PART #2A:

How to prepare for Ramaḍhaan:

The Muslims, on days like these, before the advent of the month of Ramaḍhaan, should prepare for the arrival of Ramaḍhaan with two essential things.

a) The first of these two essential things is that a Believer should intend and be resolute to obey Allaah.

The Prophet ﷺ said: ❝Verily the reward of deeds depends upon the intention, and verily every person will get the reward according to what he has intended.❞ [1]

Ibn Mufliḥ reported: Abdullaah, the son of Imaam Aḥmad, said to his father one day: “O father, instruct me.” Imaam Aḥmad رحمه الله said: “O my son, intend to do good, for you will continue to be upon goodness as long as you intend good.” [2]

A person should intend to do good and be determined. The intention is the first pillar of every good deed. A person will receive a reward for his sincere intention even if his actions have some deficiencies. Rather, if a person intends to do a righteous good deed, but something prevents him from carrying it out, like sickness, traveling, etc., Allaah تعالى will still write a reward for him – because of his sincere intention – even if he did not act upon it.

The Prophet ﷺ said: ❝When a slave of Allaah falls ill or goes on a journey, then he will receive a reward similar to the good deeds that he used to do when he was not traveling and was in good health.❞ [3]

And from the mercy of Allaah عز وجل upon this Ummah specifically is that they are rewarded for their intentions.

Allaah’s Messenger ﷺ said: ❝Allaah says: {If My slave intends to do a bad deed then (O Angels) do not write it unless he does it; if he does it, then write it as it is, but if he refrains from doing it for My Sake, then write it as a good deed (in his account). (On the other hand), if he intends to do a good deed but does not do it, then write a good deed (in his account), and if he does it, then write it for him (in his account) as ten good deeds up to seven hundred times.}❞ [4]

Allaah’s Messenger ﷺ said: ❝He who intended to do good but did not do it, one good was recorded for him, and he who intended to do good and also did it, ten to seven hundred good deeds were recorded for him. And he who intended evil, but did not commit it, no entry was made against his name, but if he committed that, it was recorded.❞ [5]

This is from the mercy of Allaah upon this Ummah, which is weak in its body and short in its age. Compared to the previous nations, this Ummah is physically weaker and has a shorter lifespan. Nooh عليه السلام called the people towards the worship of Allaah for nine-hundred and fifty years, and he lived longer than this. He lived before he received the Prophethood, and he lived after the great flood.

The most important thing is that the person should always intend to do good deeds. This is because he will be rewarded for his sincere intention and determination, even if he is prevented from doing good deeds.

PART #1:

How to prepare for Ramaḍhaan:

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

The month of Ramaḍhaan is approaching fast; there are only a few days left before this blessed month dawns upon us. It is a month in which everyone competes and races to achieve Taqwa (piety) and do their best to amass a lot of good deeds. Not an opportunity goes by except that they are at the forefront to help others, and not a moment goes by except that they try to seek rewards from Allaah. The sun does not rise except that they prepare themselves to Fast in it, and the sun does not set except that they beseech Allaah for forgiveness. It is the month in which Imaan (Faith) intensifies, Yaqeen (Certitude) magnifies, and Inqiyaad (submission) blossoms.

The virtues of this blessed month are too numerous to incorporate here. However, to make the most of this precious opportunity, we’ll narrow the focus to the following points.

1. The Prophet ﷺ used to give glad tidings to his Companions at the advent of this month and remind them about its virtues and importance:

The Prophet ﷺ: said: ❝There has come to you Ramaḍhaan, a blessed month.❞ [1]

When the Prophet ﷺ saw used to see the new moon, he would say: ❝
O Allaah, bring it over us with blessing and faith, and with security and Islaam. My Lord and your Lord is Allaah.❞ [2]

The Angels say: “He who desires what is good, come forward! And he who desires evil, refrain!” [3]

Ibn Rajab رحمه الله reported that Mu`laa Ibn Faḍhal said: “For six months (before Ramaḍhaan), they (the Salaf – pious predecessors) used to pray to Allaah to let them reach Ramaḍhaan. And for six months (after Ramaḍhaan), they used to pray to Allaah to accept it (i.e., their good deeds in Ramaḍhaan) from them.” [4]

Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله said: “There is nothing wrong with (greeting and congratulating others in this month). I do not know of anything wrong with it because it is a blessed month in which there is great goodness. So there is nothing wrong with congratulating one another on it. And all praises are for Allaah alone.” [5]

Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله also said: “I do not know of any specific way to welcome Ramaḍhaan, other than for the Muslim to welcome it with joy, happiness, and delight, and to thank Allaah for letting him reach Ramaḍhaan, and for granting him success and making him one of the living who competes in righteous deeds. Indeed, reaching Ramaḍhaan is a great blessing from Allaah. For this reason, the Prophet ﷺ used to give his companions the glad tidings of the arrival of Ramaḍhaan, explaining its virtues and the great reward that Allaah has prepared for those who Fast and stand in prayer. It is prescribed for the Muslim to welcome this blessed month with sincere repentance and to prepare for its Fasting and standing in prayer with a good intention and sincere resolution.” [6]

FOOTNOTES:
[1] The complete narration: The Prophet ﷺ: said: ❝There has come to you Ramaḍhaan, a blessed month, which Allaah عز وجل has enjoined you to Fast. In it, the gates of heavens are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and every devil is chained up. In it, Allaah has a night that is better than a thousand months; whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived.❞
[Sunan al-Nasaa’ee (2106) from the Ḥadeeth of Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه, and graded as “Ṣaḥeeḥ” by Shaikh al-Albaanee. Also reported in Musnad Ahmad (7148, 8991, 8992, and 9497) and the verifiers of Musnad Ahmad also graded it as “Saheeh”. And a similar narration has been reported from Anas رضي الله عنه in Sunan Ibn Maajah (1644) and graded as “Hasan-Ṣaḥeeḥ” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]
[2] Sunan al-Tirmidhee (3451) and graded as “Ṣaḥeeḥ li Ghairihee” (authentic due to corroborating evidence) by Shaikh al-Albaanee. See al-Saheehah (1816). This supplication is not specific for sighting the new moon for the month of Ramaḍhaan but it is general for sighting the new moon for every month of the Hijri year.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
❝Those people who get up from a gathering in which they did not remember Allaah will be just as if they had got up from (a gathering) similar to that of the carcass of a donkey, and it will be a cause of grief to them.❞ [1]

2. The statement of the Prophet ﷺ said: ❝from the rotten carcass of a donkey❞, i.e., a gathering similar to the rotten carcass of a donkey having a foul odor, filthy, and repugnant. The person who does not remember Allaah is compared to a dead. The gathering void of remembrance of Allaah is compared to a dead donkey. When there is bad and reprehensible speech like backbiting and slandering, then it is compared to eating the flesh of a dead person.

💠Narration #16

Imaam al-Bukhaaree رحمه الله said in his Saheeh: “Whoever gives in charity and he himself or his family are in need or in debt, the payment of debts has precedence over giving in charity or setting a slave free, or giving presents to others, for in such case his act of charity will not be accepted, and that person has no right to waste the people’s property. And the Prophet ﷺ said: ❝Allaah will destroy the person who takes other’s wealth with the intention of wasting it.❞ But if one is known for his patience and prefers others to himself while he himself is in need, as Abu Bakr did when he gave all his property in charity, it is permissible. Similarly, the Ansaar gave preference to the emigrants over themselves. And the Prophet had forbidden the wasting of wealth, so, a person has no right to waste other’s wealth by spending it in charity.”
📚[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (2/112), Kitaab al-Zakaah (24), Chapter (18)]

In Surah al-Nisaa’, in just two Ayaat, Allaah تعالى reminds four times that the inheritance is to be distributed only after the debt has been settled:

مِن بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ يُوصِي بِهَا أَوْ دَيْنٍ

{(The distribution in all cases is) after the payment of legacies he may have bequeathed or (repaying of) debts}

The statement of the Prophet ﷺ: ❝and no person walks a path - in which he does not remember Allaah - except that it will be a cause of regret for him❞; [1]

These Aḥaadeeth emphasize the importance of remembering Allaah in gatherings, while walking, before going to bed, etc. And Allaah تعالى said:

{And when you have completed al-Ṣalaah (prayer), remember Allaah standing, sitting, or (lying) on your sides.} [2]

From this, we learn that we should try our best to remember Allaah at every moment of our lives: before going to bed, after waking up, while walking, on the way to work, in gatherings, in seclusions, etc.

{Say, "Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allaah, Lord of the worlds.} [3]

While walking, a person remembers Allaah and ponders over the Aayaat (Verses and Signs of Allaah):

الَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَىٰ جُنُوبِهِمْ وَيَتَفَكَّرُونَ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَٰذَا بَاطِلًا سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
{Those who remember Allaah while standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): “Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, Glory to You! (Exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.} [4]

In the gatherings, the person remembers Allaah and reminds others about Allaah. For example, he reminds them it is time for prayer, stops them from backbiting, or corrects their mistakes. As Allaah تعالى mentioned in the Qur’aan:

{And when you see those who engage in (offensive) discourse concerning Our Aayaat, then turn away from them until they enter into another conversation. And if Shaitaan should cause you to forget, then - after the recollection - do not remain with the wrongdoing people. And those who fear Allaah are not held accountable for them in any case, but (their duty) is to remind them, that they may (avoid that and) fear Him} [5]

When a person realizes that his most precious asset is “time”, then it becomes his responsibility to utilize this time in a most profitable manner, i.e., by spending much time in the remembrance of Allaah عز وجل, so that he does not come to Allaah on the Day of Resurrection bankrupt, broken, and ruined, for it be will be a source of great regret and remorse for him, on the Day when remorse will be of no use, as Allaah تعالى said:

فَنَادَوا وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍ
{They cried out when it was too late to escape}

Meaning: When the destruction comes, it is too late, and the time is over. That is not the time for them to be saved from what they had fallen into, and there was no escape from what had befallen them. So, let these people beware lest the same fate befalls them as befell those earlier nations if they persist in their arrogance and stubborn defiance.

The Most Merciful Lord said:

The Most-Beneficent and Most-Merciful has opened for you the door of repentance.

He has covered your faults while you still commit sins.

So, do you think He تعالى will expose you when you turn to Him in repentance?

So, turn to Allaah in repentance, seeking His forgiveness, fearing His punishment, be dutiful to Him and perform prayers.

Allaah تعالى has opened the door of repentance for His servants so that they do not despair of His Mercy.

If you have committed a sin, then erase the traces of your sins through repentance.

⚡ Fear the supplication of the oppressed. You might not see it coming (quickly), but when it does come, you won’t find respite or escape.

👉HADEETH #1
The Prophet ﷺ said:

❝Beware of oppression, for oppression will be excessive darkness on the Day of Judgment.❞
📚[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (2447) and Saheeh Muslim (2578, 2579) and the wordings are his]

👉HADEETH #2
The Prophet ﷺ sent Muaadh to Yemen and said: ❝Beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for indeed there is no barrier between his supplication and Allaah.❞
📚[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (1496, 2448, 3059, 4347) and Saheeh Muslim (19)]

🌴🌴🌴

Some examples of how strongly the supplication of the oppressed is answered:

👉HADEETH #3
Narrated Jaabir bin Samurah: The People of Koofaa complained against Sad to Umar and the Umar dismissed him and appointed Ammaar as their chief. They lodged many complaints against Sad and even they alleged that he did not pray properly. Umar sent for him and said: “O Abaa Is-haaq! These people claim that you do not pray properly.” Sad said: "By Allaah, I used to pray with them a prayer similar to that of Allaah's Messenger ﷺ and I never reduced anything of it. I used to prolong the first two Rakaat of Ishaa prayer and shorten the last two Rakaat.” Umar said: “O Abaa Is-haaq, this was what I thought about you.” And then he sent one or more persons with him to Koofaa so as to ask the people about him. So they went there and did not leave any Masjid without asking about him. All the people praised him till they came to the Masjid of the tribe of Banee Abs; one of the men called Usama bin Qataadah with a surname of Aba Sada stood up and said: “As you have put us under an oath; I am bound to tell you that Sad never went himself with the army and never distributed (the war booty) equally and never did justice in legal verdicts.” (On hearing it) Sad said: "I pray to Allaah for three things: O Allaah! If this slave of yours is a liar and got up for showing off, give him a long life, increase his poverty and put him to trials.” (And so it happened). Later on when that person was asked how he was, he used to reply that he was an old man in trial as the result of Sad's curse. Abdul Malik, the sub narrator, said that he had seen him afterwards and his eyebrows were overhanging his eyes owing to old age and he used to tease and hit the small girls in the way.
📚[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (755)]

👉HADEETH #4
Urwah Ibn al-Zubair رضي الله عنهما reported: Arwa bint Aus brought a suit against Saeed Ibn Zaid Ibn Amr Ibn Nufail رضي الله عنه. She complained to Marwaan Ibn al-Hakam that he (Saeed) had wrongfully taken possession of a portion of her land. Saeed said: “How can I take a portion out of her land while I have heard a denunciation from the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ.” Marwaan asked him: “What did you hear from the Messenger of Allaah?” He said: “I heard the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ saying: ❝He who takes a span of land unjustly will be made to wear seven earths round his neck on the Day of Resurrection.❞” Marwaan said to him: “I don't seek any more proof from you after this.” Saeed supplicated: “O Allaah! If she is a liar, deprive her of her eye sight and cause her to die in her land.” Urwah said: “She did not die till she became blind. While she was walking in her land (concerning which the dispute arose) she fell down into a pit and died.”
📚[Saheeh Muslim (1610). In another narration of Saheeh Muslim, Muhammad Ibn Zaid Ibn Abdullah Ibn Umar said that he had seen Arwa blind, feeling for on the walls with her hand and saying: “I am ruined by the curse of Sa`eed.” Later she fell in a well in the same disputed land and died.]

Instead of complaining about the delay in response to the supplications, we should concentrate on the reasons for the delay.

1. It could be that Allaah loves you and loves to hear your pleas. Then He تعالى will give you all that will please your heart.

2. It could be that you did not praise Allaah nor send blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ before starting the supplication.

3. It could be that the thing that you supplicated for is harmful or bad for you.

4. It could be that you only supplicate in times of need and ignore to praise Allaah in times of ease.

5. It could be that you are impatient while supplicating and you are not constant. You are expecting your supplications to be answered the moment you raise your hands. You are expecting it to be answered when you want it and how you want it.

6. It could be that you are uncertain or have doubts about Allaah while supplicating. Remember, you do not test Allaah. It is Allaah who tests you.

7. We miss out on the best times in which supplications are answered: a) in the last third of the night, b) in Sujood, c) between Adhaan and Iqaamah, d) in the final Tashahhud before the Tasleem, e) when it rains, f) when one is traveling, g) when one is in distress.

8. It could be that you lack concentration while supplicating.

9. It could be that your income is unlawful (Haraam), or your food and drink are unlawful (like eating pork, drinking wine, or something that is stolen). Some people have allowed Ribaa upon themselves (they wage war against Allaah and expect Allaah to respond to their supplications). Scholars have even warned against those who go late to work and leave early.

The meaning of the word: "Tawbah"

The word “Tawbah” literally means “turning back”.

Since, sin puts distance between the soul and Allaah سبحانه و تعالى, during repentance the servant turns back to Allaah سبحانه و تعالى, seeking refuge in His forgiveness. And when a soul repents and returns to Him, Allaah سبحانه و تعالى turns back to His servant in acceptance and forgiveness. Thus Allaah سبحانه و تعالى has named Himself “at-Tawwaab”, the constant Acceptor of Repentance and sometimes translated as “the Oft-Returning”.

🌟 It is an honor from Allaah تعالى when He protects His slaves from falling into sins

If Allaah comes in between you and a sin, then you will overcome that desire to sin - and Allaah has saved you from falling into it.

By Allaah, the One there is no One worthy of being worshiped except Him! Allaah does not save a person from committing a sin – over which the person has the ability to carry it out – except when that person enjoys a high status with Allaah. It is an honor from Allaah that He تعالى saved him from falling into that sin.

Allaah تعالى said:

{And indeed she did desire him and he would have inclined to her desire, had he not seen the evidence of his Lord.}
📚[Surah Yusuf (12): 24]

Then Allaah تعالى said:

{Thus it was, that We might turn away from him evil and illegal sexual intercourse.}
📚[Surah Yusuf (12): 24]

It is Allaah تعالى Who had saved him from falling into that sin.

Then Allaah تعالى said:

{Surely, he was one of Our chosen, guided slaves.}
📚[Surah Yusuf (12): 24]

This is the status which Allaah gives to whoever of His slaves He تعالى Wills.

And be upon certainty and have assurance, that whenever Allaah تعالى protects you from falling into a sin, and you sincerely thank Allaah for that, except that Allaah تعالى will protect and save you from things that are more severe than it – in this world and the Hereafter. And He تعالى will elevate your status, purify your body and soul, and make you enter the Jannah.

The highest honor that you can enjoy with Allaah is that Allaah تعالى becomes your Walee (protector, ally) and takes charge of your affairs.

{No doubt! Verily, the Auliyaa’ of Allaah no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve - those who believed (in the Oneness of Allaah), and used to fear Allaah much (by abstaining from evil deeds and sins and by doing righteous deeds).}
📚[Surah Yunus (10):62-63]

And when Allaah تعالى becomes the Walee of someone, He تعالى will never allow them or their work to be lost – whether they are males or females.

A father does not allow his children to be lost (i.e., go to waste), a teacher does not allow his students to go to waste, a mother does not allow her small ones to go to waste, so, what about Allaah – the Owner of Majesty and Honor?! He تعالى will never allow His Auliyaa’ to be lost!

The highest honor that you can enjoy with Allaah is that Allaah تعالى becomes your Walee. So, get up in the nights, and offer the night prayers of whatever Allaah تعالى has allowed you to offer, and beseech Him, saying:

وتولني فِيمَن توليت

❝And turn to me in friendship among those on whom You have turned in friendship❞

⁉️ What distress is going to harm you when you know that Allaah is your protector and has taken charge of your affairs?

Do not despair of Allaah’s Mercy:

In the Qur’aan, Allaah تعالى mentioned the faults and mistakes of his Prophets, not because He تعالى wanted to humiliate or dishonor them, but so that the people could connect and relate to them, and not despair and lose hope in His Mercy.

When a person commits a sin or does something really bad, and he now wants to repent, Shaitaan approaches him and says to him: “How do you expect Allaah to forgive you after you have done such a Major sin?”, or “Do you think you will be forgiven after you have done such-and-such?”

Whenever a person will try to repent, Shaitaan will keep stirring such doubts in his heart to discourage him from turning to Allaah in repentance and from seeking His forgiveness.

So, when you read in the Qur’aan that Aadam عليه السلام disobeyed Allaah while he was in Paradise, or when Yunus عليه السلام left his people and went off in anger, this helps in dispersing and weakening the plots of Shaitaan and getting rid of his evil whispers.

And here it becomes clear to us the Wisdom of Allaah. Allaah تعالى did not mention the mistakes of his Prophets to humiliate them, but He تعالى did so, so that the people get encouraged to turn to Allaah in repentance, and not despair of His Mercy.

🌟 (6.12) Explanation Of Hisn Al-Muslim: Merits Of Dhikr
*Hadeeth*: The Prophet ﷺ said:

مَا جَلَسَ قَوْمٌ مَجْلِسًا لَمْ يَذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ فِيهِ، وَلَمْ يُصَلُّوا عَلَى نَبِيِّهِمْ، إِلَّا كَانَ عَلَيْهِمْ تِرَةً، فَإِنْ شَاءَ عَذَّبَهُمْ وَإِنْ شَاءَ غَفَرَ لَهُمْ

❝No group sits in a gathering in which they do not remember Allaah nor send Ṣalaah upon their Prophet, except it will be a source of remorse for them. If He تعالى wills, He will punish them, and if He wills, He will forgive them.❞

The Prophet ﷺ said:
❝If anyone sits at a place (or a gathering) where he does not remember Allaah, deprivation will descend on him from Allaah. If he lies in a place where he does not remember Allaah, deprivation will descend on him from Allaah.❞ [1]

Explanation:
#3. And the statement of the Prophet ﷺ: ❝deprivation will descend on him from Allaah❞, the Arabic word “Tirah” means loss and deprivation. As in the saying of Allaah

{and never will (Allaah) deprive you of [the reward of] your deeds} [2]

And in the saying of the Prophet ﷺ:
الَّذِي تَفُوتُهُ صَلاَةُ العَصْرِ، كَأَنَّمَا وُتِرَ أَهْلَهُ وَمَالَهُ
❝Whoever misses the al-
Asr prayer (intentionally) is as though he has been deprived of his family and property.❞ [3]

Every opportunity one misses to do more good deeds and earn more rewards is a loss, which will be a source of regret for the person on the Day of Resurrection. [4] [5]

NOTES:
[1] Sunan Abu Dawood (4859), and graded as “Ḥasan-Ṣaḥeeḥ” by Shaikh al-Albaanee. See al-Ṣaḥeeḥah (78), Ṣaḥeeḥ al-Jaami` (6043, 6477), and Ṣaḥeeḥ a-Targheeb (611, 1512)
[2] Surah Muḥammad (47):35
[3] Ṣaḥeeḥ al-Bukhaaree (552, 3602) and Ṣaḥeeḥ Muslim (626-200 & 201, 2886-11)
[4] A person had the opportunity to increase his good deeds, but he missed the chance either due to laziness, negligence, or ignorance. So, whatever he did not earn of the good deeds is a loss. In business terms, it is also referred to as a “Loss of Profit”, i.e., the difference between what he earned and what he could have earned is a “loss.” Example: A person who is in the habit of rushing out of the Masjid after praying only the Farḍh (obligatory) prayers and does not do the Adhkaar after the prayers. So, on the Day of Judgment, when he would see others getting rewards for their good deeds, he would regret missing out on the opportunity. This will be further discussed in the explanation of the next Ḥadeeth,

👉Oppress not even when you are capable...
For oppression in the end leads to regret.

👉Beware O brother of the Duaa of the oppressed...
That you may not be struck by the arrows of the night (i.e. Du

👉You might be sleeping while the oppressed is awake...
Praying against you, and the eyes of Allaah do not sleep.

👉 No doubt that with the prayers of the oppressed - are opened for you...
The doors of shame, humiliation and suffering.

❝There will be Hannaat (hardship, calamities, corruption) and issues that are dubious. So you must be patient and refrain from hastiness. It is better that you are a follower in good than a leader in evil.❞

👉 What do you think....

1️⃣If making Wudhoo’ (ablution) is a means for forgiveness…
2️⃣…and walking to (the Masjid for offering) the Salaah raises your rank and effaces your (minor) sins…
3️⃣…and your waiting for the Salaah after having offered the Salaah is like Ribaat (guarding the frontier)…
4️⃣…and the supplication made between the Adhaan and Iqaamah is not rejected…
5️⃣…and after you have offered the Salaah, the Angels supplicate for you…

🌟…then what do you think will be the reward of offering the Salaah itself?
