As per a Nature Communications article, the Arctic Ocean may experience its first ice-free day before 2030. This study highlights the rapid Arctic transformation fueled by greenhouse gas emissions.

🧊 Key Facts: The first ice-free day means sea ice drops below 1 million km². While models predict this by 2050, scenarios show it could happen within 3-6 years. Rapid Ice Loss Events, driven by warming winters, spring heatwaves, and summer storms, are hastening this change.
🌎 Global Impact: Warmer oceans and more extreme weather. Threatened Arctic wildlife and disrupted marine life.
🚨 Call to Action:
🔹 Reduce Emissions: Keeping global warming under 1.5°C is critical.
🔹 Raise Awareness: Spread knowledge of these cascading effects.

🌬️🔋 Exploring the Future of Wind Turbine Blade Design 🔋🌬️
I decided to use LinkedIn's "write an article" option for the first time and dive into a topic that's crucial for the future of wind energy: the number of blades on offshore wind turbines. As we aim to meet the growing demand for sustainable energy, this discussion becomes more pertinent than ever.
🌍 By 2050, it's estimated that we will need to install over 2 million wind turbines globally to meet energy targets. While three-blade turbines dominate the market today, new innovations and the challenges of recycling decommissioned blades are prompting a re-evaluation. Could two-blade designs become the new standard, potentially saving nearly a third of the materials?
I invite you to reflect on these questions and share your insights after reading my short article:
1) What are your thoughts on the balance between cost and efficiency when selecting the number of blades for wind turbines?
2) Could advances in materials science or aerodynamics tip the scale in favour of less conventional designs like two-blade or even one-blade turbines in the future?
3) And, how might emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning impact the operational efficiency and maintenance strategies for offshore wind farms?

In the #transition towards a #sustainable energy future, examining the
Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH) is crucial for the successful
#integration of renewable #hydrogen into the energy mix. The LCOH is a
method used to evaluate the total #expenses involved in producing
hydrogen throughout its entire lifecycle, including both capital (CAPEX)
and #operational costs (OPEX).

Considering these costs, LCOH
allows to compare different methods of hydrogen production on a common
basis. This enables #stakeholders, #policymakers, and #investors to make
informed decisions and evaluate the most cost-effective approaches for
producing hydrogen.

This report aims to demonstrate the
#utilization of the LCOH calculator which allows the calculation of
hydrogen production costs in Europe by #electrolysis with various
electricity sources

🌍🌞🌬️ I've noticed many people advocating for nuclear energy. While nuclear power has its merits, some suggest it should replace renewable sources like wind and solar. I disagree with this approach and here is why...

Many are attracted to nuclear energy due to its high capacity and the stability of energy output from a single nuclear power plant, benefiting from economies of scale. Others are drawn by the relatively low Levelised Cost of Electricity (LCOE) associated with nuclear power.

However, there are several misconceptions leading people to believe that nuclear could be the ultimate solution instead of renewables. It's important to consider several factors when advocating for nuclear as a replacement.

⚠️☢️ Hidden Costs and Challenges: One major issue is nuclear waste management. The treatment and safe disposal of nuclear waste remain significant concerns. Mishandling can lead to catastrophic health and environmental impacts that affect everyone on our planet.

🛑🔒 Technological Exclusivity: Nuclear energy is a high-tech field often shrouded in secrecy, accessible only to a select few developed countries. This exclusivity widens the gap between developed and developing nations. 🌐 In contrast, renewable energy sources like solar and wind are becoming increasingly accessible and affordable worldwide.

🌱✅ Global Participation: Renewables can be adopted globally, empowering all countries to contribute to reducing carbon emissions. This fosters inclusivity and shared responsibility for our planet's future. 🤝

Moreover, despite the perceived high capacity of nuclear power, as of 2024, the global installed nuclear power capacity is approximately ~390 GW. In contrast, renewable energy capacities are significantly higher: global installed solar photovoltaic capacity surpassed 1,100 GW (1.1 TW), onshore wind installations exceeded 900 GW, and offshore wind surpassed 68 GW worldwide.

In summary, we need all types and options of energy to have the right mix to cover all types of load expected on national and even international levels. We must agree that there's no one-size-fits-all solution that can suit all countries and solve the issue of energy security.

#JinkoSolar to supply 1 GW of #solar modules for #Neom #hydrogen plant

The Chinese company JinkoSolar has signed an agreement to supply 1 GW of solar modules for the NEOM Green Hydrogen Project in Saudi Arabia, led by the Saudi company ACWA Power. The order was placed by the Indian engineering major Larsen & Toubro, which is in charge of the renewable energy generation, storage and grid infrastructure for the NEOM project.

NEOM Green Hydrogen Company reached financial close on its US$8.4bn large-scale green hydrogen production facility project in 2023. NGHC’s green hydrogen plant will integrate up to 4 GW of solar and wind capacity to produce up to 600 t/day (219 kt/year) of carbon-free hydrogen by the end of 2026, in the form of green-ammonia meant for the global transport and industrial sectors.

The #OceanX boasts an impressive 16.6 MW total capacity, featuring two counter-rotating rotors of MySE8.3-180 super compact hybrid drive wind turbines. The innovative V-shaped tower, with its long and elliptical cross-sections, is designed to enhance production efficiency while reducing loads ⚡️.

Additionally, it appears that pre-tensioned guy ropes will play a crucial role in ensuring balance and further load reduction 🪢.
