Ernakulam Junction South (ERS)
One of the important stations in the city of Kochi in Kerala is the Ernakulam Junction railway station. The train has high passenger traffic and stands second highest in terms of passenger revenue in Kerala. The railway comes under the Thiruvananthapuram railway division. It is classified as A1 and is operated by the Southern Railway Zone of India. The station has a total of six platforms for both local and long-distance trains.
The station offers many amenities such as restrooms, children's play zone, library, Wi-Fi, air-conditioned lounge etc. All platforms also have escalators, making it easier for the passengers especially the older citizens to move from one platform to the other. Around 48 trains originate from this station, and 47 trains terminate here. Apart from that, other 60 trains halt here. The station is 2.8 kilometres away from the city centre where one can reach by taxi, auto-rickshaw or bus service.
Places like Mattancherry Palace, Jewish Synagogue, St. Francis Church and Kochi fort are situated on the west end of the city and are 10 to 12 km away from the station. Attappadi Reserve Forest is a protected area covering 249 Sq Km of land of Mannarghat Taluk in Palakkad district of Kerala, India. Ezhimala
Ezhimala (ezhu means seven and mala means mountain in Malayalam), is a seven-peaked mountain, about 55 kms from Kannur. The mountainous region, which stands at a height of about 286 m above sea level, is seven kilometres from Payyannur.
The historically significant Ezhimala has an interesting past that dates back to the Sangha period. It was the headquarters of the Ezhimala kings and later, of the Mooshika kings. It witnessed the battles between Chola and Chera dynasties in the 11th century. At the foothills, there are relics of the distant past, such as burial chambers, carved stone pillars, caves and granite platforms.
