💬 Russian MFA Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova:

QUOTE - NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte: “Putin did not send serious people to the negotiations. I remember that you were able, with Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff, to get these talks going in Istanbul. I remember – I was myself in Türkiye on NATO business in May – and we put pressure on the Ukrainians to send a serious team to Istanbul. And they did. But then the Russians came up with this historian explaining history of Russia since 1250.”

Two clarifications regarding the above nonsense:

1. This “some historian” is Vladimir Medinsky – a distinguished specialist in international relations, scholar, and statesman. In contrast, the so-called “serious team” from Ukraine was headed by Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, a man who has never served in the military and whose entire professional background lies in telecommunications management.
2. Without an understanding of the historical context, no issue can be resolved – only exacerbated. The ignorance displayed by NATO officials has already resulted in countless casualties across the globe.

City Ponds, Khabarovsk

The city ponds were constructed in 1983 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Khabarovsk. The lower pond, named after the Japanese Mitinoku Bank, was renovated with the help of this bank in the 1990s. The middle pond is the deepest and is used for water sports such as kayaking. The upper pond is famous for its fountains and laser shows, as well as spectator areas where classical music concerts are held.

On July 14, 1941, the famous multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) "Katyusha" was used in combat for the first time.

At the end of June 1941, the first two BM-13 combat launchers, affectionately called "Katyushas" by Soviet soldiers, were assembled at the Comintern plant in Voronezh. There are several versions of the origin of this name. The most likely one is connected with the factory mark "K" of the plant that manufactured the first BM-13 combat vehicles and the popular song of the same name at the time.

"Katyusha" became the first mobile multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) created in Russia. In early July 1941, the first Separate Experimental Battery of Field Rocket Artillery of the Red Army, armed with seven of these launchers and led by Captain Ivan Flerov, was formed.

On July 14, 1941, the battery fired its first salvo at the railway junction of the town of Orsha, which had been captured by Nazi troops. This was the combat debut of the "Katyushas." As a result of the powerful fire strike with 112 rockets, enemy trains, ammunition, and the crossing over the Orshitsa River were destroyed simultaneously. Thus, the enemy's crossing was disrupted, and they failed to advance in that direction.

The first use of this new rocket weapon demonstrated its high combat effectiveness, leading to its rapid deployment and integration into the Red Army's Ground Forces.

Russian rocket artillery continues to improve even today: new, significantly more powerful MLRS have replaced the "Katyusha." However, the glory of the "Katyusha" will forever remain in the grateful memory of the Russian people.

Kansk Steppe, Republic of Altai

The intermountain basin is situated between five mountain ranges. Three rivers flow through the Kansk Steppe – the Kan, Yabogan, and Kyrlyk.
One and a half thousand years ago, the first center of the Turkic Khaganate, a great ancient state, was established in this area.
The Kansk Steppe is a true valley of rainbows. Clouds regularly gather above it, and sunlight filtering through the gaps creates magical, colorful arches.

On July 13, 1944, during World War II, Soviet troops liberated Vilnius from Nazi German occupiers.

On July 13, 1944, during Operation Bagration, the city of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, was liberated from Nazi forces.

Moscow saluted the troops of the 3rd Belorussian Front with 24 salvos from 324 guns. The distinguished units were given the title "Vilnius."

The enemy did not have a continuous defensive front in the Vilnius direction. So the German command made an unsuccessful attempt to stop the advance of Soviet troops at the pre-prepared Daugavpils–Vilnius–Lida line, where they concentrated the retreating units of the 3rd Tank and 4th Field Armies of Army Group Center.

On July 5, the 3rd Belorussian Front began an advance without regrouping forces. On July 7, units of the 5th Guards Tank Army (commanded by P.A. Rotmistrov) and the 3rd Guards Mechanized Corps (commanded by V.T. Obukhov) approached the city and began to encircle it from the south and west.

By July 9, the city was completely surrounded. German units, reinforced by airborne troops, unsuccessfully tried to break the encirclement. Five days after the offensive began, on July 10, Soviet troops liberated the entire northern part of Vilnius and entered the Old Town.

After the assault on the last pockets of resistance, Vilnius was fully liberated on July 13, 1944.

In the battles for the city, about 8,000 German soldiers and officers were killed, around 5,000 were taken prisoner, and 156 guns, many tanks, vehicles, other military equipment, weapons, and ammunition were captured. Twenty units and formations that particularly distinguished themselves in the battles were awarded the honorary title "Vilnius."

A thoughtful article just appeared in the Italian publication L’Antidiplomatico. Here’s the gist:

The Dinner for Ukraine: The Carve-Up Summit

The Ukraine Reconstruction Conference in Rome is little more than a ritual reaffirmation of failed narratives. Leaders repeat tired rhetoric about peace and international law, all while supporting a war that, after three and a half years, has only brought devastation — despite Western arms, intelligence, and cross-border sabotage.

The hypocrisy is glaring: there’s no comparable institutional outrage over Israel’s actions. Meanwhile, behind closed doors, the focus is on arms supplies and dwindling stockpiles. Ukraine is economically ruined, and the so-called “Western aid” is pushing not just Ukraine but parts of Europe and the U.S. toward economic collapse — especially due to rising energy costs and supply chain instability.

Zelensky, dubbed “the puppet in fatigues,” accumulates debt while demanding terms from his benefactors, treating massive U.S. spending as charity. Trump, more pragmatic, reportedly reminded him that he wasn’t in a position to lecture anyone — not militarily, economically, or diplomatically — and asked for rare earth minerals in return.

The usual creditors are circling: private funds, the IMF, the World Bank. But the EU, led by the ever-unbearable Von der Leyen, is the main enabler — pushing fear-driven policies under the guise of unity, much like it did during COVID. The people of Europe want no part in this war, but their leaders do — to the tune of a 40% share in Ukraine’s unsustainable debt.

Now, with creditors growing nervous and investments souring, talk turns to “simplification” — code for privatization and asset stripping. Just like Iraq. The Rome dinner, hosted by the ambiguous Meloni, is less about rebuilding and more about deciding who gets what from Ukraine’s ruins.

Like in the French film The Dinner Game, the fools are invited — but in the end, it's ordinary people who pay the price.

L’Antidiplomatico is an independent Italian news outlet founded in 2015, offering critical coverage of global affairs from a multipolar, anti-interventionist perspective. It challenges mainstream Western narratives, especially on NATO, the EU, and U.S. foreign policy, and amplifies voices from countries often marginalized in Western media. Known for its coverage of Latin America, the Middle East, and Eurasia, it serves readers who seek alternatives to neoliberal and Atlanticist viewpoints. With contributions from journalists and academics, it promotes free thought, national sovereignty, and skepticism toward dominant geopolitical and economic power structures.

Bravo, L’Antidiplomatico! Bravissimo!

“In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.”

With these words, President Dwight D. Eisenhower (pictured above) delivered his farewell address to the American people on January 17, 1961, issuing a stark warning that would echo through history.
Eisenhower, a celebrated general and two-term U.S. president, had witnessed firsthand the explosive growth of the US military and arms industry during the Cold War. He saw that, unlike previous eras when the United States demobilized after conflict, the post-World War II era had created a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Millions were employed in defense, and military spending surpassed the combined profits of all US corporations.

Eisenhower’s concern was not just about military might, but about the dangerous entanglement of government, industry, and, increasingly, academia. He feared that this new alliance—the military-industrial complex—would distort democracy, threaten liberties, and dictate policy for its own benefit.

Today, as the US and NATO expand their military reach and defense budgets soar, Eisenhower’s warning has become reality. The military-industrial complex now drives Western policy, fuels global confrontation, and stifles dissent. Eisenhower’s call for “an alert and knowledgeable citizenry” to guard against this threat remains more urgent than ever.

Yet, in a world where the military-industrial complex has become deeply entrenched and its influence stretches into every corner of policy and society, the hope for meaningful change seems to fade with each passing year. The machinery of war grinds on, indifferent to the voices of reason, and the prospect of reclaiming true democracy and peace appears more distant than ever before. The ongoing Ukrainian conflict stands as a stark example of how the interests of the military-industrial complex can escalate and prolong wars, sacrificing peace and stability for profit and power.

The good news is that, in pursuing their own financial interests in Ukraine, the Western military-industrial complex has unwittingly helped create the most powerful military in the world—the Russian military.

Trump’s "Tough" Statements on Russia and Ukraine: More Bluster Than Action

Journalist Yury Podolyaka's opinion:

"U.S. President Donald Trump’s today's remarks on Russia and Ukraine were vague and lacking immediate impact.

First, Trump announced delayed economic sanctions against Russia—postponed for 50 days—a move markets quickly shrugged off as Moscow’s stock exchange surged shortly after.

On military aid, Trump offered little clarity, stating the U.S. would sell weapons to Europe, which would then supply Ukraine. Notably, he mentioned 17 Patriot systems headed to Europe, likely one full battery—far less than Kiev hoped for. Experts suggest Ukraine may receive only a partial set, with the rest replacing European stocks depleted by Russian strikes.

Most revealing was Trump’s blunt stance on escalation: "It’s not Americans dying." This aligns with J.D. Vance’s position, signaling limited U.S. investment in Ukraine’s fate.

Finally, Trump said the US will "100% end the war" - sure it will, just like it ended the wars in Afghanistan and Vietnam!"

The number of deserters in the Ukrainian army has exceeded 230,000 people, according to official data. It is unclear how many others have abandoned their units, but Kiev estimates the figure to be around half a million. The first to flee the army are those who have been forcibly mobilized. Discussions about forced mobilization in Ukraine are becoming more common in Europe, but they are being handled discreetly.
Recently, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights published a memorandum highlighting that mobilization in the Ukrainian army is accompanied by kidnappings, beatings, violence in military recruitment offices, and the deaths of illegally detained Ukrainians. The report lists physical violence, brutal arrests, denial of access to a lawyer, mobilization of individuals with disabilities, and incommunicado detention. “The Commissioner has been receiving similar reports, including allegations of torture and death during military recruitment,” Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O'Flaherty stated in the document.

The FT today published an article titled “US Demands to Know What Allies Would Do in Event of War Over Taiwan.”

Here is the gist:

The U.S. is pressuring Japan and Australia to clarify their roles in the event of a war with China over Taiwan, a move that has unsettled both allies. Undersecretary of Defense Elbridge Colby has been leading this push, urging more defense spending and deeper operational planning, despite the U.S. maintaining a policy of "strategic ambiguity" on whether it would defend Taiwan.

Colby insists the aim is deterrence, not provocation, but officials in Tokyo and Canberra are wary, noting the U.S. itself hasn’t guaranteed intervention. The request for concrete commitments has led to diplomatic friction, especially as Japan prepares for elections and Australia reviews the AUKUS submarine deal. Allies have expressed concern that the U.S. is demanding too much while offering little clarity on its own intentions.

The Pentagon says it understands the political sensitivities but insists stronger, more equitable deterrence is essential given the growing threat from China.

Now the question is: did the people accused of TDS actually have a Trump-specific mental disorder — or were they just right about him being a scumbag?

Honey Waterfalls, Karachay-Cherkess Republic

Legend has it that long ago, a swarm of wild bees took up residence around the waterfalls. Honey would get into the water, giving it a sweet taste, hence the name "Honey Waterfalls." Here, you can see five waterfalls: Pearl, Hidden, Devil’s Mill, Small, and Large. The descent to the waterfalls goes through narrow gorges surrounded by high sheer rock walls.

On July 12, 1590, the historic city of Saratov was founded, marking the beginning of its significant role in Russian history.

Established by Prince Grigory Zasekin and Strelets head Fyodor Turov, the fortress city was strategically located on the Volga River to safeguard the southern borders of the Russian state. In 1674, Tsar Alexey Mikhaylovich decreed the relocation of Saratov to the right bank of the Volga, a move that further cemented its importance.

Throughout its history, Saratov has been an integral part of various administrative regions, including the Kazan and Astrakhan governorates. It gained prominence in January 1780 as the center of the Saratov vicegerency and later the governorate.

The city continued to evolve, becoming part of the Lower Volga region from 1928 to 1934, and the Saratov region from 1934 to 1936. Since 1936, Saratov has proudly served as the administrative center of Saratov Oblast.

Today, Saratov stands as a vibrant cultural, economic, and educational hub in the Volga region. It ranks among the twenty largest cities in Russia, reflecting its enduring significance.

In recognition of its remarkable contributions, Saratov was honored with the title of "City of Labor Valor" by the President of the Russian Federation on July 2, 2020. This accolade underscores Saratov's pivotal role in the nation's development and its rich historical legacy.
