Well, if your grandparents built a house, dad inherits it for free. If i recall correctly, If your dad dies and leaves a will, that declares who will be executor of the estate. The property value gets appraised and then the estate is responsible for paying taxes on the accumulation of value dating back to whatever date on the deed.
but that's Estate tax, which DOES have a federal tax, but it has to be worth more than like 12 million before the govt taxes anything.
individual inheritance is the one that the feds don't impose at all. i don't even know what constitutes inheritance if we're not talking about a house, which is why i think the gov't doesn't care lol
i used to live in US a while ago. in NZ now.
nah US doesn't even impose a federal tax on inheritance lol. there's a couple individual states that charge inheritance, but that's state level. not national. it's like 5-6 states

Inheritance tax is up to 50%. Only wife / husband can get up to 500k tax free, children up to 400k. Every cent above needs to be taxed.

Question, does earned income get taxed at a higher or lower rate than capital gains tax in Germany? Because personally, i think that's a little rotten detail in America that flew under the radar for long enough to feel "normal".
Just think about it. The hardest working person/people you know, all of them getting taxed more heavily on their check than someone whose money makes money that contributes literally nothing to society. because money is not a hardworking person.
Then these guys will get paid in stock options or sth. similar. These are worth a lot and can be borrowed against. There should be 0 income taxes.
