My brand new project, Android Debloat List, is created not only to catalogue potential apps that might be disabled, uninstalled or replaced with FOSS alternatives but also to warn users about the potential danger of using certain system apps. As part of this effort, I’ll also be recording vulnerabilities for system apps. To report a vulnerability, create a new issue with the following information:
1. Package name along with its name/label
2. CVD/CVE (or if not supported, link to the vulnerability)
3. Affected versions (either a list or a range) using version name (optional) and version code
4. Optional comments
5. How it should be dealt (update
, remove
, replace
with alternative, keep
due to potential issues)
Why? Because vulnerabilities do not show up in almost any AV software.
[I’m currently taking a break from FOSS development, I’ll create an issue template for it when I’ll be back in the next month.]

⚡️Progressive Web App for F-Droid In Development
@takebackourtech
The F-Droid team is working on a progressive web app for browsing F-Droid repositories.
Progressive Web Apps or PWAs are web applications that look and feel like a mobile app thanks to some tweaks and the ability to add them to the phone's home screen. They're much easier to build than mobile apps.
The app is still in development with the following features:
-displaying basic repository informations;
- Providing a link/QR-code for adding the repository to your F-Droid client;
- Browsing and searching for apps;
- Displaying app details and app downloads.
The most exciting part about this announcement is their plan to expand F-Droid tooling to iOS. This could potentially mean that iOS apps can be distributed through F-Droid.
Since the EU is forcing Apple to allow sideloading apps (getting apps from outside the App Store) in a few years, F-Droid could eventually be home to open-source apps on iOS.

#Accrescent
A novel Android app store focused on security, privacy, and usability.
Currently in early alpha
https://accrescent.app
https://github.com/accrescent/accrescent
Features:
App signing key pinning
Signed repository metadata
Automatic, unprivileged, unattended updates
First-class support for split APKs
No remote APK signing
Meaningful quality control for submitted apps
No account requirement for installing apps
...and more. See the features page on the website for details.
Warning from its faq:
Apps do not need to be open-source to be submitted to Accrescent. Although open-source software provides additional transparency and can make it easier for users to check overall code quality, it is not inherently more secure or private than closed-source software. Likewise, proprietary software is not inherently less secure or private than open-source software. Since Accrescent is focused on security and privacy it wouldn't make sense for it to restrict developers to a specific source model.

#microg v0.2.28.231657
https://github.com/microg/GmsCore/releases/tag/v0.2.28.231657
Changelog
Entirely new, rewritten location stack
Major update to maps implementation. Thanks @fynngodau
Support for reCAPTCHA Enterprise API
Various compatibility improvements
Notes
The new location stack does not support UnifiedNlp modules anymore. This was a step necessary to take to get locations properly working on latest Android versions. This means that some features previously available through UnifiedNlp modules do no longer exist. The goal is to merge the most important of those features into GmsCore. For now, the new locations stack is relying exclusively on Mozilla Location Service for network based location.
microG GmsCore now requests a few additional privileged permissions. As always, privileged permissions are optional for microG and you can continue using microG as an unprivileged app with only minor downsides. The new privileged permissions are:
android.permission.LOCATION_HARDWARE
android.permission.MODIFY_PHONE_STATE
android.permission.NETWORK_SCAN
android.permission.UPDATE_DEVICE_STATS
android.permission.WATCH_APPOPS
Lock and wipe on emergency.
.
You can use PanicKit, tile, shortcut or send a message with a secret code. On trigger, using Device Administration API, it locks a device and optionally runs wipe (factory reset). Or it can send a broadcast message instead of the wipe.
Also you can:
fire when a device was not unlocked for X time
fire when a USB data connection is made while a device is locked
fire when a fake messenger app is launched
fire when a duress password is entered (companion app: Duress)
The app works in Work Profile too, but with limitations. Use it to install risky apps and Wasted in it. Then you can wipe this profile data with one click without wiping the whole device.
For base security take a look at: Sentry.Only encrypted device may guarantee that the data will not be recoverable.
Be aware that the app does not work in safe mode

What is OpenStreetMap?
⚡️@takebackourtech | SOURCE
Working on a very important video this week on mapping - and of course we will be covering OpenStreetMaps.
If you aren't using it yet for personal navigation, you should try it - you would be surprised at the Points-Of-Interests it can pickup, thanks to the million+ contributors.
https://www.openstreetmap.org/
OpenStreetMap is a free, editable map of the whole world made by people like you. It was started in 2004 in the UK, out of frustration with the lack of availability of good map data that was free to use.
OpenStreetMap includes data about roads, buildings, addresses, shops and businesses, points of interest, railways, trails, transit, land use and natural features, and much more.
The map is created and maintained by nearly 5 million registered users and more than 1 million map contributors in every country in the world, using free tools and software. The data is used by local people, volunteer groups, companies, governments, software developers and more.

We may finally have a censorship resistant online shopping market where people can buy and sell using Bitcoin and hopefully other currencies!
Nostr Market is a decentralized marketplace, and it just saw it's first official release two days ago. It is built as an extension for LNbits.
It is for both merchants, and individuals looking to sell anything and everything.
Nostr Market is based on the Nostr protocol, which means there are no central servers or controlling authority.
User iefan, in reference to his project, announced on Nostr that, "there will soon be a web version of Nostr Marketplace. I will have no control over it, and it will be completely unstoppable."
His version of Nostr Marketplace is called the "Zapit Store" because people will be able to buy and sell by "zapping" Bitcoin to each other.
Nostr and Nostr Marketplace are built around Bitcoin.

6 Best Secure Messaging Alternatives to WhatsApp | Avoid the Hack – https://avoidthehack.com/best-secure-messengers
The content of your messages and the metadata associated with them should be secure and private. Unfortunately many messengers out there fail to do this.
Telegram operates in the cloud, and while this does have good portability across multiple devices and device types, the service provider (or anyone with access to the cloud server) could theoretically read them at any time with relative ease; Telegram stores messages on the third-party cloud provider's server.
According to Telegram’s privacy policy, the service itself logs IP addresses and phone numbers.

Google PlayStore™ can be installed with #minmicrog and other microg installers. Some apps you bought with a Google account may require it to check for licenses.

FlatHub Redesign Released Out of Beta

Have you used Flathub, an app store for Flatpak format apps on Linux?

Check it out: https://flathub.org
Its impressive to see Flathub grown to over 2,000 apps. Now you can see new apps, recently updated, and 'verified' apps so you ensure you're getting an a genuine app from popular developers.
I think they need to add a toggle for 'proprietary' (looking at you Spotify)
