France Training Session And Press Conference - UEFA Nations League 2025 Semi-final Photo by Pau Barrena - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images Bayern Munich could be trying to bolster its backline… Bayern, Real, Barca vying for Konaté (Madrid Universal) In a surprising turn of events, Bayern Munich could be joining Real Madrid and FC Barcelona in a pursuit of Liverpool FC defender Ibrahima Konaté:At this point, it is well-established that Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is one of the players on Real Madrid’s radar. The Spanish giants were initially planning to sign him next year when his contract expires but are not ruling out a move this summer.Liverpool, meanwhile, have slapped a €50 million price tag on Konate, with renewal talks stalling. However, Real Madrid would only consider a transfer for around half that amount, approximately €25 million. Now, according to Caught Offside (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Real Madrid are not alone in the race to sign Konate as both Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also interested in the Liverpool ace. However, like Los Blancos, both Barça and Bayern consider the €50 million valuation too high for a player entering the final year of his contract. At the same time, despite renewal negotiations stalling, Liverpool are also actively trying to keep Konate and has already offered him a new contract extension. Konate has not yet agreed to renew with Liverpool, and it has been suggested that he currently has no intention of staying. For now, all signs point to a future at Real Madrid, with the player said to be keen on the switch. But Real Madrid’s reluctance to offer more than €25 million for the 26-year-old defender and the entry of clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich into the picture may shake things up.Gyökeres finally headed to London (Fabrizio Romano)After a lot of talk and some roadblocks, Viktor Gyökeres is finally headed to London to sign with Arsenal FC: EXCLUSIVE: Viktor Gyökeres and his agent Hasan Cetinkaya on their way to London now! ❤️

Gyökeres, set for Arsenal medical as he only wanted to join them.

FC Salzburg v Real Madrid CF: Group H - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Jonathan Moscrop/Getty Images No problems... Former Bayern Munich left-back Frans Krätzig made the move to RedBull Salzburg earlier this summer and became one of the latest academy prospects unable to breakthrough in Bavaria. If you ask Krätzig, though, it had less to do with a lack of opportunity than it did with the senior team having a deep and talented roster. “During my time at the club, I had the feeling that a lot of attention was paid to the academy players. Otherwise, something like my participation in the Asia tour back then wouldn’t have happened. Of course, it’s nice when young players get chances. But Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it’s not that easy to reach the top,” Krätzig told Spox journalist Nino Tuit (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Krätzig is not wrong — Bayern Munich is not an easy place to breakthrough, mostly due to the incredible veteran players on the roster. However, it would be nice if the club could plan better to allow at least some of the academy players to get a chance to prove themselves at. With a move for Hugo Ekitiké getting close, the reality is that Bayern Munich is likely going to get Luis Diaz…whether fans like it or not. Bayern Munich has reportedly also exited talks with VfB Stuttgart to focus on a deal for Diaz. It might also just be time for Bayern Munich to rip off the band-aid and sell Kim Min-jae, João Palhinha, and Sacha Boey. Finally, we have a note Bayer Leverkusen’s CEO and his recent slam on Bayern. Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern München: Quarter Final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images On he goes…. As anticipated, Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller is continuing on in his career and will not retire. Muller addressed the rumors with ZDF (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I still have the desire to play football and have therefore decided to continue. I will continue to be a footballer. I love the football stage and the pressure to perform. As long as my body can handle it, I want to take advantage of the opportunity,” Müller said. “Even though I’ll no longer be in Europe or playing for the Champions League – I’m starting to get excited. I’m aware that when you leave FC Bayern, the conditions are different, but I’m looking forward to that, too.”As far as a move to MLS goes, Müller did not deny the mutual interest. “Of course I’ve been thinking about these topics and thinking outside the box. The MLS is certainly an interesting league – especially with the World Cup in America next year,” said Müller. So much is going on in the land of Bayern Munich these days....Thomas Müller looks like he is headed to LAFC, but there could be bigger issues than that loss of personnel in Bavaria. There could be a disconnect in Bayern Munich’s office between the executives, the supervisory board, and the coaches, while VfB Stuttgart could be just as wacky as Bayern Munich these days. FC Bayern Muenchen Unveils Newly Signed Head Coach Vincent Kompany Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images Ah...the weekend is here. A pretty consistent theme of late has been the potential of a disconnect within the Bayern Munich organization. In various pursuits, it is hard to figure out exactly who is aligned with whom and who is oblivious to what is going on. At various points, everyone from the coaching staff up to the supervisory board has been involved in pursuits this summer. Is that too many cooks in the kitchen? Maybe...but before you think this is going to turn into a gripe session, Let’s explore what is going on per Tz journalists Mano Bonke, Philipp Kessler, and Hanna Raif (via @iMiaSanMia): The distribution of tasks at Bayern in the Luis Díaz deal is clear. Max Eberl is maintaining contact with the player’s agent, Luis Miguel Pinho - while CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen is speaking to the Liverpool board. Bayern are confident that Liverpool will have to sell after spending €310m so far this summerBayern are well aware that, given Diaz’s age, he doesn’t have a big resale value – but the club is still completely sold on the signing. They know they’re getting a proven Premier League player with goal threat and the right mentality.Interestingly, this appears to be a two-man show that does not feature sporting director Christoph Freund or supervisory board members Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Some would say that is odd, others would say it is a rarity, but it does appear that Bayern Munich is attempting to keep the pursuit streamlined. And yes, this does not mean that there is not a disconnect within the group, but is does show that there might be defined roles for who will get involved — and when — during a transfer. The good news for Bayern Munich is that it is the only known club bidding on Diaz — as stated by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta. “It’s true that I liked Luis Díaz, a very complete player, but due to his contract situation with Liverpool, it was complicated — although I appreciate the player who always wanted to join us,” said Laporta. Now, Bayern Munich is all alone in the driver’s seat and — seemingly — has the right players making the calls. Is it perfect? No...but it just have to be good enough for this summer. After that, everyone can sort out what role they hold in the transfer game at Bayern Munich. Bavarian Podcast Works — Flagship Show: Season 7, Episode 62Bayern Munich is working on hard a few deals, but could also be working through issues internally. Song(s) of the Week: A few from Ozzy OsbourneAs a member of Black Sabbath and as a solo act, Ozzy was an icon in every way. While some generations know him for his music (or biting the heads off of flying creatures), others remember him from his reality TV show, The Osbournes where he was just a mega-star guy dealing with real dad and husband things. I featured (probably my favorite Ozzy song) “No More Tears” back in April, but with the passing of Osbourne, I wanted to highlight a few different Ozzy-related songs, including “Mr.Crowley” — which prompted me to give the nickname to a close friend: How about “Crazy Train”? If you have not heard it in a while, it is always good for a listen: And...”Iron Man” because...why not?:Oh...and without addressing much of the person and more of the persona (I have not Googled anything he’s done in years, but by osmosis I know there was some bad stuff — there always is), famed wrestler and 80s icon Hulk…

FC Bayern München v Borussia Mönchengladbach - Bundesliga this guy. | Photo by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Getty Images And he basically beats around the bush. The need of the hour at Bayern Munich has always been money. Even following seasons when the club was neck deep in trophies, along with the income, comes the expenditures they are bound to make to stay competitive. In that order of business, a lot of expensive transfers happen. In recent years, the club has also failed to make the most of its departing players, often letting them leave on a free. Inevitably, they are only able to make big purchases like that of Harry Kane once in a while, and when the situation demands another big buy, they are unable to shell out the cash. However, the club continues to emphasize that they are financially in a good place. Per Tz and @iMiaSanMia, CFO Michael Diederich spoke about the club’s financial situation, and assured that they are comfortable. “I know what’s going on with our fixed deposit account – and I assure you: Even though it’s been more full at times, we can still sleep well. As a club, we’re healthy because we’ve always maintained a balance. I’m not worried. Quite the opposite,” he said, assuring that things were alright. “Nevertheless, we shouldn’t make bad decisions because we feel like we’re in a comfort zone. The money supply isn’t endless, even at FC Bayern. Certain framework conditions must be observed to maintain financial flexibility and independence,” he further said, stressing on the need to be careful and not overspend.Last year, it was reported by Bild journalists Tobi Altschäffl and Christian Falk (via @iMiaSanMia) that the supervisory board had informed Max Eberl that the wage bill should be reduced by up to 20% by 2025. Diederich was asked about the same.“I don’t comment on percentages, but at FC Bayern, the following has always been true: The goal must be to achieve the sporting goals with an adjusted salary structure,” he said.“Also, considering what’s currently happening in the market. Because everything we decide today will have repercussions for several years,” he declared.

FC Bayern München Celebrates Its 125th Anniversary Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images Trust the...process? From last summer’s head coaching search to this summer’s hunt for a left winger, Bayern Munich has appeared to strike out on its first choices. Former CEO Oliver Kahn explained that the revolving door at Säbener Straße hasn’t helped.“Many coaches have come and gone,” Kahn said in remarks captured by Sky Sport DE (via @iMiaSanMia). “As a result, the philosophies and ideas have changed time and time again, as has the squad. It always feels like a constant shake-up. That naturally creates a kind of unrest. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m also self-critical enough. During my time, there was this very issue of continuity in all areas, I would have liked to have done things better. But that’s something many players and coaches say: ‘I have to think about it very carefully’.”Kahn himself was part of the last round of shakeups, having been sacked at the end of the 2022/23 season, during which the club sacked then-head coach Julian Nagelsmann and installed Thomas Tuchel — who himself lasted about a calendar year before his separation from Bayern was announced. The present shakeup is seeing players who have only recently joined, such as João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Kim Min-jae, linked with a move away, while the Bavarians struck out on Florian Wirtz and subsequently Bradley Barcola and Nico Williams. The summer transfer window strategy seems to be coalescing now around Liverpool’s Luis Díaz and VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade. But the Bavarians would surely love to have their business concluded earlier next time.

Flamengo - Bayern Munich Photo by Sven Hoppe/picture alliance via Getty Images The question is...is it as successful as the club needsit to be? The critique of Bayern Munich’s youth system has magnified over the past year. Though the likes of Jamal Musiala, Josip Stanišić and Aleksandar Pavlović have made their way from the youth teams to the senior team in recent years, many more players have left, deciding their careers would be better off elsewhere. In truth, the Bayern Campus has been struggling over the years. One example of these struggles was the Bavarians’ refusal to hire a loan manager. Can you believe Bayern did not have a loan manager until 2023? The club would send players on loan, leave the academy coaches to take time out of their busy days to choose which of the dozens of loan players to contact every now and then, and then usually leave the loan players to feel completely disconnected from the club? Loaning a player out before 2023 felt like the death sentence of their time at Bayern.Fortunately, sporting director Christoph Freund’s arrival in 2023 saw him immediately look to restructure campus and one of his first moves was, thankfully, to immediately hire a loan manager in Richard Kitzbichler. Several other structural changes followed, too. But how much worth can one put in these structural changes without any outward proof of them working well? There has been a lot of frustration at head coach Vincent Kompany’s reluctance to place faith in any of the young players. And Sport Bild reporter Tobi Altschäffl claims, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, that some of that frustration comes from the Campus itself:There’s a lot of frustration at the FC Bayern Campus due to the lack of integration of youth talents into the first team. Despite the fact there are around 40 international youth players in the academy born between 2006 and 2009, there has not been enough first-team integration recently. U19 players only had a combined 53 minutes of game time with the first team last season. That should change from next season. However, Freund puts a different spin on the situation.“At the Club World Cup in the USA, we deliberately gave many talented players the opportunity to spend a longer period with the first team. Lennart Karl, Adam Aznou, Leon Klanac, Cassiano Kiala, Jonah Kusi-Asare, and David Santos Daiber, as well as Wisdom Mike, will continue to train regularly with the pros. We have big confidence in these young players: Everyone has the chance to make their own way,” said Freund. “The door is open—that also applies to other talented players. Almost 50% of our youth players become professionals – it means that FC Bayern’s ability to promote talent into professional football is very good, both in Germany and internationally.”Does Freund have a point? One can argue he is right about Bayern’s successful integration of young players into professionals, but little of that happens in Munich. Perhaps the club needs to aim for more.

FC Bayern München v 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 - Bundesliga Paul Wanner of 1.FC Heidenheim looks on during the Bundesliga match between FC Bayern München and 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 at Allianz Arena on December 7, 2024 in Munich, Germany. | Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Is Paul Wanner ready to step into the boots of the injured Jamal Musiala? Bayern Munich academy prospect, Paul Wanner, has been heavily linked with a loan move and even a potential transfer away from Die Roten this summer, but despite interest from multiple clubs, the young German talent looks set to stay put, for the moment. After a meeting between Max Eberl, Bayern’s chief sports officer, and Roland Virkus, Gladbach sporting director, to discuss a loan move for Wanner, Bayern appears to be balking. The reason? The void left after Jamal Musiala’s horrific injury, as both players operate in the same position. According to Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern are however willing to change their mind if a replacement is signed for the position. Max Eberl and Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus held a meeting at Tegernsee, where Gladbach are holding a training camp, to discuss a potential loan deal for Paul Wanner. As of now, Bayern are unwilling to let Wanner go after Musiala’s injury, but as soon as a player is signed for the position, the club will change its stance. Wanner’s camp is pushing for a move. Stuttgart, Bremen and PSV are also interestedOpinionPersonally, I would love to see Wanner get the chance to step into the position. After all, hasn’t Bayern president, Herbert Heiner, been urging the club to look towards their academy more? The statement, “but as soon as a player is signed for the position, the club will change its stance,” is surely a reference to Bayern’s attempt to sign Nick Woltemade, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder. However, since Bayern have cooled their interest in the six-foot-six attacker due to Stuttgart’s stubbornness, Wanner may just get his chance after all.

Manchester United FC v Brentford FC - Premier League Photo by Robbie Jay Barratt - AMA/Getty Images A young firecracker has found himself on the club’s transfer wishlist for the summer. The transfer season has brought up a new prospect for Bayern Munich’s winger hunt. Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho is the latest option being explored by Max Eberl and co as they look to fill the void of Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller.Bayern Munich in touch with Manchester UnitedPer a report by ESPN’s Rob Dawson (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich have enquired the potential sum to acquire Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United. The transfer window is currently seeing the Bavarians in hot pursuit of Luis Diaz. With Bayern willing to pay a hefty sum, the option of Garnacho also opens up should Man U be ready to let their academy product depart. The Garnacho story so far Manchester United v Everton - Premier League U18 Photo by John Peters/Manchester United via Getty Images A 17 year-old Garnacho playing for the United youth team. 21 year-old Garnacho was touted as the next big thing at United. He was brought in as a youth prospect from Atletico Madrid in 2020. A wide winger who is equally happy to run wide or cut inside, the kid has got a flair for the spectacular. The Argentine international thrives in carrying the ball through defences and receiving the ball in tight spaces. While his end product needs improvement, he remains a promising young talent. Why is Garnacho up for sale?If he is so good then it begs the question, why would Manchester United want to get rid of him? The answer to that lies off the pitch. In short, it is a fallout with United’s manager Ruben Amorim. Per a report by the Athletic (via the BBC), a major locker room drama had unfolded at United. Garnacho along with his brother are believed to have made public commentary on manager Ruben Amorim’s decisions in the Europa League finals.Amorim’s decision to use Garnacho as a late substitute drew public criticism from the player and his brother. That was reportedly the flashpoint of growing discomfort between the manager and the player. The manager later responded by telling Garnacho to look for a new club. As a result, United are now willing to let Garnacho go.A risk of a different kindWith that the case, should Bayern pursue a player who had a public fallout with his manager ? The player is still young enough to be moulded, however the risk of a new season of FC Hollywood remains.

Liverpool Pre-Season Training Photo by Nikki Dyer - LFC/Liverpool FC via Getty Images Come on boys, we haven’t got all day It looks like Bayern Munich might be nearing a deal with Liverpool FC for Luis Diaz, with the valuation between the two teams inching closer and closer. Florian Plettenberg reported (via @iMiaSanMia) that the Bavarians have submitted a new offer worth €67.5 million, which is not far from the reported cap of €75 million. However, two reports by Ben Jacobs (Give Me Sport) and James Pearce (Liverpool correspondent for The Athletic) said that any agreement (if any) that was made so far is purely verbal, and that Liverpool has yet to receive an improved offer from Bayern.Bayern fans will have to endure this much uncertainty with the season just around the corner. The Rekordmeister has lost three attackers over the offseason and the club has signed zero replacements. Unless Vincent Kompany is thinking of using the youth players (which seems unlikely given his track record), Bayern is walking into the new season with a depleted front line.

Spain v Germany: Quarter-Final - UEFA EURO 2024 Photo by Jürgen Fromme - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Kahn recently said that he feels there’s too much turnover too quickly at Bayern, causing too many squad upheavals. Is it considered sour grapes if the person doling them out very well might have a strong argument? That could be the case for former Bayern Munich goalkeeper and CEO Oliver Kahn, who is just over the two-year mark of having been given the axe by the German Rekordmeister. Shortly after clinching the 2022/23 Bundesliga title in late, dramatic fashion, both Kahn and then sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić were officially given the boot.Filling the shoes of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was always going to be a tall task, even for someone with as big of a personality and aura as Kahn, but even the former Germany and Bayern goalkeeper’s best efforts was not enough to convince the club’s supervisory board to keep him around. His tenure was supposed to have lasted longer than two years, but there were a multitude of reasons why the club he felt he was not the right fit along with Brazzo as the sporting director. In a recent interview with Sky Sport (via @Bild), Kahn was able to give his two cents with how he feels the club is currently run. It should come as no surprise that he had some less than favorable opinions on everything that has happened with the club, its front office, and the squad over the past couple of years. In particular, Kahn highlighted the managerial turnover there has been in a short period of time at the club as one of the pain points. “Many coaches have come and gone. As a result, the philosophies, the ideas have changed again and again, including the squad. It always feels like a constant squad upheaval,” he stressed. 1. FSV Mainz 05 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Matthias Hangst/Getty Images Kahn has a point. Within the past five years, Bayern has had four different managers in Hansi Flick, Julian Nagelsmann, Thomas Tuchel and Vincent Kompany. Not to mention, the Flick appointment came after the sacking of Nicko Kovač part way through the 2019/20 season. Optically, that could easily be perceived as instability, though Bayern has still managed to win 12 of the last 13 Bundesliga titles and a Champions League title within the past five years. However, the Kovač, Nagelsmann and Tuchel projects were promised to be more than they wound up being and taking that into consideration with the bevvy of other front office changes that have taken place in that same period of time are certainly cause for concern.Even now, there is increased pressure on Max Eberl, Christoph Freund, and Jan-Christian Dreesen to make the right signings this summer after losing both Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller as well as Jamal Musiala to a long-term injury layover. It has even been reported that this summer is a deciding factor for Eberl’s future at the club; will he do enough to save his job? Kahn is even able to keep a level head and also a level of objectivity. While he came in with his own initiatives and bold plans when he stepped in to the CEO role, there’s still things he felt he could have done differently. “I’m self-critical enough, don’t get me wrong, even during my time exactly this topic of continuity in all areas, I would have liked to have done better. But that’s something where many players then say, including coaches, by the way, I have to think about it very carefully,” he admitted.

FC Bayern München v FC St. Pauli 1910 - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Ito has missed a great deal of football for Bayern, but a late fall comeback is currently on the horizon. Since joining Bayern Munich from VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2024, Hiroki Ito has had incredibly unfortunate injury luck. He experienced his first setback during a preseason friendly last summer, having been forced to come off after just twenty minutes in the 1-1 draw with FC Düren in what was later confirmed to be a metatarsal fracture. That injury kept him out of action up until the middle of February for the German Rekordmeister, and only seven matches after making his return, he re-injured his metatarsal and has been out ever since. Ito’s misfortune is consistent with Bayern’s notoriously horrendous injury look, and both Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala are also on the long-term injury list, giving Vincent Kompany plenty of headaches. Thankfully, though, there’s some slightly refreshing news on the Ito front.Per information from kicker’s Frank Linkesch (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern is currently expecting an October return for Ito, as he would be the first of himself, Davies, or Musiala to make a return to action. Davies is expected to be back at some point in November, while Musiala is expected to return after that. Kim Min-jae has gone through a similar process with the amount of calf pain he wound up playing through for large portions of last season, so much to the point that a Korean doctor has recommended he take extended time off. In the past, Manuel Neuer had also suffered metatarsal reinjury after he came back a bit too soon from his initial injury. The days of the tensions between Pep Guardiola and Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt as a result of the Spaniard not always heeding the full advice of the team doctor in his personnel decisions are long gone, but precautions can never be taken too lightly. Kompany’s squad is already thin enough with the number of injuries there are in addition to having lost Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané this summer. Hopefully for Bayern and Ito, his recovery process continues to go according to plan, he’s able to make an October return, and go on to make far more than the eight appearances he made across all competitions last season.
