FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images Can Bayern Munich topple Benfica on Wednesday? City might really be in on Musiala, Wirtz for 2025 (Football Insider)There have been some whispers that Manchester City is eager to bring in both Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala and Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz during the summer. While it does seem extremely unlikely, City could be shedding enough high-priced talent from its roster to make things work financially: Man City are plotting deals to sign German superstar duo Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala, sources have told Football Insider. Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Pep Guardiola’s side are lining up the two big-name stars as potential replacements for Kevin de Bruyne.Football Insider revealed on 2 November that City are set to step up their efforts to sign a high-profile replacement for the midfielder, with the Bundesliga stars at the top of their list.Musiala and Wirtz, both 21 years old, have attracted interest in elite sides from across Europe including Real Madrid, and City are expected to push hard to convince them to move to England. The former is said to have been on their radar for a long time, and sources say they will do “everything they possibly can” to bring him to the Etihad. However, as Football Insider revealed in October, Bayern Munich remain the favourites to land a deal for Wirtz after his performances for Bayer Leverkusen. As even stated in the Football Insider story, it seems like Bayern Munich is far more likely to have both players next summer, but nothing is set in concrete for either Musiala or Wirtz. In any event, it seems like Musiala and Bayern Munich are getting very close to a deal. As for Wirtz, it is tough to say how his situation might play out, but it has been reported many times that Bayern Munich is likely the favorite. Hoeneß favorite to take over Leverkusen (@Plettigoal)Even with Bayer Leverkusen not being as good as it was last season, Xabi Alonso is still considered to be one of the top coaches in all of Europe, That said, there is expected to be a strong push from any major club with a job opening next summer to go after Alonso.Even clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester City have Alonso high on their respective list of candidates should their current coaches (Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola) actually step away. Should Alonso leave, VfB Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeneß is — allegedly — going to Bayer Leverkusen’s top target: ⚫️ As revealed two weeks ago, Sebastian #Hoeneß is one of the top candidates for Bayer 04 Leverkusen should Xabi #Alonso leave the club next summer!

Hoeneß has a release clause, as his agent and father, Dieter Hoeneß, already confirmed.

FBL-GER-CUP-MAINZ-BAYERN MUNICH Photo by KIRILL KUDRYAVTSEV/AFP via Getty Images In the big Pokal match, did two loanees on Mainz get to impress their parent club? Bayern Munich loanees saw a lot of cup action this week — including two of them facing their parent club on Wednesday against Bayern. See who survived to see another round of their cup competitions, who had to bow out, and what else the loanees were up to this week. FC Bayern MunichThere are nine players on loan from the first team.Germany – BundesligaThere are five players on loan in the German Bundesliga: Alexander Nübel, Franz Krätzig, Paul Wanner, and Armando Sieb.Alexander Nübel – VfB StuttgartNübel got a well-deserved break when he was on the bench for Stuttgart’s Pokal match against 2.Budesliga side 1.FC Kaiserslautern. Stuttgart won 2-1 to advance to advance to the round of 16.He was back in between the posts for their match at Leverkusen. He helped his parent club by holding the reigning champion to a shutout and forcing a draw. Nübel had five saves in the shutout.Franz Krätzig – VfB Stuttgart Krätzig stared against Kaiserslautern in the Pokal. He played 59 minutes and completed 90% of his passes, but could get a shot off, nor create a chance for his team to shoot. He helped on defense with a clearance and three recoveries. Krätzig was on the bench for the Bundesliga match against Leverkusen, but did not enter the match.Stuttgart will host Atalanta on Wednesday in Champions League action. They will also host Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.Paul Wanner – 1.FC HeidenheimWanner started Heidenheim’s Pokal match away to Hertha BSC on the bench. He came just one minute after former Bayern player and Loan Works alumni, Michael Cuissance, put Hertha up 2-0 in the 75th minute. His teammate, Stefan Schlimmer, scored in the 89th minute to make it nervy for the home team. Wanner thought that he had a late equalizer, deep into stoppage time, but it was taken away on a controversial call. Although there is no VAR available until later in the tournament, the officials deemed that the previous goal-scorer, Schlimmer, had fouled a Berlin player in the build up to the goal. This was the second time in two years that Wanner had a goal disallowed in that stadium — I was there last season when VAR disallowed a goal as he was a step offsides. Heidenheim fell 2-1 and crash out of this season’s Pokal.Heidenheim was back in league action on Saturday when they traveled even further north to face Holstein Kiel. Wanner started and played 85 minutes. He had one shot, which was on target, but saved. He also had a created chance and was credited with a big chance missed. Unfortunately, no one else was able to get on the board either and Heidenheim fell again — this time 1-0. Heidenheim will travel to Edinburgh to face Hearts in the Conference League on Thursday. After three straight matches away, they will return home to face Wolfsburg in league play on Sunday. Armando Sieb – 1. FSV Mainz 05Sieb started against his parent club when Mainz hosted Bayern in the Pokal on Wednesday. He had two shots — one on goal from well outside the box and one blocked from inside the box — created a shot opportunity for his teammates, and only misplayed two passes. As we know, these contributions were not enough to earn a result from Bayern.Sieb started on the bench for Mainz’ visit to Freiburg in league play on Sunday. He entered the scoreless match at halftime. He had three shots — two blocked and one that just missed wide right. He was unable to create any chances to shoot in his 20 touches. Mainz and Freiburg split the points in a scoreless draw. Gabriel Vidović– 1. FSV Mainz 05After getting very little playing time this season, Vidović also got the start against Bayern in the Pokal match. He was not able to contribute even as much as Sieb did. He only had 15 touches, no shot attempts, and only completed three of five passes. He was subbed out at halftime and watched his parent club win 4-0.Vidović was not on the matchday squad for the league match…

FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Could the Premier League upstarts swoop in and borrow a big talent currently not featuring at a richer club? Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel is struggling for minutes this season under Vincent Kompany, and that has not gone unnoticed around clubs in Europe hungry to add a dynamic attacker to their ranks.Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg reported on Monday that Premier League side Nottingham Forest, as well as Bundesliga club Werder Bremen, are monitoring Tel’s situation in Bavaria: Excl | #Forest are interested in FC Bayern’s Mathys #Tel and have already made contact ✔️However, the 19y/o winger currently still has no plans to leave Bayern on loan this winter. #Werder Bremen also have him on their radar, should Tel change his mind and signal a willingness to go out on loan, as was revealed last week.@SkySportDE Tel has appeared in just four of Bayern’s nine Bundesliga matches this season for a total of 114 minutes (via fbref). While the 19-year-old looks determined to make his breakthrough in Munich, his lack of playing time — and Bayern’s crowded attacking ranks, which currently boast Harry Kane up front and the likes of Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sané and Michael Olise on the wings — could change the outlook by the January transfer window.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s upcoming Champions League match with Benfica, along with a reaction to Bayern Munich drawing Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal? Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Mönchengladbach - DFB Cup: Round Two Photo by Christian Kaspar-Bartke/Getty Images The Eintracht Frankfurt speedster torched Bayern Munich this season... Bayern Munich could be one of the clubs vying for Eintracht Frankfurt attacker Omar Marmoush during the 2025 summer transfer window per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg. The Bavarians will not be alone, though. Liverpool FC is also allegedly in the mix to compete for the 25-year-old: FC Bayern definitely have Omar #Marmoush on their radar and are considering him for next summer, especially after his stellar performance in the 3-3 draw against Bayern. At this stage: no agreements or negotiations, but some initial, informal talks have taken place, and he continues to be monitored. Max Eberl is a fan of the 25y/o striker. 12 goals and 9 assists for #SGE already this season.Eintracht Frankfurt is asking for €50-60m. Liverpool also have serious interest, as reported. #LFCWhere would Marmoush fit in at Bayern Munich? A replacement for Harry Kane? A back-up to Kane? A winger? An attacking midfielder / second striker? At a relatively affordable €50 to €60 million, it might not matter. FC Bayern München v Grashoppers Zürich - Preseason Friendly Photo by Sebastian Widmann/Getty Images Goalie goals are fun, except when they are scored against you... Welcome to the FC Bayern Campus Round Up, where Bayern Munich’s U-17, U-19, and U-23 matches are recapped, line ups are provided and highlights to each match are hyperlinked on top of their respective score lines. Unfortunately, none of these matches can be viewed in full length without an FCBayernTV subscription. Without further ado, here is the round up:Bayern II (U-23s) 5-2 SV Wacker BurghausenBayern lineup: Schmitt - Manuba (75. Marušić), Dettoni, Breitkreuz, Brückner - Kern, Denk, Aseko (75. Rüger) - Della Rovere (66. Irankunda), Wagner (66. Unsöld), Demircan (88. Yildiz).Unused subs: Pavlešić – Scholl, Becker, Kusi-Asare.Injured players: Younes Aitamer, Benjamin Ballis, Moritz Mosandl, Jonathan Asp Jensen, Javier FernandezGoals: 0:1 Maljojoki (15.), 1:1 Demircan (20.), 2:1 Denk (35.), 3:1 Breitkreuz (40.), 3:2 Malinowski (50.), 4:2 Wagner (55.), 5:2 Irankunda (68.)The Rückrunde, or second half of the Regionalliga Bayern season, has now begun and Bayern did so in style. Despite the visitors’ opener through a goalkeeping mistake, the home side kept their cool and eventually managed to squeeze five past the opposition goalkeeper thanks to a rare Emirhan Demircan header, the usual biweekly Luca Denk goal, the biweekly Breitkreuz headed goal and a couple of goals in the second half from forwards Maximilian Wagner and Nestory Irankunda.Speaking of Irankunda, his case is a very interesting one. He has certainly not been bad for Bayern II, but for all his brilliant positive attributes, he also has a lot of weaknesses that have certainly been laid bare over the current season. His attacking movement outside of the box is uncertain, his linkup play very sloppy, his passing in general could use more precision and he needs to be more calm on the ball. These weaknesses saw him dropped last week and this week as well, but Irankunda has responded well by winning a penalty through his tenacity last week and scoring a smart goal on the counter this week. Sure, he was hardly lacking in either tenacity or pace in previous weeks but it would have been easy to sulk after making such a high profile move and being benched. He just needs to keep this up and the lacking areas of his game will improve over time. This result sees Bayern draw so very close to the top of the table. Both Bayreuth and 1. FC Schweinfurt, the two teams ahead of 3rd placed Bayern II, lost this weekend, meaning Bayern are two points behind Bayreuth with two games in hand and three points behind top of the table Schweinfurt with a game in hand. Bayern U-19 2-2 1859+1 MunichBayern lineup (with subs): Klanac – Dalpiaz (87. Schuhbauer), Puljić, Schäfer (90.+1 Paylan), Ofli – Nasrawe (87. Zöls), Mijatović, Richter (71. Eckl) – Scott (71. Wilson), Chavez, Mike (87. Hoffmann).Goals: 0:1 Plöttner (23.), 1:1 Mike (34.), 2:1 Schuhbauer (90.+3), Qela (90.+4)Injured players: Tim Binder, David Santos, Iwinosa Uhuns, Sadiki Chemwor, Noah Codjo-EvoraThis was a frustrating game for many reasons. The line up already produced a noticeable surprise, with center back Roko Mijatović slotting into midfield as usual starter Veis Yildiz was promoted to Bayern II. But Bayern still had the better of the match and arguably should have won it. However, the good play as undone by sloppy defending on set pieces, the source of the opponents’ two goals. Still, everything else paled to the nature of the 1859+1 equalizer. Bayern believed they had scored the winner when Maximilian Schuhbauer reacted well to tap in a goal with the clock reading 92:35 after two additional minutes were signaled. However, the referee allowed the game to keep going for nearly two more minutes, only blowing his whistle after the late equalizer from the guests. It was a phenomenal equalizer, with goalkeeper Milan Qela acting with all the confidence and know-how of a seasoned striker to head the ball past Bayern goalkeeper…

Holstein Kiel v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Right-back to where he belongs? Bayern Munich received some good news on the injury front when right-back Sacha Boey returned to team training. Boey, who was out with a meniscus injury, has progressed enough to get back into the mix, per the release from FCBayern.com: There was good news from Säbener Straße on Monday as Sacha Boey once again returned to team training. The 24-year-old defender suffered an injury to the meniscus in his left knee in September and has been out of action ever since. A return to team training is now the next step towards Boey’s comeback. When Boey is ready for game action, it should give Vincent Kompany a real right-back to put into the lineup instead of Konrad Laimer and Raphaël Guerreiro, who have dutifully manned the position since Boey and Josip Stanišić’s injuries.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s upcoming Champions League match with Benfica, along with a reaction to Bayern Munich drawing Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal? Training FC Bayern Munich Photo by Sven Hoppe/picture alliance via Getty Images Neuer and Ulreich may be in the final season of their Bayern Munich careers... It has been nearly a decade, at the time of writing, since 2015 and Sven Ulreich’s transfer from VFB Stuttgart to Bayern Munich. In that time, Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich have established a clear understanding that they would be first and second choice goalkeepers, respectively, setting in stone this arrangement. There was an attempt to change this arrangement in 2020, as Bayern signed then hottest young German goalkeeping talent Alexander Nübel from Schalke 04 while letting Ulreich leave for Hamburger SV.A year later, however, Nübel was sent away on loan and Ulreich returned, despite an unimpressive season in the 2. Bundesliga, starting yet another era of the Neuer and Ulreich duo at Bayern. Current Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer briefly also disrupted this duo, but he was quickly offloaded as well. Another attempt may be coming soon, though. BILD claims, via @iMiaSanMia, that 2025 may see another attempt to disrupt the goalkeeping hierarchy at Bayern:Just like with his most recent extension in November 2023, Sven Ulreich’s future depends on Manuel Neuer. If Neuer extends, Ulreich would also likely get another year. However, if Neuer retires in the summer, Bayern could completely renew the goalkeeping hierarchy and do without Ulreich. If Bayern decides to renew the hierarchy, the club better hope it goes better than the last two times they tried it, only for those attempts to fail and force the club to backpedal and re-establish the main goalkeeping duo at Bayern. Who knows? Perhaps Nübel, after so many years on loan, will finally be able to make a consequential change at Bayern. FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Irankunda has great plans at Bayern... The headline signing for the FC Bayern Campus this summer was Nestory Irankunda, who left Adelaide United for Bayern Munich in a deal that set the Bavarians back about €3 million. However, the tremendous talent and limitless potential that Irankunda displayed before the move made the transfer fee seem like a real bargain. He immediately joined first team training at Bayern and impressed in pre-season with the senior team before being sent back to the U-23s with Bayern II to gain more match practice.Considering this proximity with the first team, Irankunda hopes he will make the first team squad in a competitive match this season: “I’ll hopefully be on the bench at least – it’s gonna be a great achievement for me. I’m training with the first team every day, so I’m learning new things every day as well. So hopefully I get a chance soon. [I will do] just the same that I always do – go back, work hard, perform, try and get minutes. That’s about it. I enjoy the life there, it’s nice. It’s different to back home – all on my own so try to make the most of it.”He will need to keep working hard to reach his goal, however. At the time of writing, Nestory Irankunda has been dropped from the starting lineup of Bayern II’s last two Regionalliga Bayern games in the wake of some inconsistent performances. It is nothing to worry about, as all young players go through such phases, but it does indicate that the Australian wonderkid still has a ways to go to reach the level of the Bayern first team. It will take Irankunda maintaining his attitude of hard work and persistence to reach his goal this season.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s upcoming Champions League match with Benfica, along with a reaction to Bayern Munich drawing Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal? Hannover 96 - 1. FC Kaiserslautern Photo by Carmen Jaspersen/picture alliance via Getty Images It’s good to see Bayern’s loan players thriving. Lee Hyun-ju is moving up in the world of football. Brought to Bayern Munich from K League 1 team Pohang Steelers in 2022, it only took him 18 months to graduate from the U-23s in the Regionalliga Bayern to his first loan spell in the 2. Bundesliga with Wehen Wiesbaden. Lee was unable to help Wiesbaden avoid relegation, but his performances were impressive enough for Hannover 96 to bring him in, where he is now a regular starter for a team that is challenging for promotion to the Bundesliga and, at the time of writing, currently top of the 2. Bundesliga. All this did not escape the attention of the South Korean national team, who announced their senior squad for the November international break via their official twitter account. For the first time, Lee was included in the squad. He joins former Bayern youth player Jeong Wooyeong and current Bayern regular Kim Min-jae in the South Korea squad, forming a sizable contingent of current and ex-Bayern players. Who would have expected this kind of Bavarian development within the South Korean national team even just 5 years ago?All of this is richly deserved, though. If his impressive rise over the past few seasons is not enough to convince, his silky skills on the ball and superb technical ability should be enough to confirm his quality to anyone who watches him. Hopefully, Lee can even confirm his quality with his debut during the international break.
