The Sich Riflemen Halych-Bukovyna Kurin were one of the first regular military units of the Ukrainian People's Army. It was formed from Ukrainian soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian army (hence the uniform), the local population, and former commanders of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen in Austria-Hungary.
A Hutsul-tile stove inside Ludwik Hirsch’s summer house in the Carpathian village of Pistyń / Пістинь. The photograph dates from 1930, colorized via MyHeritage.
Ludwik Hirsch (1860-1952), a distant uncle of mine, was a High Counselor of the Treasury in Lwów / Lviv. Ludwik and his wife spent winters in Lwów and summers in their house in Pistyń. The house was decorated in the Hutsul style as Ludwik collected their handicrafts. His collection was so grand that Dr. Apolinary Tarnawski sent the patients he was treating in his Kosów / Kosiv sanatorium to Ludwik’s house to see the authentic Hutsul crafts. Famous people, such as writer Ferdynand Ossendowski, painter Kazimierz Sichulski, and actress Hanka Ordonówna, also visited the Pistyń house.

THE GODMOTHER OF MODERN ROMANIA. No woman's actions in the entire history of Romania ever had more importance than those of Queen Marie (1875-1938). She is to be credited greater than any other human alone for Romania gaining Transylvania as part of its teritorry, as it was her diplomatic skill, determination, power of persuasion and love for her country that has tilted the balance in favor of Romania during the Treaty of Paris and Trianon, when the political games played by world powers and political diplomats carved and redraw the map of Europe to almost exactly what it is today. Queen Marie was a powerful figure who took on her role spectacularly surpasing her husband the King in popularity amongst citizens and even soldiers. She was traveling along with the Romanian Army servingas a nurse and support. She was immensely respected and dubbed "Mother Of The Wounded" or "Soldier Queen". She was born into British royalty, as Princess of Edinburgh, grandaughter of both Queen Victoria and Czar Alexander II. Her parents were Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh and Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia. Because of her merits the Romanian nation has a solid cult for her, rejuvenated after the communist era. Statues of her stand in many important cities such as Bucharest, Oradea, Giurgiu or Alba Iulia. The public photos portrayed her as a very statuesque royalty looking like a silent movie era star usually, dressed in either Byzantine regalia or Romanian rural fashion, set in a glamorous Art Deco room or a country cottage.

This motti provided the finns with spoils of war like 30 anti-tank guns, 32 field cannons and 20 tanks, among others.
Motti is Finnish military slang for a totally encircled enemy unit. Literally meaning the formation of an isolated block or "motti", but in effect meaning an entrapment or envelopment.
Can be referred to as a cubic meter of firewood, a relatively small area in which an encircled enemy could be "cut down" like trees. A motti in military tactics therefore means the formation of "bite sized" enemy units which are easier to contain and deal with.
A perfect tactic against the invading soviets as they were forced to stay along roads, due to the thick forest and numerous lakes. Leaving them a vulnerable target for the finns.

🇺🇸 American President Bill Clinton, 🇷🇺 Russian President Boris Yeltsin, 🇺🇦 Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma sign the Budapest Memorandum on December 5, 1994 @facethenation
❓ Well, so what does it mean?
At the end of the Cold War, 💪 the third largest nuclear power on earth was not Britain, France or China. It was Ukraine. Only Russia and the US had more weapons.
Ukraine demanded that, in exchange for nuclear disarmament, it would need ironclad security guarantees. That was the heart of the agreement signed in Budapest in 1994 by Russia, Ukraine and the US.
Budapest Memorandum promised that none of the nations would use force or threats against Ukraine and all would respect its sovereignty and existing borders 🙏🕊.
In May 1996, Ukraine saw the last of its nuclear arms transported to Russia.
🤯 After Russian troops invaded Crimea in early 2014 and stepped up a proxy war in eastern Ukraine, Russian government dismissed the Budapest accord as null and void.
