It really seems like nobody wants to win a championship any more. The trend started in 2020, with Joan Mir beating Franco Morbidelli despite the pair crashing out of three of fourteen races. 2021 was a little better, Fabio Quartararo and Pecco Bagnaia dominating for most of the year, before giving the how-can-I-find-a-way-to-lose-this approach a proper go in 2022. Bagnaia fell off in the first half of the year, Quartararo fell off in the second, and the factory Ducati rider emerged triumphant with a slim 17-point margin over the Frenchman.
But the new approach to championships - trying to fall off slightly less often than your rival - really stepped up a gear in 2023. Jorge Martin and Pecco Bagnaia fought a thrilling battle all season long, rode some fantastic races, but kept throwing away points like disposable cutlery. Martin ended the season with four no scores, Bagnaia with seven. But Bagnaia was smart enough to crash out of sprint races, while Martin was scoring zeroes in the much more lucrative full-length grand prix races.

Joan Mir To Extends Contract With Honda Through 2026
Joan Mir To Extends Contract With Honda Through 2026
Joan Mir is to remain with the factory Honda team for the next two seasons. The 2020 world champion will be riding for Honda in 2025 and 2026, until the end of the current technical regulations.
The signing was not unexpected. For the last couple of races, Mir has been telling reporters that to leave HRC at the end of this year would feel like a defeat. He had joined Honda with aspirations of helping to make the bike competitive again, and that had not yet succeeded.
Mir also had very few other options. Without good results to show, finding a more competitive ride was difficult. And without a competitive bike, scoring competitive results was also difficult.

At CFMOTO’s marketing event CFMOTO Day - Racing Man, I interviewed CFMOTO’s Director of Racing Development Mr. SU Zhen (苏臻) who has been part of CFMOTO’s World Championship effort since its genesis. Let’s see how CFMOTO got involved in the World Championship and their future plans.
Q: CFMOTO entered Moto3 in the 2022 season. When was the decision made within the company? How was the racing department put together?
SZ: Our CEO Mr. LAI Minjie (赖民杰) has had the dream of entering the World Championship forever. You saw that Mini with a ‘Moto3’ license plate at Zhejiang Karting Track during CFMOTO Talent Trophy. He got that plate way before we had a team. He wants a Chinese brand on the World Championship grid. Initially, my boss Ms LIU Xiaofang (刘晓芳) was working on the prep work alone. I was a member of the PR department at the time, which was also overseen by Ms. Liu. I’ve always loved motorsport. I’ve also studied in Italy. It was relatively easy for me to fit in into a paddock filled with Spaniards and Italians. So Ms. Liu invited me to the project. Actually, until about halfway through the 2022 season, it was only Ms. Liu and me on the project. Then gradually we invited more colleagues within CFMOTO who were passionate about motorsport to join us. We also hired external experts, for example, ex-racers to help us test the bike and help with R&D.

Simon Crafar To Become New Head Of FIM Stewards Panel From 2025
Simon Crafar To Become New Head Of FIM Stewards Panel From 2025
Simon Crafar is to replace Freddie Spencer as the head of the FIM Stewards Panel from next season. The New Zealander, who raced in both Grand Prix and WorldSBK in the 1990s, is to take over from Freddie Spencer from next year. Crafar will take a step back from his current role as pit lane reporter and commentator for the MotoGP series.
The move is a very positive one for the sport. The standing of the FIM Stewards has sunk ever deeper over the past few years, as riders complained that the standards being used to judge rider behavior were extremely inconsistent and very difficult to judge and adjust their riding to. Spencer was felt to be out of touch with riding a MotoGP bike, and not a great communicator.
Simon Crafar, on the other hand, is highly regarded by the MotoGP riders. They respect both his stature as an ex-rider, but also his opinion. Crafar lives in Andorra, as do many other MotoGP riders, and knows them on a personal basis.
