Investing and writing are very similar:
In the beginning, you are a nobody with nothing to lose: you don't mind being completely wrong, you go high-risk high-reward, you keep coming up with bold takes and provocative theses, you know that's the only path to stand out anyway.
Then, as you accumulate more financial and social capital, you are afraid of losing your comfortable lifestyle, you don't want to disappoint people who rely on you, you also soften your writing, you dodge topics that might alienate your audience or offend mentors you admire, you move more cautiously, you lose your edge, you are not failing, but you are not soaring either.
Finally, you wake up, you remember the mindset that took you from nothing to something, you remember the thrill of your early gambles, you realize that being prudent is actually very expensive in time and in life, you understand that moving forward, even when you are wrong, is cheaper than standing still, you retrieve your beginner's mindset, you remember how it felt like to wake up in the morning and be truly excited about something, you cultivate enough mental strength to not feel exhausted by the heavy expectations of others, you relearn how to have fun writing and building your own ambitious vision.
Maintaining ethics in disagreements is a great sign of high character.
