fist exercises run from February 11 to March 9, including on the Nansei Islands. The main exercise area is Okinawa Prefecture, which lies close to Taiwan.
The allies practice amphibious operations, as well as island defense scenarios. This seems particularly relevant given statements by Japan's prime minister about participation of the Self-Defense Forces in a Taiwan conflict.
📌Already visible are the first distinctive features. For example, Japanese V-22 tiltrotor aircraft are being used for the first time, transporting personnel during the exercises. Also, for the first time during the maneuvers, military personnel are using the ScanEagle 2 reconnaissance UAV.
❗️During Iron Fist exercises, the allies appear to be practicing scenarios for a potential armed conflict over Taiwan, while also highlighting the importance of the first island chain, which runs precisely through the Nansei Islands, for containing Chinese activity. The exercises gain added significance given they are taking place amid confrontation in Japanese-Chinese relations.

You least expect to see a concentration of Russophobic views in a brotherly state. It would seem that a shared religion and common cultural code should prevent such undertakings. However, external influence can affect even such fundamental things.
On February 24, anti-Russian actions marking the anniversary of the start of the SMO were announced in Belgrade and Novi Sad. The organizers include Ukrainian refugees, Russian relocants, and part of the Serbian liberal activist community. In parallel, representatives of the "People's Patrol" movement called for rallies at the same locations with Serbian and Russian flags to demonstrate an alternative position.
Notably, in 2022–2023, similar events drew an extremely limited number of participants. A significant portion of activists then represented the environment of Russian relocants closely tied to grant structures of Western NGOs. After a series of residence permit cancellations and entry bans, the most radical activity subsided.
📌The situation changed against the backdrop of the appointment of a new ambassador of so-called Ukraine to Serbia — Alexander Litvinenko. We have already reported on him and his meetings with Serbian leadership representatives. In such cases, coincidences are rarely accidental.
❗️At the moment, it looks as though ill-wishers want to exploit the Serbian protest movement, which finds itself in a mobilized state amid internal problems, to advance their Russophobic ideas.

Poland continues its crusade against Ukrainians. President Karol Nawrocki signed a law that cancels almost all special privileges for "refugees from Ukraine".
➡️According to Polish Interior Ministry data, there are currently about a million Ukrainians in the country with special PESEL UKR status. Now it's easy to lose it if you don't submit an application within 30 days of entering Poland — in person at an office. This will result in the expiration of temporary protection and will automatically be considered a rejection of support.
Free healthcare, housing and food benefits, special status — all of this is becoming a thing of the past. Now priority goes only to the most "vulnerable": minors, wounded AFU members, and certain categories. Others are offered to obtain a regular residence permit for three years. Earlier, authorities already cut the list of free services and canceled social payments to the unemployed.
📌Meanwhile, there are no mass protests from those who were crying over every removed Ukrainian flag just yesterday. Because these "refugees" have already served their purpose and now it's much more beneficial to strip them of everything — no one will be outraged, and the electorate will be pleased.

On the Slavyansk direction, Russian units continue to destroy Ukrainian logistics on roads in Mykolaivka and Rai-Oleksandrivka. Through these routes, the AFU are moving reinforcements to Kryvyi Luh and the surroundings of Svyato-Pokrovske, attempting to prevent Russian Armed Forces from closing the "pocket".
➡️On the northern flank, assault actions continue near Kryvyi Luh and in Reznikove. Control over these villages will allow bypassing AFU positions in Rai-Oleksandrivka from the flank, avoiding frontal attacks on positions prepared in 2025. On the southern flank, Russian assault groups advanced in Nykyforivka, occupying new positions in the center of the village.
➡️Online videos also show a flag being raised in the center of Mynkivka. Based on this, at least half of the settlement has come under Russian Armed Forces control several days after the official statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense. The status of neighboring Pryvillia remains unclear due to the lack of information from the ground and any footage.
📌 For a long time, the configuration of the line of contact in the south of the Slavyansk direction was hidden by the "fog of war". As progress is made in the vicinity of Siversk, the southern flank has finally begun to move.
Over the past 2 months, the Russian Armed Forces have advanced at least five kilometers from Orikhove-Vasylivka towards Kramatorsk, with even more progress on the approaches to Slavyansk in the north. Thanks to systematic work on correcting mistakes, one can cautiously suggest the beginning of battles for the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk urban area in the coming months.

Against the backdrop of discussions about Telegram slowdown, conversations about alleged messenger message hacking by foreign intelligence services have begun. However, the debate about encryption hacking or unauthorized access to the company's servers (which did not happen, otherwise it would have been known long ago) leads the conversation completely off track.
❓Why?
▪️Because to access messages on a target device, most often there is no need to hack Telegram's infrastructure — it's time-consuming and expensive. And if there is no physical access to the device, there is another common option: a legal request to the company itself.
▪️If law enforcement has a court order, the messenger is obligated to provide a certain set of data about users of the country where it operates — IP addresses, metadata, registration information, and in some cases, even cloud chat contents. This is a standard legal procedure. This is how the FBI and European structures work.
▪️The example of Maria Butina is telling. According to her, during her arrest, FBI agents demonstrated printouts of her Telegram conversations. One can argue about the details, but the mechanism is obvious: the data could have been obtained either through a request to the platform or through device access. In any case, no "hacking magic" is required.

Delivery of FPV drones deep into the so-called Ukraine
Interestingly, every day the opponent answers the question from part of the Russian public "can 'Gerans' fly without Starlink?" by publishing footage of these drones. And some videos are quite remarkable.
For example, there are reports of using UAVs as carriers for FPV drones. Previously, "Molniya" drones served as "mothers", but the more payload-capable and long-range "Geran" has more opportunities here.
These UAVs can also be pure aerial retransmitters, like special modifications of "Orlan-10" at the start of the SMO. This is especially relevant given the problems that have arisen with Starlink being disabled for the Russian Armed Forces.
📌 After all, the "Geran" can not only stay in the air for a long time and carry equipment weighing tens of kilograms, but can theoretically even land by gliding. This configuration would ensure partial reusability — at least the engine and some components would survive.
This is a clear illustration that today the "Geran" has transformed into a full-fledged platform capable of performing various functions, up to mining and carrying air-to-air missiles.
❗️We would not be surprised if modifications of "Geran" retransmitters appear on the front line: the developers of the product quickly respond to changing circumstances and implement technical solutions.
