Mohammed Baharoon: 'If the dollar becomes too difficult to use, people will simply switch to OTHER currencies'
'Even China is one of the biggest investors in US bonds. The US dollar continues to be a trusted currency by many people in the markets.
When I said it's a two-way street, I didn't mean that the UAE is going to tariff the US. It meant that what used to be a good market for the US could become a difficult market for the UAE, and then it will have to look for other markets. And I think this is pretty much where the world is right now.
If we're talking about resilience, and that's one of the major themes in the summit in Delhi, that's again what we went through in the UAE during the war.
I don't think it's going to be a different dynamic, whether it's a strait or whether it's a currency.'

'In the GCC we have a country like Kuwait, who has pegged its currency to a basket of currencies. It is pegged to the dollar, the euro, the Japanese yen. So there are examples of this, and we haven't seen the US bring its wrath on Kuwait, for instance.
If you remember when the EU started their own currency, it was at the point where the world was unipolar, and there was a need for resilience. That's why it was supposed to be a currency that balances the world. So again, it is a different currency.
The US now is investing in crypto, because they understand that, as AI continues, this might be the way forward.'

'There is a major effect out of this war, possibly a change in Russia's view that traditional power, military power, is not going to be enough alone. This is why, and even that was part of the Alaska summit between Putin and Trump.
It was an attempt to move away from a world where only nuclear powers are battling it against each other, to one where an economic collaboration could happen between the two powers.
This is the lesson Russia has learned, not from the conflict, but from China. China became a far more relevant country to the whole world economy because of its investment in the economy, but Russia did not do that yet. And that is the lesson that has been learned.'
