Judge revives plea deals for alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and others
A military judge upheld plea agreements for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two co-defendants, overriding Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's attempt to void the deals, according to AP.
This decision allows the defendants to potentially enter guilty pleas in Guantanamo Bay without risking the death penalty.
The plea deals, approved by the military commission’s top official, could mark a significant step in concluding the 9/11 prosecution.

Hamas comments on Trump’s election win
The group has urged incoming President Donald Trump’s administration to “work seriously to stop the war” in Gaza.
Hamas also said the “new US administration must realize that our Palestinian people will continue to resist the hateful [Israeli] occupation and will not accept any path that detracts from their legitimate rights to freedom, independence, self-determination, and the establishment of their independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.”
This statement follows a report that Trump asked Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to conclude the conflict before his Jan. 20 inauguration.

Before the party, Dodik held a presser in Republika Srpska’s administrative center and gave a celebratory speech while wearing one of Trump’s MAGA red baseball caps.
“For Republika Srpska and me personally, Trump’s victory symbolizes a return to values we hold dear—family, freedom of choice, and the right to preserve one’s traditions,” Dodik said.

I don’t have hopes that Trump will act pro-Russian — Viktor Bout
According to the Russian legislator, Washington's foreign policy towards Russia remains hostile regardless of which major political party is in power.
He argues that the Republicans and Democrats are fundamentally anti-Russian, citing Trump's previous sanctions and seizures of Moscow’s diplomatic assets as evidence.
Bout insists that Russia will continue to defend its interests, particularly in the Ukraine conflict, regardless of who is in the White House.

Women’s group demands Algerian boxer’s gold medal taken away after leaked ‘make characteristics’ report
A women’s rights group has called for Imane Khelif’s Olympic gold medal to be revoked following a yet unconfirmed report suggesting she has 'male characteristics' and XY chromosomes, and thus is ‘biologically male’.
Khelif, who won gold in Paris amid a gender eligibility dispute, had previously been barred from the 2023 Women's World Boxing Championships but was cleared to compete by the IOC.
Her win stirred further controversy after her opponent retired early, reportedly due to an unusually strong punch. The Independent Council on Women’s Sport is now demanding her medal be revoked.

Kremlin responds to claim of ‘secret’ Trump congratulations
The Kremlin has denied reports suggesting that Russian President Vladimir Putin has secretly congratulated Donald Trump on his US election win, describing the claim as unreliable and inaccurate. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Thursday that he had “no knowledge” of any congratulatory message from Putin to Trump.
Peskov’s statement follows a report from an anonymous Western-funded media outlet alleging that Moscow had already sent a private congratulatory message to the US President-elect.
Peskov did not rule out the possibility of a direct conversation between Trump and Putin before the US President-elect takes office in January. “He [Trump] said he would call Putin before the inauguration. Here are his words, we have nothing else to say yet,” Peskov explained to reporters.

How will the new Trump administration look?
During his campaign, Donald Trump surrounded himself with unorthodox figures, floating some of them for top administration positions and giving them free rein to implement sweeping reforms.
Elon Musk, RFK Jr., and Tulsi Gabbard are just a few names that ring a bell - but will they have a shot at government positions, and will Trump finally ‘drain the swamp’?
