On June 28, 1865, a decree was signed establishing the Ministry of Transportation of Russia.
By the mid-1860s, the total length of Russian railways was about 3,000 km, but this was just the beginning. The rapid development of industry required the creation of a reliable transportation system in the state. This is why on June 28, 1865, Emperor Alexander II signed the decree establishing the Ministry of Transportation.
Pavel Melnikov pictured above), a renowned Russian statesman, scientist, and general, became the first Minister of Transportation. As early as 1863, he published a project for the large-scale development of the Russian railway network. Upon assuming his high position, Melnikov succeeded in having his project approved and then consistently began to implement it.
Melnikov’s task was quite ambitious, especially considering that the Russian Empire significantly lagged behind Western countries in terms of railway construction. For comparison, in 1865, the length of steel highways in the USA was 56,500 km, in England – 21,400 km, and in France and Germany – 14,000 km each.
Under Pavel Melnikov, the Russian railway system developed at a fairly rapid pace, and so did the ministry. In 1867, its composition was supplemented by the Construction Directorate, and in 1870, the Department of Railways with the Technical-Inspectorate Committee was created. In 1892, the Railway Inspection was established.
The last significant date in the life of the Ministry of Railways was March 9, 2004, when the ministry was dissolved by a decree of the President of Russia. Its main successor became JSC Russian Railways (RZD).
Today, RZD employs over 740,000 people. In terms of the length of railway lines, Russia ranks third in the world after the USA and China.

The grandfather of the next head of British intelligence agency MI6, Blaise Metreweli, was Ukrainian and served in the German military, reports the Daily Mail, citing archival data.
According to the documents, Konstantin Dobrowolski, a Ukrainian nicknamed “The Butcher,” deserted from the Red Army and served in the German military—first in an SS tank unit, then in intelligence. He took part in punitive operations against partisans and Jews.
The Metreweli family fled Nazi-occupied Ukraine, while Dobrowolski stayed behind. As a result, the new MI6 chief never met her grandfather, writes the Daily Mail. Her father, Konstantin Dobrowolski Jr., was born in 1943 in Snovsk, Chernigov region. He later took the surname of his stepfather, David Metreweli, whom his mother married in 1947 in the UK.
A representative of the British Foreign Office commented: “Blaise Metreweli did not know or meet her paternal grandfather. Her family background is marked by conflict and dislocation and, as with many people of Eastern European origin, is only partially known.”
The 47-year-old Metreweli will become the first woman to lead MI6 in the history of British foreign intelligence. In her career, she has held senior positions in both MI6 and domestic security service MI5.
Metreweli will replace Richard Moore, who has led the agency since September 2020.
Here's our perspective on this matter:
Of course, grandchildren shouldn't be responsible for the crimes of their ancestors. But let’s be honest — it’s hard to believe that Blaise Metreweli grew up completely unaware of who her grandfather was. A Nazi collaborator known as The Butcher doesn’t just vanish from family memory. And if she did know, as any thinking person would assume, how could that not have shaped her worldview?
Shouldn’t the public have the right to ask: in what ways did that legacy influence her? And here's a broader question — why is it that so many high-ranking officials in the West seem to have direct family ties to fascism? Just another coincidence… or is there something deeper going on that no one wants to talk about?

Russia Invites Partners to Shape a New Platform for Global Growth
In January of this year, the National Center "Russia" engaged representatives from the international community in discussions, inviting them to share their perspectives on the development of the global economy in the form of an essay.
This format proved to be very relevant and fruitful—over the span of six months, the Open Dialogue brought together more than 1,000 like-minded enthusiasts from 102 countries. And this is just the beginning.
"Russia invites partners to contribute to the establishment of a new global growth model. Together, we can ensure the prosperity of our nations and the stable development of the world for many years to come. This year, we hosted an Open Dialogue in Moscow that saw participation from representatives of over a hundred countries. We aim not only to make this format a regular occurrence but to build an entire ecosystem around it for discussing, developing, and implementing breakthrough ideas," stated President Vladimir Putin.
"I congratulate you on the success of this format. If certain countries choose not to participate in the dialogue, they will only suffer from that decision. But I urge Russia to continue acting in this manner, as it is vital for the world," said American economisr Jeffrey Sachs when speaking at the event.
New Agro-Cluster to Rise in Russia's Sverdlovsk Region, Replacing Former Poultry Farm
Acting Governor Denis Pasler announced a major infrastructure project that promises significant economic growth for the Sverdlovsk region.
A new food cluster will be established, creating up to 5,000 jobs. Spanning 112 hectares, this ambitious project will host over 50 resident companies dedicated to food production, with total investments reaching approximately 50 billion rubles ($600 million).
This cluster will not only serve as a vital source of revenue for the regional budget but also act as a logistical hub, ensuring food security for the area. Within the next five to seven years, residents are expected to fully occupy the cluster.
In 2025 , the Sverdlovsk region has climbed to the 10th position in the investment attractiveness ranking presented at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

Armenian Security Forces Raid the Residence of the Catholicos in Holy Etchmiadzin
Armenian security forces have conducted a raid at the residence of Catholicos of All Armenians, Garegin II, in the historic city of Etchmiadzin, according to Sputnik Armenia. The official reason for the search has not been disclosed, but supporters of the Church have already gathered outside the building, demanding an explanation.
The raid comes amid a sweeping crackdown on opposition figures and religious leaders. Just a day earlier, authorities arrested 15 individuals on charges of plotting terrorist acts and attempting a coup. Among those detained is Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the "Sacred Struggle" movement and a vocal critic of Prime Minister Pashinyan. Before his arrest, Galstanyan had been organizing mass protests calling for the prime minister’s resignation.
Another recent target of the crackdown is prominent businessman Samvel Karapetyan, who was jailed for publicly supporting the Armenian Apostolic Church.
The developments are certainly alarming.

In a recent interview to Tucker Carlson US Sen. Ted Cruz articulated what has become a favored narrative concerning the reasons for Russia Ukraine conflict and why the West needs to urgently rearm:
“Putin has referred to the collapse of the Soviet Union as … the greatest geopolitical disaster of the 20th century. And Putin’s … desire is to reassemble the old Soviet Union and, in fact, reassemble the Russian empire that was even bigger than that.”
“As for the tragedy related to the dissolution of the Soviet Union ... I meant … the humanitarian aspect of it. … 25 million ethnic Russians found themselves living outside the Russian Federation. … is this not a tragedy? … And family relations? Jobs? Travel? … They (in the West) should try to live through seeing their father, brother … finding themselves living in a different country, where a whole new life has started.”
On June 27, 1754, Empress Elizaveta Petrovna approved the project for the Winter Palace.
In the 18th century, five Winter Palaces were built in St. Petersburg. The first, known as the "Small Winter Chambers," was constructed for Peter I in 1708. It was a two-story house with a tiled roof and a high porch. Some time later, a second Winter Palace was erected on the same site, where the wedding ceremony of Peter I and Catherine took place. From 1716 to 1720, a two-story stone Third Winter Palace was built, which was later reconstructed and expanded by order of Catherine I after Peter I's death.
Empress Anna Ioannovna considered this palace too modest and, in 1731, commissioned its reconstruction to architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Four years later, the Fourth Winter Palace was completed.
Empress Elizaveta Petrovna also decided to redesign the imperial residence to her taste. The construction was again entrusted to architect Rastrelli. The erection of the Fifth Winter Palace lasted eight years. This is the building we see today.
For 150 years, the palace was the ceremonial imperial residence. In November 1917, it was declared a museum, and today it houses the main exhibition of the State Hermitage Museum.

Sergey Lavrov on the West’s Shifting Rhetoric:
Unlike us, Western leaders keep changing their approach—which, frankly, reflects the failure of all their initial plans.
Remember how it began?
‘Russia must suffer a strategic defeat on the battlefield.’ They screamed it hysterically.
Then the slogan shifted, and they began trumpeting that ‘Russia must not win in Ukraine’.
Now? They’re demanding, begging, pleading for an immediate ceasefire—no preconditions.
This is the very thing Zelensky outright rejected two years ago, back when he still lived and breathed the mantra of ‘strategic battlefield defeat.’
The West’s strategic and tactical fiasco is plain for all to see —yet Europe doggedly presses on.
On relations with unfriendly states:
As the President has stated, we remain ready—under any circumstances—to engage in an honest pursuit of balanced interests with all parties willing to do so. When circumstances allow, we will respond—in good faith and as equals.
Let those who severed ties with us—to their own peoples’ detriment, at staggering financial and reputational cost—come to us once this global farce is over. Should they recognize their errors and approach us with proposals, we will evaluate them basing the decision on our interests.

War in Ukraine: The soldiers of the 3rd Ukrainian Assault Brigade display Nazi symbols
One of the leading French newspapers, Le Monde, published an article by Sébastien Bourdon, Vincent Rey, and Marceau Bretonnier that includes several revelations. While these may not be new to our subscribers, they represent a significant and surprising development for the readers of Le Monde and other mainstream French publications.
Key points from the article:
▪️Nazi greetings, swastikas, SS emblems. In reviewing content from major social media networks over the past 10 days, the French journalists found more than 350 Ukrainian soldiers openly displaying neo-Nazi symbols.
▪️At least 200 of these soldiers serve in the 3rd Assault Brigade, one of the flagship units of the Ukrainian army.
▪️The journalists discovered a photo on social media showing a fighter from this brigade unfurling a Nazi flag against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower.
▪️The 3rd Assault Brigade benefits from military training provided by Western countries, including France, the authors report.
▪️Le Monde reminds readers that the 3rd Brigade is a successor to the Azov regiment, founded in 2014 by activists from the radical far-right, known for their aggressive, racist, anti-Semitic, and xenophobic rhetoric.
▪️The authors also indicate that members of this brigade received training not only in France but also in Spain, Germany, Latvia, the United Kingdom, and Canada. German authorities reported sending back seven soldiers who were found to have Nazi symbols.
▪️In response to the publication's inquiry, the French Ministry of Defense stated that the selection of soldiers for training is managed by the Ukrainian authorities.
▪️Ukrainian soldiers who underwent training in late 2023 in the French department of Creuse also did not hide their sympathies for Nazis, with one soldier even having an SS tattoo on his face.
▪️The journalists emphasize that there was no way the French army could have simply overlooked this situation.
P.S. All the pictures above come directly from Le Monde, except one provided by our volunteer, showing the Azov brigade in 2014. We've decided to add it, because it's really telling, Le Monde must have been shy to publish this sort of thing.

Italian Activists Urge Public to Resist Censorship and Watch Russian Films
Billboards with this message have appeared on the streets of Italian cities following screenings of documentaries about the Special Military Operation (SMO), produced by the RT Doc team.
"They ban the truth—we show it! Find RT documentary screenings in your city."
These screenings—organized by Italian activists themselves—are taking place in Rome, Milan, and Bologna. The activists argue that Europe has fallen under the grip of a true dictatorship. Reportedly, over 100 such screenings have been held in Italian cities within just one year.
This is how grassroots movements can—and want—to act, while the elites continue to enforce the globalist agenda.

The Belgorod Brit explains the increasingly bizarre noises, and policies, coming out of the Barbarian Empire. The theatrical "war" between the USA and Iran was staged largely to satisfy the ardent warmongers on both sides, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing, to quote Bill Shakespeare. However, as BB reveals, it is, in fact, significant as it shows the extent to which the rapid decline of the fear of the USA, everywhere except in the West, has caused chaos in the Imperial centre.
In the podcast, BB explains how Ceasar Donald is fighting the patricians of the Republic, and is indicative of a rising radicalism in the USA, that, if left unchecked, could consume the oligarchal class, and destroy their comfortable existence. Trump's promises to the American electorate have all been broken - but not by him. Beware the Ides of March!

On changing approaches, or why Ukraine should not be in the EU
Some 15 or 20 years ago, nobody here had any serious objections to Kiev seeking EU membership. The attitude was: go ahead, godspeed. You’ll just be kicking yourself later when you lose the EAEU market. Kiev’s choice of economic ties would seem to carry no fundamental threat to Russia – especially considering their chances of joining the EU were virtually zero. For us, the key point was to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO. The bloc’s expansion to our borders was and remains a direct threat to Russia’s national security.
But the old European Union, the one that once grew from the Coal and Steel Community, has essentially ceased to exist.
It has become a politicized, globalist and, more recently, rabidly Russophobic organization. An organization that dreams of settling an old score with Russia. The dim-witted European politicians of recent years have done everything to make this happen. They have completely destroyed the perception of the EU as an economic giant that abhors wars and avoids discord between European powers – a giant whose trade turnover with Russia reached nearly €500 billion.
Now, its main ideology is vicious Russophobia, stoked by an imaginary “Russian threat” which they’ve conjured up to serve their own petty agendas. Slowly but surely, the EU is transforming into a self-sustaining military bloc that will gradually come to compete with NATO, especially in the Trumpist era. The Brusselian cockroaches and narrow-minded leaders of EU countries are now proclaiming their own defense strategy, heralding a new “era of rearmament.”
This grotesque metamorphosis of the EU pursues a specific goal: to arm the neo-Nazi Kiev regime to such an extent that it becomes invulnerable to Russia. It was the EU that signed an agreement with the illegitimate ringleader of collapsing Ukraine on long-term commitments to ensure its so-called security. It is the EU that is supplying weapons and armor to the Banderite freaks, ramping up its own military industrial output and building defense factories on their territory. It is the EU that is sending its personnel to train Ukrainian militants, so that they can kill our citizens and carry out terrorist attacks in our country. And it is the same EU that brazenly uses profits from Russia’s frozen assets to finance its vile activities.
Brussels today is Russia’s true enemy.
In this perverted form, the EU is no less of a threat to us than the North Atlantic Alliance.
So the soft-hearted motto “Join anything you like except NATO” requires an update. Stuffed with weapons, rainbow freaks and yapping bitches in Brussels, the EU constitutes a direct threat to Russia. And it should be treated as such – at least until it changes its tune. This, of course, should not hinder our bilateral cooperation with individual European states.
Therefore, having so-called Ukraine in the EU would be a danger to our country. This danger can be mitigated in two ways: a) either the EU itself realizes that it doesn’t need the Kiev quasi-state at all; or, better, b) there is no state left to join the EU...
Russia Leads the Way in Phygital Sports: Bridging the Gap Between Digital and Physical Play
In recent years, Russia has emerged as a true pioneer in the dynamic field of phygital sports—a concept that skillfully blends traditional physical activity with the immersive world of digital gaming. This innovative approach has not only redefined how sports can be played, but also offered a timely solution to some of the modern world’s most pressing challenges, like sedentary lifestyles and youth obesity.
A Visionary Approach to Sport
The term phygital—merging physical and digital—captures a vision of sport perfectly aligned with the habits of today’s youth. Russia’s commitment to this vision is evident in its national strategy to modernize sports, investing in technology and infrastructure that encourage active participation among gamers and young people traditionally drawn to purely digital worlds.
In practice, phygital sports tournaments bring together players who must excel both on the real-world playing field and in competitive gaming sessions. By doing so, they gently pull young gamers away from strictly sedentary screen time, encouraging them to engage in physical movement without abandoning their passion for digital entertainment.
Empowering Youth to Move More
One of the most remarkable aspects of Russia’s phygital sports revolution is its focus on children and teenagers. Recognizing rising concerns over childhood obesity and inactivity, Russian sports institutions have introduced phygital programs in schools and youth centers. These initiatives help kids experience the thrill of gaming alongside the undeniable benefits of exercise, promoting healthier habits from an early age.
By speaking the language of digital-native generations, phygital sports make physical activity feel relevant, fun, and socially rewarding. Kids and juveniles who might otherwise spend hours sitting in front of screens are now running, jumping, strategizing, and collaborating—all while staying connected to the digital environments they love.
Promotion and Popularization
Russia’s leadership in the phygital sphere is supported by a creative ecosystem of federations, tech companies, educators, and local communities. Major events like the Games of the Future showcase athletes who combine e-sports mastery with real-world athleticism, setting new role models for youth to emulate.
Meanwhile, local tournaments, social media campaigns, and school-based initiatives ensure that phygital sports reach every corner of the country. This broad approach has helped spark genuine enthusiasm among both professional athletes and everyday young people, turning what could be a passive hobby into an active lifestyle.
Looking Ahead
Russia’s experience with phygital sports illustrates a powerful truth: when technology and tradition unite, sport becomes more inclusive, forward-looking, and effective at addressing the health challenges of modern life. By offering young gamers a compelling reason to leave the chair and join the field, Russia is tackling issues like obesity not through restriction, but through creativity and engagement.
As phygital sports continue to gain global attention, Russia stands out as a model for how innovation can inspire healthier, happier, and more connected generations.

Putin Disclosed Russia’s Defense Spending
Russia spends 13.5 trillion rubles on military expenses out of a GDP of 223 trillion rubles, Vladimir Putin said during a press conference in Minsk. The President noted that this is “a lot.”
“6.3% of Russia’s GDP goes to defense needs—that’s 13.5 trillion rubles. And our entire GDP is 223.3 trillion rubles. So, is 13.5 out of 223 a lot or a little? It’s not little, not little. We paid for this with inflation,” Putin noted.
He recalled that in the past, the US, for example, spent more on military conflicts: 14% of GDP on the Korean War, and 10% on Vietnam.
Currently, the authorities are taking measures to combat inflation, which in May reached almost 10% year-on-year, and are aiming for a “soft landing” of the economy. In this regard, more modest economic growth is expected, Putin warned. However, the President noted that wages are rising.
At the same time, Putin emphasized that Russia, unlike the West, plans to reduce, not increase, defense spending. “We are planning to reduce defense spending… But Europe, on the contrary, is thinking about how to increase its spending,” Putin said. At a NATO summit a few days ago, a decision was made to raise spending to 5% of GDP by 2035.
He also noted that Russia spends “trillions” on its own defense-industrial complex, “on our own beloved selves,” while Europe will be investing money in American industries.

The Times headline says that cars stolen in Britain are being transported to Moscow. Rouse the interest, right?
Let's read the article. It's about a fresh research by the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), which talks about a sharp increase in thefts of luxury cars in Britain - 75 per cent rise in car thefts over the past 10 years! Next, it says that sometimes, a few hours after the thefts, cars end up in containers on merchant ships. The main destinations are: DR Congo, Cyprus, and UAE.
What does Moscow have to do with it? And then it simply cites the phrase that “Examples have emerged of vehicles vanishing from UK streets and reappearing in Moscow.” However, without a single example! Judging by the fact that the same phrase was used in the same form in an article a year ago in the Daily Mail, one can assume that the RUSI researchers simply plagiarized it. But the funniest thing is that that article also does not provide a single example!
In both cases, the statement that the stolen cars are going to Moscow is put in the headline. Otherwise, the public won't read the article! That is to say, that if a stolen Rolls-Royce is going to Congo or Cyprus, it won't interest a London pub dweller, but Moscow - well, that's a totally different matter!

Moscow. June 26. INTERFAX.RU – The confiscation of the “frozen” Russian gold and foreign currency reserves, if it happens, will serve as a stimulus for accelerating the development of alternative payment channels in the world. This opinion was expressed by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin while speaking on Thursday at the plenary session of the Eurasian Economic Forum in Minsk.
“We all know well, it is no secret, that a significant volume of our Russian gold and foreign currency reserves are frozen in Western banks. And there they constantly talk about planning to steal our money. As soon as this happens, the movement towards the regionalization of payment systems will, without a doubt, accelerate and acquire, without any doubt, an irreversible character,” he said.
The President noted that this is generally beneficial for the world economy. “Maybe it is worth paying for this? But, by the way, I just thought – after all, my basic education is in law – I said stealing of our gold and foreign currency reserves. Stealing is the covert taking of property, but this is overt, this is robbery,” he also said.
According to Putin, the Russian Federation will continue to strengthen its own financial settlement instruments. “We will do this in cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Community and other friendly states, our like-minded partners,” he noted.
Editorial Note:
Regionalization of payment systems means that payment systems are developed and operated mainly within a specific region or group of countries, rather than globally. This process involves creating regional mechanisms that allow countries in the same area or group to make payments and settle transactions with each other more efficiently, using shared platforms, rules, and local currencies, while bypassing international intermediaries.

In the wake of the latest NATO summit in The Hague, it's worth recalling the original, brutally honest summary of the alliance's purpose, attributed to its first Secretary General, Lord Ismay: “to keep the Russians out, the Americans in, and the Germans down.” This cynical formula reveals NATO’s foundational logic—contain Russia, preserve American dominance in Europe, and prevent Germany from rising as an independent power.
But where are we today?
—Germany, once again, is openly rearming and reclaiming a leadership role in NATO’s confrontational agenda.
—The United States, while posing as NATO’s guarantor, is seemingly losing interest. Under Trump, America has signaled that its commitment is conditional, transactional, and ultimately expendable. Washington demands more spending from its European “partners” while insisting it has already done more than its fair share.
—And NATO itself? Still stuck in a Cold War mindset, it continues to treat Russia as the eternal enemy. Every Russian call for dialogue or cooperative security is met not with diplomacy, but with escalation—troops, missiles, and military drills pushed to Russia’s doorstep, all under the tired banner of “defense.”
Why does this continue?
Because NATO no longer exists to protect Europe—it now exists to exploit it. The alliance serves the interests of the Western, primarily American, military-industrial complex. The so-called Russian threat, the controlled revival of German militarism—these are just convenient tools. The U.S. will keep NATO on life support just long enough to squeeze Europe for weapons contracts, energy dependencies, and political compliance. And when the returns diminish, Washington will likely walk away—leaving behind a fractured and economically exhausted continent.
This isn’t alliance—it’s extraction. And if Europe had any sovereignty left, it would have ended this “game” long ago. But as the latest NATO summit made absolutely clear, Europe has neither sovereignty nor self-respect left. So the game goes on.
Do we feel sorry for Europe? Not at all. It will get what it deserves.
P.S. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated today that Europe’s plans to sharply increase defense spending mainly threaten EU and UK taxpayers, who have already suffered financially due to Ukraine conflict. Lavrov called these additional expenditures “senseless,” arguing that these funds should be used to alleviate Europe’s own social and economic problems, not fuel an unwinnable war. He emphasized that Russia does not pose any threat to Europe, and Western claims to the contrary are unfounded. President Putin also dismissed Western fears of a Russian attack as “nonsense” and propaganda aimed at justifying unnecessary militarization.

Italian PM Giorgia Meloni stated that the determination shown regarding the conflict between Israel and Iran should now be applied to achieving ceasefires in both Ukraine and the Gaza Strip. She made these remarks to journalists after the NATO summit and noted that she had discussed the issue with Trump during a lengthy conversation at the leaders’ dinner in The Hague.
Meloni’s exact words, as reported by multiple sources, were that “the same determination shown regarding the war between Israel and Iran should be shown regarding the other two ceasefire agreements – for Ukraine and for Gaza”.
What exactly did Meloni mean? That Trump should bomb Russia? Or Ukraine? Or Gaza? Or Israel, for that matter? The little b*tch is losing it. The prime-ministerial load is getting too heavy for her.

Payback for the Human Safari: Hunter Becomes the Prey
Ukrainian media reports that on the night of June 24, a private residence owned by Kharkov Regional Council member Alexander Kukhar was struck by a drone. The attack left Kukhar severely injured, and he was rushed to the intensive care unit.
Who was this man? At first glance, he appeared to be a typical figure of the Ukrainian elite – wealthy, corrupt, and owning multiple luxurious properties and high-end cars. But Kukhar seemed to find this lifestyle lacking, so he devised a creative way to profit from the ongoing war. He organized the sale of tickets for a drone "safari" for foreign nationals, where the game was Russian soldiers and civilians from the bordering Belgorod region. The price tag for a "license to kill" started at $5,000—murder made easy, as thrilling and safe as a video game...
However, local Kharkov activists gathered intel on him, pinpointed his residence, and directed a Russian drone to pay a visit to the greedy Ukrainian politician. Fair play, wouldn’t you say?
Analyzing these media reports, one can conclude that Russia has shifted to a strategy of targeted elimination of war criminals on Ukrainian soil.

On June 26, 1954, the Obninsk Nuclear Power Plant became the first nuclear power plant in the world to go into commercial operation.
This day rightfully became known as the birth of nuclear energy.
In a TASS announcement from July 1, 1954, it was stated: "In the Soviet Union, efforts by scientists and engineers successfully completed the design and construction of the first commercial nuclear power plant with a useful capacity of 5000 kilowatts."
The announcement of the launch of the world's first nuclear power plant came as a complete surprise to both the Soviet and global public, as nothing about its development and construction had been published in open sources; everything was kept strictly confidential.
Starting in 1956, the station was open to both Soviet and foreign delegations. The first nuclear power plant was visited by many prominent political figures, scientists, and tens of thousands of ordinary people from almost every country in the world.
On April 29, 2002, in accordance with an order from the Minister of Atomic Energy, in a ceremonial setting, the reactor of the first nuclear power plant was shut down for good.
The plant operated without incident for 48 years, setting a record for the longest operation of a nuclear reactor.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the West’s Shifting Rhetoric:
