Bitnomial, which is regulated by the SEC’s sister agency the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, filed for the XRP US Dollar Futures contract in August following the conclusion of the SEC’s lawsuit against blockchain payments firm Ripple, where a federal judge ruled against the SEC’s claim that XRP is a security.
According to Bitnomial’s lawsuit, the SEC contacted the exchange shortly after the filing, claiming that XRP Futures are "security futures" that are subject to joint SEC and CFTC jurisdiction, and that Bitnomial would be violating federal securities laws if it proceeded with the listing.

South Korea's Financial Services Commission said it will investigate the market monopoly structure of Upbit, South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchange.

A new US government filing suggests that Bitfinex may be the sole entity eligible for restitution in connection with the 2016 hack that resulted in the theft of approximately 120,000 BTC.
Bitfinex’s LEO token jumped 15% to $7.2 following the release of the documents.
Following the hack, Bitfinex reduced all customer account balances by 36% to distribute the losses incurred. In compensation, the exchange issued BFX tokens to customers, who could sell, redeem, or exchange them. By April 2017, all BFX tokens had been redeemed, with some customers opting to receive shares in Bitfinex’s parent company, iFinex.
