With his continued commitment to wanting to put his head down, work hard, and try to work his way into more consistent minutes a Bayern Munich, it’s difficult to not have at least some level of admiration for João Palhinha. After all, his move to Bayern was in the final hours of being wrapped up back in the summer of 2023, but it fell through at the last minute and he cut an entirely distraught figure on his way back to the Munich airport to head back to England. Nonetheless, Palhinha’s tenure with the Bundesliga champions ever since joining from Fulham last summer hasn’t quite gone according to plan. Including the FIFA Club World Cup, the Portuguese midfielder made a total of 25 appearances across all competitions, most of which were substitute appearances, and he failed to register either a goal or assist all season. Of course, the muscular injury he was dealing with from November to midway through January saw him miss a considerable number of matches for Bayern, which made it all the more difficult to try to work his way back into the team after getting fully fit again.Now, per information from Sky Sport’s Florian Plettenberg (via @iMiaSanMia), Palhinha’s camp is growing increasingly open to potentially moving away from Bayern this summer. Nothing is concrete at this stage as to whether he would definitely stay or leave, but there have been clubs that have shown interest in him, including Manchester United, who just recently agreed on terms to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.With the main focus for Bayern’s front office currently being both Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart and Luis Diaz from Liverpool, any potential move for Palhinha, if something does wind up happening, could likely take up until the end of next month, when the transfer window closes. The 20-year-old got a bit of action with the Bavarians at the Club World Cup, but fans have yet to see the best of the lad. Indeed, he has already drawn comparisons with his teammate Joshua Kimmich:“I’ve heard that a few times,” Bischof quipped (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “I have to say that Jo is an outstanding footballer. I look up to him, too. I also think our playing styles are similar, but we’re not completely alike.”Bischof, along with his peer Aleksandar Pavlović, is seen as the long-term partnership in the pivot of Bayern’s system. Although the 2025/26 season has a foreboding feel about it with Bayern failing to land a single attacker from their long shortlist, the prospect of young Bischof running the show is definitely something to look forward to.

The senior team may still be enjoying vacation, but preparations for the new season are already nearing their end at the Bayern Munich campus. Bayern’s U-23 team, Bayern II, wrapped up their list of friendlies with a 1-3 loss to Regionalliga Southwest club SG Sonnenhof Großaspach. Star transfer Benno Schmitz scored the only goal for the Bavarians. More news on the game can be found here.One player who is not there to support Bayern II anymore is Ritzy Hülsmann. The 21-year-old, rather famously standing at a giant 2 meters (0r 6’7”, in inches), was on loan in the Austrian second division club at SKN St. Pölten last year. This year, he is taking the step up to the first division of Austrian football...permanently. TSV Hartberg confirmed, via their official website, that Hülsmann signed a contract until 2027 at the club, with an option for another year. Bayern released their own announcement of the transfer, on their own website, where it was hinted that Hülsmann’s story at Bayern may not be done yet: “Ritzy has developed very well during his year in St. Pölten, both as a goalkeeper and as a person,” Campus director Jochen Sauer said. “He deserves the next step to a first-division club! We will monitor his future and his performances very closely.” Did Bayern perhaps attach a buy back clause? Sell on clause? This would not be the first time Bayern attached a clause to a player sale and did not include it in their department announcement.Given Bayern also loaned Maximilian Hennig to Hartberg, it is possible that Bayern are building a partnership with the Austrian club. Chairman Erich Korherr hinted at it in the announcement of Hülsmann’s signing: “We would like to thank the management at FC Bayern Munich, especially at the campus, for the excellent cooperation.” How far the cooperation extends is, for now, not known to the public.In the same article as the Hülsmann departure announcement, Bayern reported on their U-19 teams’ participation in the Bundesliga Cup. This pre-season tournament, consisting of 3 group stage matches, a semi-final and a final, hosted 9 teams in total. Unsurprisingly, Lennart Karl was the star man for the U-19s, but he could not prevent the team from falling to VfB Stuttgart in the final. Bayern’s website sums up the results:The U19s narrowly missed winning the Bundesliga Cup, which lasted several days in Schwäbisch Hall. After matches against SC Freiburg (1-1), Hertha BSC (0-0), and Eintracht Frankfurt (2-0), Gaydarov’s team advanced to the semifinals, where they defeated TSG Hoffenheim (1-0) on Sunday. The Munich team lost to VfB Stuttgart in the final. In addition to Lennart Karl, who scored two goals and provided two assists, Leonard Prescott also made a name for himself and was named the tournament’s best goalkeeper. Leonard Prescott is a 15-year-old U-16 Germany international who did not play a single minute all season for the U-17s and only made the bench a handful of times. It is likely that he will not retain his role as U-19 goalkeeper next season, but some fans may remember that he has already been called up to first team training by head coach Vincent Kompany. The club clearly has a lot of faith in him and he showed exactly why during the tournament. To excel against players three or four years older than you is quite a feat. The Premier League winners will not entertain any sale during this transfer window unless they are given a proposal that would be deemed ‘impossible to turn down’. Díaz is still viewed as an important player in Arne Slot’s squad.Make no mistake, this is Liverpool trying to assert control of the situation and shift the leverage from Bayern Munich’s side.It might work to a point, but Bayern Munich knows Liverpool probably needs to sell Diaz. According to a report from Abendzeitung journalist Maximilian Koch (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich’s supervisory board will meet on August 25th and the future of board member for sport Max Eberl could be a primary topic: On August 25, Bayern’s supervisory board will hold its quarterly meeting, just a few days before the closure of the transfer window. The meeting will either discuss potential last-minute transfers, which is never the desired scenario, or will assess the window. Either way, Max Eberl will be in the spotlight. Eberl must deliver results in the next six weeks; his future at the club depends on that. Finalizing deals for Nick Woltemade and Luis Díaz will be crucial for him. Uli Hoeneß, in particular, wants to see Woltemade at Bayern. After failing with two bids, Bayern are planning to submit a third, which is likely to exceed €60m all-in.As is always the case with major transfers of this magnitude, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen is also involved. Dreesen enjoys a very good reputation in the industry as a negotiating partner and his task is to strike balance between sporting reinforcements and economic stability. Jamal Musiala’s move to Bayern Munich from Chelsea FC was one of the best transfers the club has ever done. Completed for just a few hundred thousand euros, EA Sports’ new cover star now has a transfer value of €140 million. It certainly was beneficial for Bayern that Musiala made the move. But what was Musiala’s reason for leaving London?The Stuttgart-born superstar sat down with The Athletic, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, and explained his motives for his move to Bayern:“It wasn’t planned that we would leave England to go back to Germany. I had just finished my school exams and I was enjoying being at Chelsea. But then Bayern came in and, again, it just felt right to try something new. I knew how big Bayern were and, in the end, I just thought, ‘Why not? Take the chance — go for it, and let’s see if it works out’. I never try to think too much about what could go wrong in these moments. I’d much rather trust myself and go with the flow.”Musiala has been asked about this topic a lot. He has also mentioned that Brexit played a role in leaving Britain for Germany. In the end, however, it really does seem that Musiala’s ambition to try something new was one of the key reasons for the move.
