Host Android for idle games
I kinda got addicted to an afk android game but I don't want to blow up my battery in this heat.
Saw some players rent Android from Ldcloud and realized I might be able to host it myself.
I have proxmox and docker, tried one android emulator but didn't have play store and was pretty heavy.
Is there a lightweight android emulator I can host with Google play store that I can reach and runs when I am not connected to it?

Saw it posted here within the last month, I swear. Dashboard with graphing, by user, by country, etc., etc., for jellyfin logs.
Might have hooked into the arrs themselves, I forget. Started with "Media" (but not "MediaSync") I think.

Gmailify alternative
I have to admit it: happy user of gmailify here! I use it to catch my old yahoo email address... yes, I am old... and nostalgic as this was my first (serious and surviving) email address. Now it functions as a dump for all my semi and not important accounts.
But as you know gmailify is being phased out...
What are the alternatives here? My go to is Nextcloud as I run it already for several years and it proved reliable (and slow...).
Are any better alternatives? :-)

Authentication Providers - Aunty Approval Factor
Authelia is simple and lightweight, but Authentik has a nice app directory, social sign ons with FB, google, etc, and (maybe?) magic link e-mail authentication? I don't need to worry about the partner approval factor, she can handle a password. It's Aunt Linda I'm worried about. What is your experience, did either cause any specific issues with "family and friends" ?
I like the features of Authentik, but I like how lightweight Authelia is. Initially I thought the "lightweight" was a little less memory and a single container, vs 4 containers for Authentik and . . . . 1GB RAM idle?!?!?! WTF. Version 2025.05 was also idling around 10% CPU and 1.5GB of RAM. 2026.05 bought the CPU idle down to near zero and the RAM down a bit, but that's still crazy high to me for an authentication provider with 1 user and nothing behind it yet. Is it going to be worse??
Little back story if you care:
I've been running my own immich, nextcloud, and several other internal services for years now, but I've finally decided to take the plunge into a full zero trust architecture. I've got everything set up through a SWAG gateway, my own domain, subdomains for services, and got Authelia set up as a front end authorization service. It's working great, but obviously Authelia is pretty simple, so I decided to go ahead and give Authentik a try and am so very disappointed in it's idle resource footprint. Don't get me wrong, I have the resources, it's just more and any of the actual services on my stack consume at idle which blows my mind.
My reason for this is largely family photos, so it's mostly going to be Immich. I have several family members who are "nervous" about uploading all the family photos to the big cloud providers, which is by far the simplest option but also, I don't want to downplay their concern as I'm not thrilled about it either. We have a family Facebook group, which is part of why the facebook login would be so ideal. I really don't want to ask them to have another password, even though authelia does allow self-service password resets which make it a little more acceptable.

What tool do you guys use to selfhost and run managed DBMS?
Hey, new to this. Was looking for a managed DBaaS solution - a little specific to India. Have independently done projects across Hetzner, GCP and AWS across RDS, PG etc.
Any recommendations? Found this one called selfhost.dev but not sure how strong the community around it is eventhough it has got some pretty interesting tooling and MCP support. Wanted to understand better if solutions as such would help me

Project management / todo crossover
Guys & Gals,
I'm looking for a tool that is somewhat a project management tool but also a todo list. I'd appreciate if you could recommend open software for me. Thank you for any ideas!
Requirements:
- self-hosted or installable app,
- single user.
- No need for collaboration, sharing, alarms etc.: just the basics, as simple as possible.
Task structure:
- there are a number of jobs, each with some ID.
- for each job there are two stages: pre-sale and post-sale (post-sale may be empty)
- for both stages I'll want to write a todo list, possibly by creating the first and duplicating it for the second. Each item in these is simply a check/no check; the possiblity to add a message/note to each item would be a nice touch.
- no need for kanban, gantt
- would be nice if the todo list could be nested: item -> subitem1, subitem2...
- adding a due date would be nice but not a must.
Templating:
Again, not a must. I'd welcome if a set of predefined tasks could be set e.g. like a list I can choose from when setting up a todo list for a certain project.

New to self hosting
This might be too broad if so I’m sorry or there might be subs that are more applicable thank you if you’re able to point me in the right direction.
I’m new to self hosting with some experience with homebrew/github basic setup of software and willing/excited to learn more.
I explain some of my specific goals/problems more below but would love to any recommendations for beginner/your first self hosting projects in general
My main goal is to not have to be reliant on subscriptions or companies who may remove content/material. I’ve looked into the music hoarders and piracy subs and have been able to get my music downloaded and I have mp3s stored but am using Apple Music (as it functions as a music player, like iTunes when it was a separate, not the streamer) and am unsure what benefits there would be to self hosting my music player especially if backups are kept on a hard drive as well.
I’m having a harder time with podcasts and news (anything that updates frequently) as well as calendars/to do lists/etc. I feel like I have an okay understanding of RSS feeds for podcasts but haven’t been able to find a option that seems like it would work on iPhone without being subscription based where I can download the content as well.

Windows Phone Link alternative?
Windows Phone Link explicitly passes your data through microsoft servers.
Alternatives exist, such as KDE Connect or Sefirah, but they only work over local wifi, which means
1. they're slow and unreliable to connect
2. Need to reconnect every time you go somewhere
3. They don't work if you're not on the same wifi network. Even on the same network, I've had them not work over mesh systems.
Having them sync through a server would solve all of these problems and give privacy.
Anyone know any alternatives?

Funny Headup: Be mindful when updating your DNS-Service
So i did some maintenance today. Checked which images have updates available, adapted the docker compose files and run docker compose up to pull the images and restart the containers.
Everything went fine until i wanted to update PiHole. Did the same procedure, but the pull took ages. So i decided to browse some reddit only to realize, that it's down. It took me a moment to realize, that without PiHole up and running i can't resolve addresses and therefore access the internet (including pulling docker images).
So i reverted PiHole to the previous version, pulled the new image per hand and then restarted the container.
Made me giggle i bit, hope it also does you.

Archiving raw photos
Due to my hobby, I collected a lot of raw images from my cameras. When I plugin the card reader, an automatic job copy my jpegs and raw files into structured folders on my NAS.
Recently I had a storage dilemma. The raw files are eating a lot of my space and I had to work on a trade off, keep or delete.
After some research and a few beers, I decided that I will not delete my old raw files, even if are years old. But, I found a good way to significantly reduce the size of the original raw files by converting to the .dng format.
Adobe has a great tool for this, adobe dng converter with a proprietary algorithm for good compression with a lot of information preserved. But, I was limited to a GUI tool, with a lot of manual work and maybe small automation using the headless mode.
I could not continue with the headless mode on my desktop, I needed something automated and isolated.
I looked for docker solutions with the headless mode on windows using wine on linux. I could find some projects, but were old and outdated. My cameras profiles are more recent. So I had to make my own docker image with a newer version of adobe dng executable.
After many attempts, I figured out the recipe, to perfectly run the executable in the isolated environment. Also thx to Claude code, for speeding up the whole process.
Now, I have a weekly cronjob to detect and convert the raw files from my homeserver.

I've been working over the past 4 months on creating a companion app for both iOS and Android for Uptime Kuma - I've been using Uptime Kuma for years and love the fact I can run it at basically no cost but also have good visibility of my home stack - I previously used UptimeRobot but became abit glitchy and they locked all of the decent features behind expensive paywalls.
I started working on KumaAlert as a personal project in January and then eventually released it in Feb/March and have made loads of updates/upgrades since that time with the feedback from the amazing community over at r/UptimeKuma (and Discord for Beta Testers!) but I wanted to share it here as well.

Does anyone else keep putting off projects because of the setup?
I have a growing list of ML projects I want to try.
The funny part is that it's rarely the actual project that stops me.
It's usually thinking about setting everything up, checking dependencies, making sure CUDA versions match, downloading models, hoping nothing breaks...
Does anyone else end up procrastinating because of the setup rather than the work itself?

What are the most-used open-source directories you check when looking for a new project?
When you're hunting for a new self-hosted tool, where do you actually look first these days?
My own list feels dated: awesome-selfhosted, the r/selfhosted wiki, Fediverse recommendations, GitHub trending, sometimes LibreHunt or the selfh.st newsletter. Curious what the current go-to sources are.
Two things I'm specifically wondering:
- Do awesome-* lists still drive real discovery, or is it mostly link rot now?
- For a brand-new project, is getting listed in a directory worth the effort, or does discovery happen through word of mouth and Reddit anyway?
Asking partly because I just open-sourced a tool and I'm trying to work out where it's worth being listed versus where it's a waste of time.

Looking for Linux-based backup tools that can mount local/remote backup targets as filesystems
Howdy! See my subject.
I've got 3 Optiplex 7040Ms, all with 32GB RAM, 256 GB OS disk, 1 TB data disk, behind an OpenWRT device. 2 are running Proxmox on Debian 13. The last one is what I'd like to use for backup.
I've also got a desktop running Debian 13 for which I'd want to back up its config and user files (docs, pictures, etc).
I've looked at restic, borg, garage, rcloned and a few others but not found any that match my use case easily.
My criteria are:
\- No LLM involvement/code
\- Long track record of reliability, at least 5+ years
\- Offsite backup to cloud provider or remote at another location over WAN
Ideally I'd set up a cron job that would run a backup on each device to a backup repo target on the 3rd Optiplex, and the repo would be trivially mountable as a filesystem for easy browsing.
Does anything like this exist?
