🤯 $573M lost to crypto scams and hacks in Q2

Immunefi’s latest report reveals crypto hacks and scams are spreading like wildfire. After clocking over $300 million during the first quarter, crypto losses accelerate even further in Q2.

Key takeaways:

▪️The 2 major exploits of the quarter totaled $360,000,000 alone, accounting for 62.8% of all losses in Q2 2024.
▪️In Q2 2024, hacks continued to be the predominant cause of losses at 98.5% in comparison to fraud, which accounted for only 1.5% of the total
losses.
▪️CeFi was the main target of successful exploits at 70% as compared to DeFi at 30% of the total losses.
▪️The two most targeted chains in Q2 2024 were Ethereum and BNB Chain. Ethereum suffered the most individual attacks with 34 incidents,
followed by BNB Chain with 18 incidents, and Arbitrum with 4 incidents.
▪️In total, $26,736,000 has been recovered from stolen funds in 4 specific situations. This number makes up 5% of the total losses in Q2 2024.

Crypto losses to deep fakes could reach $25B in 2024

Bitget noted a 245% increase in the number of deep fakes worldwide in 2024 in a June 27 report.

The crypto exchange found that China, Germany, Ukraine, the United States, Vietnam and the United Kingdom had the most deep fakes detected in the first quarter of 2024, while the crypto industry saw a 217% gain compared to Q1 2023.

📂 Bybit has released its Q2 Asset Allocation report, which covers the period from December 2023 to May 2024.

▪️According to the report, as of May 2024, BTC remains the largest single asset held by all users, accounting for 26% of users' total assets in this leading crypto.

▪️The data also reveals a declining trend in stablecoin holdings for all users, decreasing from 50.2% in December to 42.8% in May. Excluding stablecoins, 61% of users' crypto investments are allocated to BTC and ETH.

▪️Similar to institutions, retail traders continue to show a preference for BTC over ETH, despite renewed optimism for ETH Spot ETFs.

▪️However, institutional positions in BTC and ETH have become more concentrated compared to those of retail traders, with holdings of 39.4% and 20.9% respectively, as of May.

Coinbase is the most impersonated crypto brand by scammers

The report analyzed over 1.14M scams, claimed that over 249,000 of these incidents involved the attacker impersonating a company or organization.

The Coinbase brand was fraudulently used across 416 reported phishing attacks in the past four years.

No, BTC is not in limbo land. Please take notice of the white musical scale “staircase”, aka liquidity pools. BTC is tip toeing down like Cinderella before the clock strikes 12.

Thus far, John Wick (HMA) did not provide his vote of support, now he’s the resistance.

Zooming out, BTC will naturally gravitate towards Bear Turf Customs.

RWA platform Swarm Markets to offer tokenized gold via NFTs

Berlin-based Swarm Markets is planning to let individuals purchase NFTs that represent ownership of physical gold, according to a release shared with the block. The gold bars undergirding the tokenized assets will be held in a London-based Brink’s vault. 

Users will be able to swap the NFTs on a peer-to-peer basis via Swarm's decentralized over-the-counter platform after passing KYC and AML processes.

Ratio wise, that’s where the two upcoming S/R Gateways sit, $182 & $256 est. (future liquidity pools). The structure is climbing at a stable pace.

I suspect a correction is in order at this level as early buyers are in profit and are mentally feeling anxious from the fear of the unknown. Specifically with BTC prancing around with an element of surprise at this time.

A healthy correction to the $90’s +/- price zone will give retail an opportunity for a dip to restock.

There is no point to drive the price up too quickly IMO, retail will take their time to accumulate and ONLY then continue onwards to the gateways mentioned above.

Stock and Crypto market appetites are merging. What’s another 1.5x? Not a fantasy.
