A mythological destination and place of tourist importance - 'Thangal Para' is primarily a Muslim pilgrimage centre, about 5 kilometre from the Vagamon town at Kolahalamedu in Idukki district. As per legends, a Sufi saint from Afghanistan, Husrath Sheikh Fariduddin Baba came to Kerala around 800 years ago and this rock is supposed to be his 'Dargah' or the final resting place. The unique stone formation is situated at an altitude of 2,500 metres, and the spherical shape is believed to have gradually formed after the saint’s death.
