​​Thiruvananthapuram Zoo

Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, one of the oldest terrarium in the country which was established as a supplemental to the Napier Museum in the year 1857 by the former Maharaja of Travancore, which was originally opened for recreational purposes, the zoo becomes a conservation center of wildlife over a period of time.

The zoo has a wide array of 35 species of animals, 28 species of birds and 17 kinds of reptiles. The zoo also houses botanical gardens with more than 200 species of trees, thousands of beautiful plants, orchids and snake farm.

Malayala Kalagramam (MAKAM) is a centre for art and ideas which aims at providing children and youngsters a Kalari (stage) to practise and perform all forms of fine arts. The centre offers part-time as well as full-time courses in painting, sculpture, music and dance and art pottery. Yoga and Sanskrit are also taught here. The fraternity centre of the Kalagramam conducts seminars, symposia, extension lectures, in-service programmes and special projects in different fields of art and humanities. The studies at the centre are aimed at familiarising classical and contemporary trends and techniques in art as well as to utilise art better in daily life. Visitors are allowed to watch classes with the prior permission from the Director.

​​Pullumedu Hill in Idukki

Pullumedu is yet another hidden gem enhancing Idukki’s repertoire, with hills draped in green greeting you on your journey up as the majestic Periyar river accompanies you the entire way. Apart from the natural view, one also gets glimpses of the Sree Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala and the Makara Jyothi illuminations at the shrine. On site, picnickers and trekkers will get every single camp site and trail that they can imagine, with newer areas coming to light on every visit. The area can only be reached via jeep. Since it is part of the restricted forest zone, special permission to visit has to be obtained from the Wildlife Preservation Officer, Thekkady, or The Range Officer, Vallakkadavu.

​​Malampuzha Garden and Dam

Malampuzha gardens, located in the lower hills of the Western Ghats, are the only rock-cut gardens in South India. The entire garden is made from broken pieces of bangles, tiles, used plastic cans, tins and other waste materials. Flowering beds, fountains, Rose gardens, an aerial ropeway, and picnic spots add to the allure of Malampuzha. The famed Malampuzha Yakshi built in 1969 by Kanayi Kunhiraman is also in the gardens.

The Ambalavayal heritage museum is situated 12 km south of Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad district. A valley of rocky mountains that reflects the rays of the sun like a perfect mirror; this is the special distinction that led to Kannadipara (Rock Mirror) getting its name. Kannadipara is the highest point in the Ilaveezhapoonchira range of Kottayam district. Nominated as one of the nine eminent artists of India, Kerala's renowned painter Panicker, was born in 1911. He was instrumental in setting up the Progressive Painters Association in Madras from 1944 to 1953. An artist who set a new trend, the KCS Panicker Gallery traces his works over a period. Margi in Thiruvananthapuram district is an ideal place to get trained in Kathakali and other major art forms of Kerala. It is also an important destination for art lovers where one can watch the performance of some of the major art forms of Kerala like Kootiyattam, Nangyarkoothu, Chakyarkoothu, Paatakom (all temple art forms) and Kathakali in an ethnic atmosphere. Margi has its activities at two places in Thiruvananthapuram, the first at Valiyasala (Margi - Valiyasala) where Kootiyattam, Nangyarkoothu, Chakyarkoothu and Paatakom are performed and aspiring artistes trained. The other centre near East Fort (Margi - Fort) which is devoted exclusively to Kathakali. The institution was founded in 1970 by noted theatre enthusiast of the time the late D. Appukuttan Nair. He was also the architect of the Koothambalam at Kalamandalam at Cheruthuruthy in Kerala and Rukmini Arundale's dance school complex in Chennai.

​​Navara Eco Farm

Navara Eco Farm on the banks of Chittur river in Palakkad district is a unique farming venture which gives importance to propogation of Navara, a rice variety seen in northern parts of Kerala and seen as great value from a healthcare point of view. Navara is widely used in the Ayurvedic system of medicine. Spread over an area of 18 acres, the Navara Eco Farm in Chittur also has other types of crops like coconut, mango, pomegranate, medicinal herbs, bamboo and vegetables. A maximum of eight visitors can be accommodated in the farm at a time, and the stay here gives one the opportunity to enjoy some of the local delicacies. At the ancestral house located in the farm, visitors can have a close look at some of the old and traditionally used farming implements, varieties of Navara and rice seeds and literature on various farm products.

​​CVN Kalari at Edakkad

Kalaripayattu, the traditional and exclusive martial art form of Kerala, is widely acclaimed as a synthesis of body control, treatment, and armed and unarmed combat. This immaculate martial art form can be witnessed in its fullest, bearing all traditional and orthodox techniques and systems of treatment, at the C.V.N. Kalari at Edakkad in Kozhikode. The Kalari (arena) itself is set amidst serene surroundings with an ambience that is most suited for the practice of Kalaripayattu.

The C.V.N. Kalari at Edakkad is run by Mr. Sudhakaran Gurukal (master), who is a respected teacher and also an accomplished Marma physician. At the early age of seven itself, boys and girls can start training. The classes conducted here are for Kalaripayattu, Massage and Marma treatment, and a dedicated student can master all these in a span of one to one-and-a-half years' time. The centre also conducts demonstrations and workshops on Kalaripayattu at venues selected by interested parties and also for Television programmes, Movies, Dancers, Theatre artists, Athletes etc.

​​Tipu's Fort in Palakkad

Tipu's Fort or Palakkad Fort, in its current form was built by Hyder Ali, the ruler of Mysore in 1766. Named after Tipu, the son of Hyder Ali, the fort was under the Mysore rulers for years before it fell into the hands of British during the colonial era. The fort, situated on a strategically important location acted as military base in the past. Years down the line, the fort enjoys the hustle and bustle of the city, with joggers, evening walkers and history buffs frequenting the area. ​​East Fort

East Fort is among the most bustling areas in all of Thiruvananthapuram, famous for being home to the historic Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple. The place is full of people, tourists, shops and a plethora of commercial sites.

The Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple, built in traditional Kerala and Dravidian style and the architecture of this seven-storied temple-tower is the major attraction here. As per Hindu traditions and beliefs, the deity of the temple is Lord Padmanabha, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the preserver of life.

Inside the East Fort area one finds structures used by the erstwhile royal family, including several small and big palaces built in traditional as well as western style of architecture. One also finds inside the Ananthavilasam Palace, built by King Vishakam Thirunal in 1880. Other major structures in the area include the Kuthiramalika and the Navarathri Mandapam. The Navarathri Mandapam hosts the annual ten-day Navarathri celebrations, famous for its music festival.
