Vivek Deshpande and Kirit Joshi met as engineering students in Nagpur, and started their career by selling study materials for students as VK Publishers. They then set up a workshop for office furniture and via that, were exposed to Canadian and German companies. India has improved by a whopping 16 places in the World Economic Forum's (WEF) 2016-17 Global Competitiveness Index (GCI), and has been ranked 39 out of 138 countries, thereby emerging as the highest rising economy due to improvement in goods and services, market efficiency, business sophistication and innovation. This is the second year in a row that the country has climbed 16 places in the ranking. Switzerland, Singapore and USA continue to remain as the world's most competitive economies.
FYI – GCI measures 12 areas in a country to give a ranking of the competitiveness prevalent. These areas include institutions, infrastructure, macroeconomic environment, health and primary education, higher education and training, goods and market efficiency , labour market efficiency among others.

To battle the traffic in Mumbai, a unique solution is being considered - a "one family-one car policy". If this proposal is accepted, a family may be allowed to use only 1 car at a time. Also, developing inland water ways is also on the agenda - to reduce the burden from roads and rails! We truly hope that this is the beginning of the end of traffic!

Shrikant Jadhav, a resident of a rural village in drought hit Maharashtra, runs a small mobile repairing shop. Inspite of his menial income, he decided to help the poorest of the poor – by giving them free water! Shrikant buys water from a local distributor and distributes water at places where he sees people standing in long queues in front of virtually dry hand pumps. He pours water from the cans in the empty buckets that people are holding and goes back to the distributor for refills. He has spent Rs. 17,000 from his own pocket on this effort so far and has succeeded in distributing over 20,000 litres of water already!

Mukhtarul Amin grew up in Kanpur and left college to work in the family’s leather business. He explored global opportunities and soon partnered with European companies, importing their technology.
