🥵Startups’ Shutdowns in 2023

Peter Walker, Head of Insights at Carta, recently shared some sobering statistics:

⛔️ 543 startups using Carta have shut down in 2023, surpassing the 467 from the entirety of last year.
⛔️ Half of these startups closed without any VC backing, while the other half had at least one priced round.
⛔️ A staggering 90% of VC-backed shutdowns were Seed or Series A startups.
⛔️ 34 startups that had reached Series B or later have already shut down this year.
⛔️ 87 startups that raised at least $10 million have closed their doors, nearly double from last year.

Are we finally at the bottom? 🤔

Takeaway: Don’t panic. Act smart. Calculate your runaway, spend wisely and focus on traction & cash generating activities. Survive now to thrive later!

Decoding the Crypto VC Landscape: Q3 2023

Diving deep into the latest «Crypto & Blockchain Venture Capital – Q3 2023» report by Galaxy, here's the distilled essence that matters. Let's cut through the noise and get straight to what you need to know:

🔹 Bear Market Reality: Q3 had the lowest VC activity since Q4 2020. Crypto and Blockchain startups raised $1.975bn across 367 deals in Q3. But remember, it's still double the 2017-2020 bear market levels.

🔹 Deal Stage Dynamics: Notably, early-stage deals (Pre-Seed, Seed, Series A) dominated the capital investment, accounting for 83.5% of the total.

🔹 Sectoral Insights:

- Trading & Exchange: Attracting a significant $611m, it's clear the market is bullish on innovations in trading.
- Web3, NFTs, and Metaverse: These sectors combined raised $266.5m, underscoring the growing interest in decentralized platforms and digital assets.
- AI's Emergence: A notable $60mn was invested in startups blending AI with crypto, signaling a convergence of tech frontiers.
