How do we protect DAOs against Humpy, who recently humped $25M from Compound?
Remember this ain't Humpy's first rodeo - he's hit Sushi, Balance, and others in the past. And while there's a debate on whether it's a governance attack, we know that governance attacks are a longstanding issue for DAOs with token-weighted voting.

Dear Humanode community members and tech enthusiasts, as July begins, we're excited to share the latest progress and achievements from Humanode over the past two weeks.
Behind the scenes, the dev team is tirelessly working on various development fronts. They are diligently updating Humanode's blockchain with the latest Substrate updates and have begun transitioning to Polkadot SDK v1.0. Also, they've shipped an internal testnet 6 update with the 119 runtime update, which fixes security issues and the Grandpa RPC-related endpoints.
As you know, Humanode encountered a finality stall in blockchain operations. However, the issue was swiftly resolved, and the chain is now back to normal. This week our devs shared an analysis. Tests confirmed a root cause. We contacted the Parity team, they admitted that it is a complex issue. It would be nice to find out how and why Grandpa is voting this way, maybe it reveals the bug or not.
In an exciting new partnership, we joined forces with StableUnit, the ultimate stablecoin that automatically distributes diverse revenue streams from capital-efficient DeFi assets to stablecoin holders. StableUnit will integrate Humanode BotBasher for Sybil resistance in its Discord and Zealy campaigns, strengthening security and authenticity.

Dear Readers of 2067 -the equilibrium-
The author of 2067 -the equilibrium-, Shannon Higgins of the Humanode Media Team will be traveling during the month of July to meet up with other team members to go work on solidifying some of the upcoming releases and strategy. Thus, unfortunately, Chapter 5 of 2067 -the equilibrium- The Book of Aki, will be on hold until August.
As a sneak peak, so far the book has introduced the slums, life on the conglomerate side, the farming districts, and the unoccupied wilderness and ruined cities of Japan in 2067. The Book of Aki will be taking you into District 12, the center of technology and the ongoing hidden battle between the Community and the Conglomerates. Aki and her team will be faced with her nemesis, who this time, seems to have the backing of an Awakened AI who was supposed to remain neutral based on the treaty between the Awakened AIs and mankind.

While everyone is making fun of Polkadot spending 30M+ on marketing, we at Humanode came up with suggestions to fix token-based governance that leads to financial decisions posing risk to a decentralised organisation managing treasury.
Disclosure: Humanode is not a Parachain, but we extensively use Polkadot SDK to build our own L1.
What's happening now with Polkadot can happen to any chain with PoS and decentralized governance when token = vote.
Large amounts of tokens are concentrated in the hands of few, and it will always be so since money is not decentralized.
What makes things even worse? Only few are actively participating in onchain voting. This led to crazy inefficiencies of spending the treasury budget.
And here is what Polkadot can do now using cryptobiometric tech:
If each validator does not only have stake, but also cryptobiometrically verifies as a unique human behind the node, tens of millions could be saved by:
1) Creating a one node - one vote veto mechanism;
2) Splitting governance 50/50, where 50% is based on one token - one vote and 50% on one human = one node - one vote;

TL;DR
Greetings, tech geeks and enthusiasts! We’re excited to bring you the latest Humanode updates from the last two weeks.
First and foremost, the WeHMND/WETH LP Biostaking program has officially launched, offering participants the chance to earn rewards over the next 6 months. By staking your LP tokens, you can immediately start receiving benefits, with expected yields ranging from 100% to 1000% APR. This is calculated using a non-linear quadratic formula, ensuring a balanced distribution of rewards across different liquidity sizes. This staking program runs from June 14th, 2024, to December 12th, 2024. To participate, ensure your EVM address is biomapped for the 1 Person = 1 EVM Account. For detailed instructions, refer to the Biodefi Guide and stake your tokens via the Humanode Biostaker.
On the development front, the team is advancing the integration of BotBasher with Telegram. The prototype is nearly finalized, and recent discussions and tests have refined the system. The next version is approaching its pre-final iteration. Additionally, the team is improving the integration with FaceTec, Humanode’s primary biometric provider. This upgrade includes new authorization and enrollment flows, enhancing user experience by providing clear error messages during biometric verification. BotBasher’s user experience is also being upgraded. A new feature will display users’ Discord account details (username and avatar) during the biometric authorization process, ensuring they are linking the correct account.
In publications, the Humanode team has released a comprehensive report simplifying the complexities of blockchain governance. For developers, Dimitry Lavernov shares valuable insights on building with the Polkadot SDK, making the process more approachable.
The 4th chapter of the Humanode-inspired dystopian novel “2067 — The Equilibrium,” written by Shannon Higgins, has been updated. In this chapter, Shogo faces his past while navigating his future. The novel explores the sacrifices and struggles of civilization, emphasizing the unseen efforts behind societal changes. Last week, FireSide chat took place on Humanode Radio on Discord, offering the community an opportunity to engage with the team, explore updates, and join stimulating discussions. Join the team for future events.
Finally, the team announced the winners of the Humanode Short Story Contest. SilverSkye claimed first place with “Never Letting Go: A Vortex Love Story,” a unique narrative exploring Vortex in a way we hadn’t imagined. Second place goes to Fed0798 for “The Ancient City,” a story highlighting governance struggles and community growth. 🔺 Finality incident analysis
This month, we faced a finality stall, which was quickly resolved, and the chain is back to normal. Our incident analysis confirmed the root cause. The node responsible for the primary slot (A1) took unusually long to distribute its block. Consequently, the chain continued with the block produced by the secondary slot node (B1), which produced two more blocks (B2, B3). Nodes began voting to finalize B1 on the fork (B1, B2, B3). Meanwhile, A1 continued producing blocks on the best chain (A1, A2, A3, etc.), leading to a chain reorganization. Finalization on B1 remained in progress but couldn't be finished since B1 was not part of the best chain. The Parity team acknowledged the complexity of this issue.
Since then, we have improved our internal alert systems to promptly respond to potential finalization lags. The code related to Grandpa logic has been deeply studied, and we issued a fix for the Grandpa RPC endpoint in mainnet 119 runtime.
Last week, we started experiencing frequent finalization stops again, prompting the creation of a tracking issue, Humanode Issue #1104, to actively track all occurrences. The Parity team has actively engaged in resolving the problem, and our research has been instrumental, in leading to a proposed fix from their side. The regression test, which checks the logic for block finalization after chain reorganization, was used to validate the fix. The pull request containing the fix and our test was merged: Polkadot SDK PR #5153.
However, the fix was not rolled out immediately due to potential unknown impacts on certain modules. It was decided to first reproduce the problem and then observe network behavior with the fix. Last week, we successfully reproduced the block finalization stop within the dev environment.
According to our plan, if the fix shows specific results in the dev environment without any side effects, we will promptly roll it out to the mainnet.
🔺Gossip fix
Additionally, this week, we rolled back an update to improve the state of gossip. For more detailed information, visit the Humanode GitHub.
🔺 Exploring CVM attestation
We've collaborated with the Rustwasm team to address some Web WASM/Rust infrastructure issues. Stay tuned for the new version of the wasm-bindgen crate, which will include fixes for API generation and the async fn bindgen definitions.
🔺 Introducing a new flow for the web app
We continued integrating the new flow for the web app, including a transition to a new authorization signature format and an improved error display format for users, providing detailed text on why the error occurred.
🔺 Front-end updates
We have updated the active validators counter on the mainnet landing.
Supra, a leading provider of real-time data feeds and blockchain interoperability, has launched its oracle price feeds on the Humanode chain. This integration enhances dApp functionality on Humanode with reliable off-chain and cross-chain data from 85 blockchains.
Supra oracle price feeds will improve DeFi apps on Humanode by providing accurate asset prices and exchange rates as well as allowing decentralized lending, borrowing, and other Web3 applications.
Apart from that, Humanode will develop a cross-chain Biomapper using Supra, allowing users to pay fees from other blockchains and L2 solutions without holding HMND or buying from CEXs.

🚨Important Update for the Human Nodes 🚨

We recently encountered two incidents related to finality stalls (an occurrence when the consensus process fails to decide on the final state of the block within a specified period). As a quick response, we have implemented a workaround that is now deployed. Rest assured, devs are actively working on a more comprehensive fix, which we will ship after thorough testing.
🔑 Key Details about the issue:
The cause of the issue seems to be that with our network growing to over 1,000 validators (yes we have crossed the 1K nodes landmark), we are pushing the limits of our core consensus and gossip algorithms. This has caused us to encounter rarely visited code paths that are typically dormant. While Kusama and Polkadot, with whom we share our codebase have not seen these issues, we are committed to resolving this for the Humanode.
👉What you need to do:
Update your node. If you are running the node using Humanode Launcher, go to Settings and Click on Check for Peer Updates.
We’ll be closely monitoring the rollout via https://telemetry.humanode.io/ and you are welcome to follow along as well. The target version is f5bccf0d13193e070aeef1472a2a4726e836cd93
Note that this update will delay the finality target for 5 blocks behind the best block which is expected so no need to worry. Please adjust monitoring and your dApp settings accordingly.

🔺 Finality Incident Analysis
The voting of nodes to finalize a block in Humanode occurs two steps back when producing the next block (for instance, block #5 finalizes when block #7 is created). And for block production, there are two slots (we produce blocks every approx. 6 seconds): primary and secondary.
A week ago, we faced a finality stall. The issue was quickly resolved, and the chain is back to normal. This week, we conducted a thorough incident analysis. Tests confirmed a root cause. An issue arose where the node responsible for the primary slot (A1) took an unusually long time to produce its block. Consequently, the chain continues on the block produced by the node responsible for the secondary slot (B1), which already managed to produce two blocks (B2, B3). Nodes then began the voting process for finalizing B1 on the fork (B1, B2, B3). And A1 was announced and continued to produce blocks on the best chain (A1, A2, A3, etc), leading to a chain reorganization. 🔺 Incident Response and Finality Restoration
We faced a finality stall last week. The issue has been quickly resolved and the chain is back to normal. The preliminary investigation points to a known bug in the current Substrate version we are using.
🔺 Biometric Provider Upgrade
We're upgrading our integration with FaceTec, Humanode’s main biometric provider. This includes improvements to the web app, a new API, and a better flow. Error handling will now occur within the application itself. The new processes will provide specific error messages, improving user experience.
🔺 BotBasher UX Update
A new feature is coming to BotBasher's biometric authorization. Soon users will see their Discord account details (username and avatar) during authorization to ensure they're authenticating the correct account.

Our team is progressing with the integration of BotBasher with Telegram. The initial scheme is nearly complete, with all components harmonized into a cohesive system from an architectural standpoint. Last week, we discussed implementation details and refined the scheme, testing scenarios with up to 2 million users. The next version will be pre-final.
🔺Blockchain Progress
