😎 Bitcoin's total amount of holders (non-empty wallets) has exceeded 54.71M, which is within 0.018% of the all-time high (~54.72M) established on January 19, 2025.

This is partially due to BTC network growth, and larger wallets splitting into smaller ones. But this does indicate continued expansion of crypto's top network, despite the nearly 8 weeks of extreme price volatility since Bitcoin's $109K price all-time high.

Only 4% of the world's population holds Bitcoin in 2025

🔸 Only 4% of the global population currently holds Bitcoin, with the highest concentration of ownership in the US, where an estimated 14% of individuals own BTC.

🔸 According to a research report from River, North America remains the continent with the highest adoption rate among individuals and institutions, while Africa is currently the lowest at only 1.6%.

🔸 Overall, BTC adoption tended to be higher in more developed regions than in developing regions. River estimates that BTC has only achieved 3% of its maximum adoption potential — signaling that the digital currency is still in the early stages of global adoption.

The Strategic Bitcoin Reserve means we will finally get an official audit for how much Bitcoin the US actually has.

It’s likely the US has 112k BTC or less because 95k belongs to Bitfinex and will be returned. It does not have the 207k to 220k BTC number that many news sites usually go with. This would put China in the pole position with 194k BTC.

Looking at the case of Estonia and its implementation of crypto licenses in 2017, it is possible to predict that around 75% of VASPs will need to cease their operations in the EU. 

In 2017, Estonia was one of the first EU member states to introduce a crypto licensing process. By 2019, Estonia had issued around 2,000 crypto licenses. 

Starting in 2019, however, Estonia adopted several amendments to the law, incorporating requirements similar to MiCA. As a consequence, the majority of licensed crypto companies were not able to comply with new requirements and lost their licenses. Today, Estonia has only around 45 licensed crypto businesses.
