There is a site called "I Know What You Download", which claims to gather information from across the internet to find out what people are downloading. They can track if you have ever downloaded a song, movie, or any file from Torrents, or anywhere in the internet. There is also a feature which lets you see what your friends are doing on the internet!

In the meeting, they reached some sort of settlement and soon after, Narendra Modi announced political parties will not be held accountable for their cash deposits. It seems like a case of plundering the nation's wealth hand in hand and harassing the common man.

Our attention spans really are dwindling. The average person could concentrate on one task without being distracted for 12 seconds in 2000, and just 13 years later that had dropped to eight seconds. Our attention problem is due to both lack of focus and focus on the wrong things. You don't need a 'smart'phone to transfer money:
Starting next month, anyone with a mobile will be able to transfer funds by using the mobile number of the recipient. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has integrated the *99# messaging-based mobile banking service with its Unified Payments Interface (UPI), allowing transfer of money with minimum details. This feature, which will make even those with a handset of Rs. 1,000 use 'mobile banking', will be launched on January 30 with a new brand name by the PM.
These are foods that may ruin your dreams of a flat stomach:
—sweets: they offer nothing but completely avoidable calories
—fast food: a single fast food meal can be upto a massive 2,000 calories!
—alcohol: it has a caloric value and almost neglible nutritive properties
—refined grains: they are nothing but pure carbohydrates. It gives a sugar rush, and worse off, when the effect starts to fade out, it leaves you hungrier!
—fruit juice: though it does have nutritional value, it is often high in sugar!

After rumours of gains on shares attracting tax, the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has clarified that there was no plan for a long-term capital gains tax on stock transactions, an issue investors are hugely touchy about.
FYI - Currently, long-term capital gains on the sale of listed securities are exempt from taxes. These are profits on sale of shares on a stock exchange platform after a holding period of one year or more.

The RBI has given another surprise (read: shock) to Indian citizens - deposits of above Rs. 5,000 in banned bank notes can be made only once till December 30. Such deposits will be accepted only after two bank officials satisfy themselves on why the deposits were not made earlier. The accounts must also be compliant with customer information details, called KYC, otherwise deposits can be restricted to Rs 50,000.

Corruption complaints against public servants in Maharashtra can now be lodged online. The office of the lokayukta, which is the state's anti-corruption ombudsman, has launched its website to facilitate this - lokayukta.maharashtra.gov.in is where citizens can file complaints.

The concept of a cashless economy may be wonderful in an ideal world, but, in reality, is possible only when a country has high internet speeds and high cyber security. The ‘Income Declaration Scheme – Part 2’ has commenced from today, and will extend upto 31st March, 2017. Under this scheme, the black money hoarders can come clean by paying 50% tax on deposits made in banks in old currencies, along with setting aside 25% for 4 years (interest free) for the benefit of the poor. This scheme is called PMGKY - The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. Not declaring the black money under the scheme now but showing it as income in the tax return form would lead to a total levy of 77.25% in taxes and penalty.
