Summary of this cycle so far (for alts):

Q4 2023:
Everything off cycle lows, no fear of cycle being over, many multiples achieved on majority of alts across different verticals

Q1 2024:
Several charts resetting, but crazier moves on select alts occur. Dispersion begins to take effect, with good alts still running very hard but pick the wrong coin and you likely wouldn't have made a ton.

Q2 2024:
Large deleveraging event to start the quarter, dispersion increases materially and whilst BTC chops within range most alts begin trends down.

Summary:
Very few compounders throughout the cycle (probably AI and memes exclusively), significantly increasing difficulty as cycle progresses without external capital inflow, and much mental anguish across most participants.

Think this sets up for a nice interim cycle bottom in June and a better H2 ahead of us (please)

🦄Pantera is betting big on TON

Crypto venture capital firm Pantera is raising money for a new fund to invest specifically in The Open Network's Toncoin, doubling down on its prior bet on the token.

Pantera's new TON fund comes shortly after the firm made its largest-ever investment in TON since its founding in 2003.

With the latest TON fund effort, Pantera appears to be highly bullish about the token's potential.

"We believe the TON network is still in its early stages, and we are excited to witness the adoption of its ecosystem and new features by the Telegram user base," Ryan Barney, a Pantera partner, said last month.

🎮 Initiatives on Web3 Gaming

Web3 gaming, a very prominent segment of crypto during the last bull run, has seen a decrease in capital funding and community hype the last 2 years.

With no clear winner in the race for a web3 project that resonates with gamers, the question that everyone is pondering: Will a web3 game ever compete against a AAA game?

🦄 The Arbitrum Foundation has taken a big step towards incentivising innovation for web3 games via the Gaming Catalyst Program (GCP)

225 million ARB tokens (~$215 million) will be distributed over three years to support gaming projects, aiming to expand awareness and adoption of Arbitrum/Orbit/Stylus in the gaming community.

Funds are primarily designated for publishers, with grants up to 500,000 ARB (~$483,000) for new and early-stage developers.

Established developers must seek investments with value shares. Remaining funds will cover infrastructure bounties and operational expenses.

A dedicated GCP team, overseen by a council of five experts, will manage daily operations with a budget cap of $25 million, requiring DAO approval for any excess.

By allocating resources strategically, the program can maximize its impact by focusing on proven publishers and developers as well as promising independent projects within gaming.

Does Paradigm support attracting users through generous airdrops?

Paradigm is widely regarded as a friendly and generous Tier-1 venture capital firm towards airdrop hunters.

Projects in Paradigm's portfolio are known for their generosity in airdrops within the crypto community.

Stories of ungrateful rewards for early users can severely damage a reputation and future income.

The latest difficult cases were Starknet and zkSync, where real early adopters and contributors were affected by the hunt for Sybils.

LayerZero has taken on the mission to identify all Sybils in crypto, but has already ruined its ecosystem project, claiming that all users of the cheapest bridge with small transactions were Sybils.

It's hard to find a balance with Sybil hunting, but crypto is at such an adoption stage that extra rewards bring more liquidity and TVL, and encourage more people to continue using generous projects.

Conversely, unfairly rewarding true users who have brought significant funds to the protocols causes great skepticism within the community.

3 Tips to Prevent Burnout During Fundraising

1. Don’t Listen to the Crowd

One of the first things founders learned at Y Combinator was to avoid ‘averaging’ advice. It’s unproductive to process advice from many sources, especially unsolicited ones. Instead, focus on one or two people with extensive knowledge and experience in your industry and the specific deal size and stage you're raising for. This person could be an aligned investor or a founder who recently raised a similar round and understands the current market dynamics.

2. Anticipate Rejection

Rejection is a common part of fundraising. Visualize the process as a sales funnel with a natural drop-off rate. This perspective can make rejections less discouraging. Ensure you have buffers between investor meetings so you can arrive at each one fresh and enthusiastic. Investors look for companies poised for significant growth and founders who are resourceful and resilient. Find what helps you reset your mind before each pitch—whether it’s a walk, breathing exercise, or meditation—and don’t hesitate to seek professional help if needed.

3. Prepare Your Life and Company

Get your personal and professional life organized before you start fundraising. You won’t be fully present until the round is closed, so delegate or pause most of your projects. Communicate this clearly to your team and those around you to avoid increasing your mental load and the inevitable guilt of not being able to deliver on every front during the fundraising process.

✨Stablecoins: the past and the presence!

The first stablecoin, BitUSD was introduced nearly 10 years ago and since then stablecoins have amased a total market cap of $160 billion, cementing them as an essential component of the DeFi ecosystem.

They aim to maintain a stable value relative to real-world assets and are used to facilitate trades, serve as collateral for loans, and enable market participants to avoid inefficiencies associated with converting back to fiat currency.

🪙USDT (Tether):
The market leader in US-pegged stablecoins, Tether has established its dominance having the highest market cap. USDT's stability and liquidity are crucial for trading and liquidity provision across numerous DeFi platforms, cementing its status as a foundational asset in the decentralized finance space.

🪙USDC:
The second largest US-pegged stablecoin, USDC has showcased a consistent upward trajectory. USDC's regulatory compliance and transparency contribute significantly to its adoption by institutions and retail investors alike.

🪙DAI:
The biggest algorithmic stablecoin on the market, DAI has a market cap of $5.217 billion. It is backed by a mix of crypto assets, algorithmically managed to keep a 1:1 parity with the US dollar. Historically, black swan events have caused DAI to diverge from its peg, reflecting the complexities and risks of algorithmic mechanisms. However, the idea of a stablecoin backed by crypto assets has resonated deeply with the DeFi and web3 community.

Stablecoins are an essential part of the industry and with the collapses of Luna and controversies around Tether, they have have been shown in a bad light.

It is essential however to understand their importance in making the whole industry more efficient and accessible for all stakeholders.

Is SocialFi trending again? Paradigm leads $150 million raise for web3 social media platform Farcaster

Farcaster raised $150 million in funding led by Paradigm, with additional participation from a16z crypto, Haun Ventures, USV, Variant, Standard Crypto and others.
 
Farcaster is an Optimism-based decentralized social media platform that not only gives users more control over their data but allows developers to augment the platform through mini-applications called "frames."
 
Farcaster co-founder Dan Romero wrote in a Tuesday's release that the raise will "support our work on Farcaster for many years to come." 
 
We observed a growth in Farcaster users from February to April amidst the $DEGEN token mechanics in the app, which distributed drops to active Farcaster users and yielded excellent returns post-listing. Now, the community is engulfed in similar mechanics with the $BUILD token and many more! And frames is bringing a large number of builders into the ecosystem!
 
"Since going permissionless last October, Farcaster has seen 350,000 paid sign-ups and a 50x increase in network activity,”
 
Romero added in the statement. "There are hundreds of developers building on the protocol and a growing number of apps and frames for people to use.”
